Track / Race 172

I am back from holiday on Tueaday so will ring MSV and see if they can do it on the day!

So the car is going to a local race car specialist (literally 1 mile away from my house) he deals with chevron race cars and builds a lot from chassi up he also looks after 2 seats which race in 24h endurance series. He has offered to support me with fitting cage, seating position, wiring loom, fire extinguisher fitment and so on. Cant wait to get it started.

Got a few bits ready to sort out myself, a quick paint over on the inside with some hammerite paint...fit a roof scoop. Hopefully will be ready soon!

@NorthloopCup have you got any pictures of how your cage fits behind your dash?

Josh

This is about as good as it gets mate, as I don't have that many pics of it in that stage.

You'll have to cut the ends off the end of the dash support mate to get the tubes in.

Car went into the garage today to start fitting bits and bobs!
Received the cage and it looks.....confusing!! Has some good advice from people who have this cage so will attempt to get some pictures along the way.
Josh

I plan to, it's currently with the guy who is fitting a few other bits for me however he is an older guy and not sure if he has the time to do it....so i am prepared to give it a go with a friend who does welding for a living!
@NorthloopCup

Past the ARDS test today hung around at Oulton park abit met a lad who I have seen before cannot remember his name though (Silver 172 having alternator problems)
Been up to see the Clio today hopefuly getting started this week.

Well done mate.
What cage did you go fit in the end? Is it a Custom Cages Clubman or something?
Russ
Yeah that's the one Custom Cages Clubman. Comes in a fair few bits and a DVD and images to fix it.
Not sure if you know it says you have to send a test piece off can anyone confirm this?

Yeah if you want certification for the cage you need to send a test weld sample. Used to come with 3 scrap bits of tube to weld together and send off and they send you a certificate back. Bit of a joke really as I've seen some of CC's welding and it's not great
Russ
Silly question do I need that certificate to meet MSA standard for racing?

Got mugged off for a medical today at my GP! £101 they charged me absolutely nothing I could do as they had signed and stamped my form I was not happy considering I though it was going to be around £70....never mind lesson learnt.
Will get some pictures of the car at the weekend, hopefully will have cage half fitted by then.

I think there's an HGV medical test that GPs try to mug you into, instead of actually looking into what is required.

I had a quick look over the chart she gave me and HGV was also on there it had a list of around 20 'Medicals' I didn't get chance to look at them all

Also chase them up when you send it Josh. They lost the original tube that my welder sent back to them! Had to use a replacement and re-send it.

I've said before, it should be about £60, they try and charge for the ECG one, which is obviously dearer.

Update
Went to the car today to clear the dash out and take the boot off to make it easier for welding.
I never want to remove the dash again never mind fit it back in It's a pin to remove.
If you have removed your dash can you send me pictures of what they look like now so I can get an idea of what to put back and what I can get rid off.
Few pictures....

Update 2/8
Been up to the Clio tonight, huge amount of progress which is good news! Cage is all fitted now apart from the harness bar so I lined up my seating position so the brackets can be made and fitted tomorrow along with the harness bar.
All messy bits like dash and wiring are being sorted at the weekend so hopefully in the next 2 weeks I can get a run out somewhere to make sure it is all okay and get it all set up nicely.

First race at Cadwell 3rd Septemeber in the Tricolore production plus I cannot wait I am sure it will be an experience.
Josh

Few pictures of the Clio tonight now I have been down!
Got the top dash fitted in and trimmed the bottom dash down to the middle piece only as I am still running the heater.

I need to send my seat back as it is twisted would you believe! I will speak to JJC tomorrow and see what they say.

Needs a nice tidy up but progress is progress.
