The Fatty's KTEC alternative induction setup that works just as well!

  2003 Clio 172
Something isn't right. Mine is fine all the way through the revs.

I know, I'm a bit sceptic myself but it really is that loud.

The car's completely stock otherwise.

We did a few recordings with my phone but obviously the quality is a bit poor and difficult to tell how loud it actually is.

/The old man

EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention but I did not find it quicker. If anything, slightly slower but then again, I had a friend in the car at the time.

Now after waiting two weeks I finally received the pipe and had to fit everything right away.

I went for a drive with a friend and after getting the engine up to temp and giving it a bit of throttle I thought it sounded quite nice until I gave it some more and was sure the filter had popped off!

Pulling up to redline in 3rd and 4th is almost unbearable.

I'm pretty sure I'll go back to the stock airbox with an aftermarket drop-in filter instead. We'll see tomorrow if the drive to and from work will be too embarrassing.

Note, I'm 23 and have messed about with cone filters on a few cars but none have been this loud with an annoying almost resonance-like noise close to redline.
are you sure your not just being a big girls blouse? :p

this setup is much louder than the stock airbox, most who fit it like myself, are actually happy of the raw, rough, 'bat out of hell' type sound :)

vids still required!

I did something similar back in January 2013, i thought everyone did/knew about this mod.

thats when I first did mine  I took one look a the ktec system and thought 'there no way i'm paying that for a bit of rubber'!

Highly likely.
:)

I had a cone filter on my last car, a Volvo 850 AWD and the only noise I got with that filter was some turbo whoosh.

I'm just surprised more haven't found it a bit too noisy, hell, I should have just bought a Vel Satis instead..

NA cars sound totally different to a turbo car with cone fitted.

NA cars tend to be a deep throaty roar sound.
Turbo cars are sound like a mad rushing/sucking air sound and usually like a flutter/chatter on upshifts.
My impreza sounded like a jet engine, but had to remove as it fucked drive up. Boosted 500rpm later etc. Had to stick box and panel on. Missed the sound though.

Just to confirm (and not wanting to piss on anyone's bonfire) my low down torque is back after putting back to standard. Do miss that sound though 😧

It might be worth noting my car has the 98 Ron map so maybe it doesn't adjust the fuelling for it as much as if it hasn't been played with??

Its probably just me and my luck with cars though.

For me, yes it was. I've put it back to standard and the power has come back. I didn't lose any power at the top end it was low down. Usually it feels really torquey low down the revs, the ik completely removed that and it felt like it was making a noise but not pulling no where near as hard.

Guessing the impreza wasnt mapped for the induction kit as mine ran fine
It wasn't no. And I didn't want to run risk of fitting it, mapping it and then finding it still doesn't run right and having to get it mapped again on normal box and filter.

Heard from few places that classic shape doesn't always respond well to induction kit. As well as being advised by the guy that was going to map it for me

Shame as it sounded amazing! [emoji106] miss that car [emoji20]

Aslong as its mapped with the relevant mods it's fine, ive owned three classics. It's when people start messing about with swapping bits and not getting it set up to cope.

My old focus 1.8 behaved exactly the same when I fitted an IK... Combined with my impreza experience I've strayed away from IKs, but im giving them one last try now... Lol

One and only type of IK I've used with success is a famous custom one made for mini cooper S by Dave F I think. It's an induction cone fitted into a reworked standard air box (with 2 air intakes instead of standard boxes 1) and it really made a nice difference with an incredible supercharged whine! I miss that car too.... Lol

Thanks for the feedback. I wish you had cleared down you tables first though as I think that was the issue. Could also be that your timing is different to mine I suppose?

You'd wish i'd done what now?!

Yeah maybe, my dephaser and belt was done 3 months ago at Clioturbo though so i'm certain it won't be out. Power is c**k on though.

I did mention it before! Its where you clear the trim tables so your car learns what to do with the air/fuel mixture faster. I suspect yours was getting it wrong to start off with and was under fueling or something like.

Just had mine delivered, going to be fixing it up soon, what do you mean by dlearing the tables? sorry for the dumb question

you can only do this if you have a tool to do it such as an rstuner vci, else you just have to drive around a lot for the ecu to 're-learn' its air/fuel ratios. I wouldn't worry about it unless you notice a power drop ;)

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
Can you do that with the standard VCI or do you need the user-mapping module that lets you play with the map?
with the RSTuner you have to reflash the whole ECU (at least the the only way I have found as of yet)...

A write ECU procedure may take up anywhere between 10 ~ 30 minutes to complete, take the necessary precautions to ensure the procedure will complete successfully.

NOTE:After each reprogramming ECU learning values such as, idle offset, fuel trim etc. are erased and set to their default values. Allow up to 10 drive cycles for the ECU to complete learning these values again. This learning behavior can cause unstable idle rpm after reprogramming.

I bloody love this IK setup, when I come near redlining in 3rd and 4th the car feels like it's going to shake to pieces, it's great!!!:up: For those who think it's a bit OTT for them, a good compromise is to drill a few holes in your standard airbox on the cold air side and fit a highflow panel filter, slightly more muted than the IK but retains the original setup..

Ended up sending mine back. Wasn't liking some of the feedback on here.

Will no doubt end up with this or something similar eventually but going to put the money towards this rs tuner dealy as hearing nothing but good things

Took it for a test drive, couldnt use the power all the time, but managed to give it some beans and it sounds good, not noticed any loss of power, but then again, I havent been able to properly use the power. Sounds good especially when you get it to about 3k/ 4k revs and its got a throatier roar. Sounds normal when cruising about, but shouts when you give it the revs. Will do more driving to see how it goes :)

  Clio 182
So far im loving it too... sounds really nice and throaty... it doesnt sound too loud when im sat inside, but when you are outside it is quite loud haha :)

I've fitted my bmc this morning. Not driven yet but I'm driving home to Wales tomorrow. So will leave my feedback on that.

Any suggestions as to where to put cold air feed? I may just have the end sat behind passenger headlight (Same spot as these IK fitted) as I read a thread with temp tests saying it's good, cool airflow there.... Don't really want to remove a fog light for a feed etc.
