Aye...but by his own admission the extra 50bhp is unusable.

Sounds nice, looks like a professional set-up, but not for me.

£7,600 is halfway to a season racing a Caterham Academy car (which you keep at the end of it)...

^^^ I know, I know...pointless comment LOL

Thats not bad!

Throttle bodies and cams would cost 4.5k for 40bhp

For 7.6k I'd expect you could do a whole engine swap with a suitable gearbox to take the power 1.8 20v T / K20 vtec/ Megane turbo lump etc...

Approx power to weight of the above cars.

350bhp scooby (1400kg ish) = 350 / 1.4 = 250bhp/ton

217bhp stripped mk1 (900kg)= 217 / 0.9 = 241bhp/ton

262bhp steves mk2 (1000kg)= 262 / 1 = 262bhp/ton

I know reliability grip off the line and all the other things comfort etc. etc. but you cant argue with those figures.

I dont know anything about cost and driveability etc of a 350bhp scooby but it isnt going to be cheap and it will be high boost so less driveable.
Steves car is stripped though so to be fair a scoobie should be stripped.
I'd feel a lot safer with a 350hp scoobie than a 250hp 172 reliability and driveabilty wise.

I'd feel a lot better with a whole new engine you cna get a 1.8 vag engine all the bits for £6k incluidn stand alone ECU etc then you've got to get it fitted but still £2k should be reasonable then thats 280hp reliabily plus a 6 speed box designed for massive torque LSD is easy to get hold of and 350p is possible before it need series internal work. 450hp is possible with the right bits.

I think the new M3's are about 215bhp/ton so not really in the same league.

All of these are rough figures done off the top of my head so if they are wrong I apologise in advance.

well bb's 172 turbo is running 324bhp iirc with no difference in parts. its all down to mapping and boost. but then thats unuseable power on a front wheel drive so there you go...
i never knew there was no difference in our parts! im gonna book in for a remap the+turn up boost!!!!!!!! i was thinking 280bhp up frm 260 also thinking about an oil cooler and mybe water injection.il pop over when its done m1tch! another vid?steve

Andy said there is lots more power available but maybe at a cost of reliabilty so dont think its really worth it mate.... yours is plenty fast enough!!

steve, have you read this?

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=132518

especially BenRs comments.

If I was you I would go down to bbpt and have a word with them, get some reassurance. You have spent alot of cash with them you should be getting some seriously good customer service. Ask them about uprating the box looks like you could get it done for around 1k.

300bhp and an uprated box will give you a very serious car. Who wants to drive around in a jap barge anyway ;) you will still have a better power to weight stripped or not.
