Do your parents really need a C model?

Would a B4 or B5 not be more than good enough and also cheaper?

I'm still rocking a 55" BX that's now 4+ years old and still looks & performs great, I have my Xbox Series X hooked up to it, which is why I got the TV originally, no plans to upgrade until it dies.

Do they really need OLED?

Sure it’s nice to have but I bet my parents wouldn’t notice the difference in quality between equivalent priced TV’s with different panels. They’d be more interested in how easy the UI is to navigate rather than picture quality.

Well yeah, I was also going to say that LOL.

I literally had this conversation with my MIL last night as she wants a new TV and when pushed as to what she actually wants, it's mostly watching regular SD TV and iPlayer catch-up stuff, so an OLED is massive overkill.

The MiL has an OLED but it’s now fucked due to watching good morning Britain on it all the time as that is now permanently etched into the screen along with a massive patch in the middle (probably from the presenters head) which has caused discolouration.

Yeah new ones have better screen burn protection but they aren’t flawless but it’s something else to consider.

“Can I still get Emmerdale..?” Is likely to be the top question from mine 🙄

Yeah OLED burn in is still something I'd be worried about for people who aren't aware of the issue, my Dad watches the news a lot, same risk.

need some help with the new LG C5 tv, I'm new to smart tv's too. I've tuned in the programmes but there's still a lot still missing, my Mam mentions Channel 39 like DMAX it's not on there and many others. it's got my geographical area set, it's set at Antenna only. i've looked at a couple videos on youtube but can't find a one that deals my situation

Tune it again, if there's programs missing then adjust the ariel or get a booster and or better ariel.

the thing is , the channels were there on the old tv and also got a tv recorder box with freeview built in and there's lots more channels on there. But not on the tv itself. I've retuned it and still the same, i'll have another go tomorrow. it's strange if it's down to the ariel

That's how it can be sometimes I'm afraid.

LG can be peculiar about things. For instance my C10 doesn’t and cannot have the channel 4 app whereas my old E7 and C11 both have it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That was a separate issue where they didn't pay the license in time or something daft like that.

You should also find it's now available to install at last:)

@Geddes if it worked on the TV box just plug that in and use it if it is there?

I think Sky had a lot more free channels than what I get now but tbh, I hardly watch TV. I haven't even got the LG linked to an aerial, it's all on the BT box which is pretty shite.

My Dad doesn't bother with all the channels, but my Mam a bit like me would want them on the tv. Even though the channels are on the box. I had another go last night tuning it in with the ariel cable out and put it back in to kinda restart it, but that didn't work. Someone will need to call LG or customer service to find out how to get more of the Freeview channels on the TV.

His TV will run a lot smoother/better than the vast majority of TV boxes though!
Definitely, but from memory DMAX was quite a crappy picture on the sky box and if it's not available on LG Freeview then it's better than nothing.

I'm only suggesting using it for the channels you can't get on the LG, not for everything.

Got in kinda sorted, before with the old tv and box, the main tv Ariel cable went from the wall to the recorder box, another connector lead went from the recorder box to the back of the tv. There’s only 1 connection on the back of the tv and there’s 2 connections on the back of the recorder box, 1 male and 1 female. That worked.

But this morning, I tried just putting the main Ariel lead in the from the back of the tv to the Ariel wall socket, with the cable going direct in the tv the other connection for the recorder box can’t go anywhere. So there’s now no Ariel is connected to the recorder box. It all worked though on the tv all stations and got full signal strength.

I think the issue is the other cable is not giving enough strength , it s a cable extension male to female.
