So, how much did the Insurance give for my 172 you think then?

Renault Sport Clio 172
Returned and valued as standard.
2003
44k miles.
2 keepers including me.
FSH.
Paint work was VGC.
Mechancially very good and a quick one - not that they would know that.

So how much did I get...?

I thought this game would be amusing but it's s**t.

I got £4,250.

I was relativley happy with that. When I wanted to sell it a few months ago I wanted £4,250 for it so couldn't have really argued.

Their initial offer was £4,000 but because of the evidence I provided it was upped a little.

Tbh, from my calculations which were fair I averaged out all 172 adverts on PH and Trader for the same spec car, i.e. 2003 172 and the mean price was £4,200.

I thought they were a bit inflated and most were low £4k's and been for sale for ages.

I think £4,250 was very fair.

I think £3,850 was nothing short of miraculous for a ph1 172.

I'm still convinced there only cheap on CS, look on autotrader etc.

Yeah, CS prices seem to be very cheap.

Trader & PH were alot higher. Some of the 172's were up for £6k in my fact sheet.

The lowest price was £3.8k.

If you had seen mine you would have probably seen why.

I was the second owner, there was every single receipt (and i mean every receipt) for any parts ever bought for the car, totalling in excess of £6000

I even had the original sales receipt for £15,800 (iirc)

Not that hard to believe tbh

Yeah, tbf mine had alot of reciepts and original invoice to.

I don't think it had £6k spent on it though, it didn't break that much tbh.

But that's really good for you.

A service,cambelt and tyres/exhaust topped £1600....

  ITB'd MK1
Local specialist clio dealer that i do some work for had an 03 plate 172 in recently, I said probably worth £4800-5k, He put it up at £5995 and it sold in 10 days. CS definitely drives down the values

I got £3850 for my 2001 Phase 1 with 59k on it...
Oi thanks to who!

2700-3k? If you're lucky.
Pmsl!

I wish people would stop trying to value write offs on auto trader and pistonheads!
Yous are costing yourselves a fortune.

Your car just so you know is worth this....

Evaluator Edition: September 2009

.......Retail (£) Trade (£)

Basic 5300 ----4225
Mileage 265---- 265
Extras 0 --------0
Dealer 0 ---------0

Total 5565 to 4490

They should offer you the retail value of your car mate, so in the end you didn't get that good a deal and cost yourself 1k.

At the very least I would have accepted 5k depending on scratches, dents and general condition of the car

No, not really.

£4,200 was market value. Tops was £4,600.

I bought mine private and all sales comparisons were private too. I wasn't trying to screw them, just wanted fair value.

It cost me £4,200 this time last year.

Okay mate, you seem happy with it, it's a good reminder to folk when settling with insurance companies.

It's a good price tbh, my 172 with 32k on the clock IMO is only worth what I paid for it - 3700, in near mint condition. A big number of 172 and 182s seem to be very overpriced.

So because you think it's worth £3700 on pistonheads then you would accept that settlement if it was written off?

Oh my.

i'm with gally here ;)

i ran it through evaluator and assuming it is an 0303 plate retail is at £5565 and unless there was any reason to devalue it (ie body damage etc) we value all our vehicles at retail figure

Lols same price I must be using it right for a change!

No.. 3700 is roughly what i'd be happy to sell the car for, so it's what I would accept if it was written off. Unlike others, I wouldn't google a 'retail figure' which is a couple thousand higher and expect that just because some generic car website told me so.

Lols. I'm an assessor by the way, google is not what I use to value cars.

So you'd happily lose out on 2k just because that's what you'd be happy with.
