Trophy!

Despite being a member here since 2006 I had never owned a RS Clio and most of my posts on here have been drawings of ducks.

I always liked the trophy and settled on buying one after fancying an acclaimed drivers car for a few £k

Bought the first one I saw (#64)

Things to do:
Refurb dampers with BG Motorsport (dampers are currently on their way to BG!)
Strip Rear

Things already done:
fixed rear boot lock (solenoid issue)
replaced track rod ends

Things purchased:
Brembo HC Discs
Pagid Pads
OEM Sachs rear dampers
OEM Eibach full set of springs
New set of OEM front matts
Rear KTR Bootmat
OEM Rear Discs and pads inc Assembler
HEL Brake Lines
PMS Motorsport A/C delete kit
Booked in for new timing belt/aux at Birchdown
Booked in for alignment at cornering force (£££!)

Need to get harnesses and i'm also thinking about the Sabelt RS wheel but i'm concerned about the car's ability to pass MOT's with it fitted.

Was considering cams too but i've been told that due to the mileage on my engine (94k) it's a risk and the gains aren't worthwhile anyway

Welcome to Trophy ownership, mate. :)

Rubbish! If the engine has been looked after and serviced well then there's no reason why you couldn't throw in some cams when the belts get done...

Any engine mods planned?

Not really, too expensive to get worthwhile gains I feel :<

ty! : ->

i'm not sure how well the engine has been looked after as the last service stamp was 2009 and from that point on it was self-serviced!

is there any cams that would give gains on the standard ECU without remapping that I could stick in for the sake of it ? (been told an extra one hours labour to fit them on top of what i'm paying)

Cams and RS2 as you can always resell the RS2 and recoup most of your money...

No service history? Hope it was a good price mate..

To be honest, if you're not prepared (or in a position) to get a remap after having cams fitted then there's little point in doing it mate. You'll gain little benefit if any. From what you say, it's probably just worth getting it looked at and serviced by a reputable specialist... and then simply go out and enjoy it as is. It's a plenty capable car in stock form. :)

Your spec is mor or less exactly the same as mine, nothing wrong with standard power at all, spend you cam and mapping money on track days ;)

Basically someone reputable told me that cams are a complete waste of money and that's put me off + I guess it'd be another £700 and it already won't be long before I've spent not too far away from what I paid for the car in bits/labour :p

Serious thread alert. Welcome back Willcrook. Looks like you've got decent plans for the trophy.

ty :} I do provided everything goes well mechanically!

:! just had a look at your project thread, i'm not sure what to do about the harness problem - where to fix them to? considering a cage

I only have basic harnesses at the minute so plan on upgarding to something a little more substantial, Mine are pretty much fixed into the standard locations though, however, i can check to see if anything was modified.

are you keeping your interior?

ah, the standard locations where the rear seatsbelts were? I was under the impression that it's dangerous to have the harnesses at anything more than 20 degree angle ?

Keeping the interior and going for a: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?678149-Tim-s-Trophy-455 kind of vibe

This states slightly different.. I think ours is about 45 degs

I don't really know about ac delete as we only really used the car after it happened :) ours is soley a track car though, if your using it in the road its a good thing to have over the benefits

Hmm, will have a look at the angles when I next get chance to see how far away from 45'deg it'd be if I used the rear belt points! I'd prefer to do that than have a cage just because of the weight saving (hence why i'm getting rid of the A/C!)

:) i'm looking forward to it being all put together ! how did you find the sabelt wheel?

One of the best mods I've done - I can remember how it used to feel with the standard wheel but I can't get my head round how big it was, I'll never be able to go back.

The Sabelt wheel is so tactile too, it just urges you to push on, and provides so much more in the way of feedback (although most of that is probably perceived) but it is such a superb upgrade, I love it.

nice! looking forward to getting mine fitted, is it fabric on the rear of the wheel too? and what do you do if you want to beep someone :p

also- do you think there's an overall weight saving in using it (inc the boss)

It's suede all the way round, all over, apart from the centre and I have absolutely no idea whether it offers a weight saving or increase over standard.

The horn issue is resolved by fitting a Phase 1 indicator stalk (which has a horn button on the end). Several times I've struggled to find it, but that comes with time. Also, following the wheel change my indicators no longer self-cancel, which also took a while to get used to but is no longer a problem, although I only tend to do 4,000 miles a year so it's even less of a concern.

Best of luck with the project mate, I'll pop back in from time to time to see how you're getting on.

Ps, cams are worth it no matter what the mileage, a good friend has just gained 15 bhp off a map and cams and his engine is on around 130k lol

got the suspension back from BG and fitted it, improved thing lots!

checked the psi of the tyres and they were all over the place, 55 at the front, set them all correctly and now the car is absolutely sublime, just like how a trophy is supposed to be, so so nice!

I want a go lol.

What did bg say about the condition of them when you sent them down?

they were absolutely fucked, pissing out oil etc needed a new reservoir and loads of other stuff, cost me £600! one of the rear gaz dampers was leaking too :<

the car is in birchdown today getting the timing/sabelt wheel/a/c delete fitted :D

I also nipped to demon tweeks and bought 2 sabelt harnesses :O

The Gaz dampers are still under warranty mate so get in contact with them

I wonder if it being lowered has resulted in them leaking more fluid out? Anyway I'm glad its sorted mate :)

I've still not refurbed my fronts, the cars stupid bouncy just now! Can't wait to get mine done, how tricky was it removing and fitting the dampers? Cheers.
