Which harness

Do you have a cage? I wouldnt wear harnesses in a bucket without one.
For daily driving, its hard to beat a normal seatbelt, harnesses are an utter pain.
For trackdays, 4/5/6 point with an "aircraft style" rotary buckle, wouldnt touch the ones with the seatbelt style

Can I jump in and ask what would be suitable for the standard seats and also for buckets when I can afford them?

Where would they attach to also

I do have a cage, double diagonal with harness bars.
So of the two items I've linked the Oreca one is more suitable

Yeah Id go with that, but tbh, used ones on ebay are a good way to go.
I dont like the ones like your OMP link as you arms are still in them after theyre released which isnt ideal, theyre not much easier to put on or adjust or fit.

Am I better off buying a harness with the snap hooks on the lap straps or the plate type for bolt in only?

None.

People that run harness on stock seats deserve to be removed from the gene pool.

IMO of course....

They probably will be in a crash....

It depends how you're going to mount them @haimsey, mine are on screw in eyes and then clipped in and I removed the clips from the shoulder straps and put them around the harness bar on the cage.

@alistairolsen I am planning on wrapping the shoulder straps around the harness bar on my cage. It's the lap strap mounting points that I am unsure on. Have you got pics of where/how you've mounted yours?

oficcially the harness need an E mark to be road legal, Schroth make very nice stuff.

Not technically correct, if the car is striped out cage buckets etc they can be FIA or E marked and pass a MOT.
I have 6 point Sabelt harnesses wrapped around the harness bar and I have drilled and fitted eye bolts and spreader plates in the floor for the crotch and lap straps.
If the car is a daily too keep the seatbelt as the harness will do your head especially when you strap yourself in with the door open then try to close the door and you cant reach it lol
There is a sticky in this section with mounting info.

Hello mate I used four of these to attach to my seatbelt bolt points. http://www.msar.co.uk/motorsports/R...Harness-Hardware/Schroth-B23A-Bracket_88.html and then attached my harnesses via their clip attachments. My shoulder straps are just wrapped around the cage.

Hope this helps?

Rob.

They are about 150mm back from the slots in the seat, the inside one is going through the exhaust tunnel and the outside one is as far out as it can go.
Not the best picture but hope it helps

just fitted a 6 point harness to my Corbeau bucket seat, and that central aircraft style release is a pain to get all the (4 at the moment as crotch belts not fitted yet) belt buckles in at once. Is there a knack or just fiddle?

Also- got a brand new unbranded one from ebay, and had a drifting driver who I know look at it and he said the quality looks as good as a Sabelt or TRS. so I'm good with that.

However, I want to move that to passenger seat, and put a best quality in the drivers seat for me as I will be driving singleton 95% of the time.

So- whats a good make at a reasonable price ? Any pointers on decent brands - other than the 2 ive mentioned above

You should be able to click them in one at a time, that's the case with my 6 point TRS harnesses. Stay away from eBay and other sites a like as there's lots of horror stories on fake harnesses they can cause more damage than not wearing one, there's a video that demonstrates what can happen. If buying second hand if it was me I would want proof of purchase as it's very hard to tell the difference in appearance. Anything that Demontweeks and JJC rally sell will be up for the job. Scroth, TRS, OMP, Sabelt are all well known brands but again completely useless unless you know there genuine.

Got my harnesses secured to the floor on existing threaded bolt hole and they seem secure as heck
Now I read that they can cause "compression of spine" if an accident occurs, so what I do.... unravel the latch, undo the wrapping and then try wrap it round the cage bars?

Anyone local who knows how to wrap belts round bars? or is there an easier way (Not gonna weld eyelets on. or drill the bar)

Have a look on the manufacturers installion guides as sometimes there is ways to remove the buckle if not score the threads with a knife and pull them out and use a lighter to seal the end.

Bought a new seat, so next is to order a harness. I have no clue which is going to be best.
Intended use - occasional track days (also a daily drive atm), will need to be ok for MOT, wrapping around harness bar on rollcage, bolt to lower seatbelt points
Have been looking at the following:
http://k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=3787&appid=2
http://www.kamracing.co.uk/universa...d-4-ece-homologated-4-point-road-harness.html
Any advice appreciated

I have these as the car is road legal at the moment. When/if I race it will will come off the road and I will fit a 5/6 point aircraft buckle style one.

I was under the impression you need the standard 'road' buckle to pass the MOT. Lower mounting points are on eye bolts mounted rear of the seat with reinforced plates. They work well for me at the moment. I brought them from Demon Tweeks (you get a discount when you mention cliosport.net)

I'm running a road legal track car, and mine passes with the aircraft type buckle.
2 lap belts clip into eye bolts, bolted to plates (wleded to the floor), and the shoulder straps go around the harness bar on my cage.

I have a fresh(ish) mot with a 4 point harness and aircraft style buckles. Passed no problem. Think the mot ruling is along the lines of single handed operation for release (but don't quote me on that as I'm trying to remember what I was told)

This is a good video for wrapping the harness around a bar.

Mine are 6 point aircraft buckle and it passes MOT's ,I emailed VOSA to question it a few years ago and as long as the car is designed for a purpose ie cage buckets etc a FIA approved belt is fine but if you just fitted them to standard seats with full interior it would probably fail.
If you search you will probably find the post with the copy and pasted reply if I get chance later I will try and dig it out.
