Suspension + mods

Right guys,

I've stupidly just been to my bank and got a £3k loan. Mainly for my car mod's. Here they are so far...

Inlet manifold match @ GDI
ECU piggyback remap (SMT6) @ GDI
Silent de-cat but stock exhaust.

MK1 172 currently producing 182bhp and 170lb torque.

Your suggestions =

Looking for decent suspension but don't want to "waste" a grand on it. Although some of you may say it's not a waste, i'd prefer to spend more money on engine mod's. I've definately got to upgrade my brakes (discs and pads) soon as they are fecked. Definately considering a new cam package. If suggesting mod's please give your estimated bhp and lb torque.

many will say LEDA susspension as lets face it, they are one of the best or H&R etc, get some coilovers, k-tec have a few on offer, i believe there is a FK coilover group buy for £450 or something

H&R's can be had for around 650 ish... i have them on my cup, i highly recommend them, build quality is very good, and keeps the ride refined, can't go wrong

I want to spend no more than £450 on suspension. I don't want to race this car on a track. It's for road use only. Are the Fk's ride height adjustable etc...

Anyone got any opinions on cam's and other mod's?

Jon@2modified will do ya FK's for cheap. sub £450 I think, says he will beat any competitor. All round good coilovers.

john2modifed will do FK highsports for 445 delivered. k-tec wanted 15quid to deliver mine :S k-tec also seemed to be confused over two different types of Fk's i could have bought. (fitment wise) when FK themselves only list one. sounded suspiciously like bullsh1te to me!

Ok I have an idea for suspension now,

More engine/performance mod's please.

I have some ideas but would like to hear your guy's thoughts. Pretend it's your money ;) .

If its my money its 182 Leda coilover and 182 hubs. then DS 2500 pads.
And thats it forgte the engine . Decat if it anything.

I'd get the H&R coilovers, had a set and i cant fault them. You dont have to use the car on track to notice the drastic improvement and they are a very comfortable (better than OE IMO) ride even on poor tarmac. They be more than the £450 you want to spend on suspension but they really are worth it.

Agree with Loony. With the road conditions in this country you need a well damped setup to cope with a wide variety of road surfaces and driving situations (ie. a run down to the shops, a country lane blast etc.)

Dont skimp on your suspension investment for the sake of a few bhp.

I can afford the H&R's. Will there be noticable differences between the two packages? Which H&R set would you recommend (if theirs more than one setup).

If I can afford H&R's over FK's you think this is a must?

I personally would, the Fk's are better than the GAZ by a long way but the ride is more supple and forgiving on the H&R's. There is only one set/type of H&Rs available so no confusion on that front. As said if you shop around you should be able to find them for about £650.
