to buy or not to buy. damaged 54 plate 172...

  clio 182 +cup packs
ive got the option of buying a royal blue , 54plate 172 ..i havent seen it yrt but by all accounts it had an engine fire due to the oil filler cap being left off(apparently). the engine loom is burnt and the bonnet is knackered. but theres no engine damage , even the wiper mechanism is fine....i know im being a bit vague but im going to see it today and i can have it for £2000 ish...any help, advice or guidance would be appreciated...:)

Didn't think 172's were on 54 plates. I thought the 182's phased them out. Maybe i'm wrong.

i bought my 172 with 14k on the clock for £1850, i bought it mainly cos it DIDNT have any engine damage.. would rather have a plastic wing repaired IMO... ( no chassis damage etc)

my ex's car was written off when someone crashed into us..it was minor damage they classed it as cat C ,most places i know if they dont want to repair a car due to being busy or just cant be arsed will quote it high so so it gets wrote off. its a shame really, this 172 i have was sent to my uncles yard with front wing damage ( looked like something heavy had fell onto it) and they wrote it off. no way was the damage more expensive that the actual value of the car.

Doesnt have to be more than the value of the car. Most insurance companies will write it off if the damage is more than 50% of the cars value.
