point being there shouldn't be any marks, there's no need for them at all if you know what you're doing!

yeah which they clearly didn't on mine as they'd put the tensioner on the wrong way round. some pics on here somewhere but can't seem to find them

Fred, I seem to remember the F4 build manual saying the once belt tension had been added the setup should be spun by hand and then, using a pencil or similar, a mark should be added as pictured above... why I never knew because its just not needed.

Looks like the tensioner mark wasn't right to frim the second picture.

I was going to say my Renault workshop manual told me to do that so you can check they line back up after the 6 rotations! I will remove them before you see the car Fred so I dont get told off ;)

It's really quite piss poor that anyone would do that let alone think they could get away it (regarding the leaky rocker).

Needs sacking!

Continuing the engine strip-down and a few more pics courtesy of Fred...

Somewhat, er, 'tired' and oily looking... The last one's a corker! :S

Love this car, its a shame that its taken so long to get the 'mechanical care' that it needs. Obviously that isn't down to you as judging by the thread you must have trusted the guys you have previously let work on it!

That's shocking. I think even my girlfriend who thought the engine was in the boot could do a better job than that.
LMAO! Hey, perhaps she's a closet Porsche fan hence the reasoning behind her thinking... ;) Thanks for the reply fella.

Wall of shame!

He going to need a bigger wall for this one!
Isn't that the truth - a list of who to avoid in the RenaultSport Clio tuning world! To be honest it is a bit embarrassing as well as I'm the sort of person who does take time to think things through, do a bit of homework, etc.

Thanks for the reply mate. Let's just say I've calmed down a bit and I'm much happier that it's where it currently is! Yes, based on the work I had done previously I did trust those parties to simply get on with it. It's just a shame I made that first faltering step... and then followed it with a few more! But, alas, hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing. However, if does reaffirm why you see the same names/specialists cropping up time after time on the forum as to where to take your car if you want the job doing properly.

Does this car beat mine for the amount of items that deserve to go on the wall of shame? Doing bloody well if it does ;)

Crazy though :(
James, I dread to think what else is going to be found. It is crazy but you have to laugh, otherwise you'll just go mad. Chalk it up to experience and move on... learning a few expensive lessons along the way. Ouch. LOL!

Not embarrassing at all mate, these people talk the talk and don't follow through. That and also people should be more careful who they employ!!! Like jumped up man children who have no pride in anything they do.

BTM are the only specialist I can honestly say that when the jobs done, I've been really pleased. And considering what I gave him to work with that's saying some lol. It's a shame because it's not all bad, but doesn't take much to ruin a company - especially when so many f**k-ups happen within the same few months.

Why is it that TDF etc who were seen to be the dogs danglies turn out to be experts in bodging?

I dont want this post to appear that I think the sun shines out of Freds arse but I've never seen/heard of anyone bad mouthing his or the rest of the chaps at BTM's work? Why can't people just do the f**king job properly, it's obviously not hard.

This thread has made me feel very sorry for you and your trophy, I've lost out a lot when a specialist fucked my trophy engine, however no where near as much as you have, the constant journeys backwards and forwards, the hope you must of felt each time you went back to pick up your pride and joy, only a few weeks/months down the line to find it's still fucked.
It's not your fault or the cars fault, its just the previous workmanship hasnt been carried out to a good standard, hopefully Fred can put it all to rest for you and get it running as it should of been done in the first place.

I also quite like the BTM Signature on the photo's......crafty lol

it all comes out in the end, i remember when Fred himself used to recommend TDF to people on here, just a shame people didn't realise about TDF at an earlier date

I know, I remember that as well, I guess TDF have done good bits of work etc however from where I'm sitting it would seem standards slipped as more money rolled in

Thanks for the reply mate and I appreciate the kind words but sometimes bad luck and sh!t happens. I'm not defending anyone here but I don't really want to get into a war of words over specific specialists and/or their work. Yes, I'm upset and disappointed by the results I've had and I'll post up on here what's been happening with the car regardless of who has done what. That way people can read it and see it for themselves and then make their own educated decisions as to where they might want to take their car in future. As I say, I'm very disappointed and 'wasted' a lot of money but I want to focus on where it's at now and where it will be once it's done. But yeah... I hear you buddy and appreciate the reply! :D

Credit where it's due! Just a habit of mine watermarking photos with the mark of whoever took the photo. :D

all about the money and couldn't give a f**k is the way i see it
Which is why I think it's good that there are still those traders and specialists on here who will see you right for a fair and competitive price; and will often go that extra mile for you. I've had the pleasure of dealing with one or two here who do just that and that's why they earn the reputations they have. To paraphrase something a mate said to me recently, "if you hang around long enough you soon find out who the reputable folk are as opposed to those who are simply the fanboys flavour of the month." LOL! :D

Cheers for the replies chaps. :D

EDIT: Jumped up man children!!! LMAO!

The way I see it Matt just got very busy through race season and made a mistake by leaving a complete plank in charge. But it's still not an excuse.

A business is a business at the end of the day and if its rolling out with your name stamped on it and its not up to scratch it will bite you in the arse.

Just saying.

We've all been there and trusted people who basically boil down to be good salesmen and end up being mugged! I had an experience where i trusted someone, they fucked up and they got sued, it cost me more to sue them than i was owed but its the principle with me! I'm not bad mouthing anyone just doing what MY customer has asked, and for the record i could not giving two flying f***s if you use BTM or not, all i'll say is i've had cars with work done by pros in last year with work knocking on for about £100k (by them, not by me) and my wall of shame has had to be extended BIG TIME! Sod the money and do a proper job, then you'll have work all the time! Its not hard! But yet someone still claims i can't time up an F4R! As we say in b'ham, 0121 ;-)

Without wanting to drag this particular line of discussion on ;) I would agree with your sentiments, mate. It's your name/business that is going to get potentially tarnished at the end of the day.

Oh, and that ^ :D I quite like the no-bull and open attitude to be honest mate. You tell it how it is and you don't / haven't ripped me off (even saved me a small fortune by the end of this I would say) so I know exactly where I stand. Hence why I'm more than happy to state that I think I got it right this time (3rd time lucky) and just wish I'd done it earlier. Oh, no pressure by the way... ;)

I'd be telling porkies if I said I wasn't a little excited myself mate! :D

You deserve it mate after this roller coaster journey you have been on, i'm glad the trophy is still in your possession and hopefully now you will get to gain the benefits without the paranoia of something going wrong :race:

Well i'm off out to spend your deposit on a new gearbox for the V6, see you in 6months ;-)
LMFAO! Damn, I can't edit previous posts it would seem... :p It's strange how you can suddenly go off people. ;)
(Like you'd get the chance to take 6 months off anyway...)

Cheers - very decent of you to say so mate. Despite the troubles I've always maintained this Trophy is a keeper and so it shall remain.

;)
LMFAO - get outta here! Things haven't become that desperate yet! :rasp: Might save a few kg's though...

Hey, have you seen Fred's new gearbox for the V6? It's tidy. He won't let Sam anywhere near it though.

another interesting turn of events,
its a shame its gone that way, but good that it is now moving in the right direction
Welcome to the latest installment of...

Cheers mate. I do feel it's now definitely moving in the right direction. :)

Ive skipped through your thread, all i can say is well done for sticking with the car! most would of sold up a while ago

Will be awesome once back and at full health, look forward to seeing the engine back with the results :)

When are you hoping to get it back mate?
I have no set date or deadline. I know BTM are exceptionally busy so it'll be ready when it's ready. That'll do me! :D I just have to rough it for now and use the girlfriend's Jap-cr4p. :D

Thanks mate - it's been somewhat a labour of love (and a whole heap of other emotions) but I just can't let it go. Despite the issues I still maintain it is a really nice balanced car; a car that I enjoy driving as much now as when I bought it. :D

Im currently stood about 2 feet away from the Andy's car and negotiating with Zoltan to see if he'll swap them into my car. I'm sure Andy won't mind... Turinis would go nice with the RB too.

Think this was one of the first threads I read through completely when I joined. That was over 2 years ago and since then I often find myself checking in for updates...however for some reason I've never posted.

Read through all the ups and downs and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think this is partly as I can relate (not spent as much but have had so many issues) and yet I too keep my car despite the complete lack of financial sense.

My cars been to Fred many times, it's definitely in good hands. I look forward to more updates...for at least another 2 years :)
