just wondering if people actualy declare there motor has been lowerd, now ive got some springs (35mm) coming which i will be fitting saturday. Just rang my insurance and they said they wont cover me on lowering springs (churchill)

Any 1 had any bad experiences when u have smashed ur car up and your insurance havent paid out because they noticed the springs????

i really wanna lower my car so im thinkin bout spraying them black, will they no???

First thing they will check now as you phoned them for a quote.

I've declared mine despite being black already and hardly lowering the car (eibach pro-kit springs), if they can find a way out of paying out they will be legit or don't bother imo. And as DrRollo says they'd check as you ringing up to check will be on file.

How long left on the policy?

its a risk at the end of the day, depending on a lot of variable factors. Made worse by the fact you rung, the agent will write on your customer notes you inquired about lowering springs and as said it may be something that would be relayed to the assessor if you did have an accident. you could end up in deep water if you have an accident, or they might never notice. Nobody on here can tell you that. However they Can invalidate your policy if found.

I declared mine on my 182, wouldn't want to chance it

Not worth chancing it IMO.

Lets be honest if you wrap it you're going to be hard pushed to tell the difference!!!

I've not declared the lowering springs on the Vee...There Black, only 25mm lower and unless you really know what your talkin about you'd never know!

I declared the coils on the 172 tho.

I've declaired mine (with Adrian Flux) and they are only 15mm lowering springs, but after an experience i had in the past of not being able to get more money from a write off because i hadn't declared certain things on my car I have sworn to myself that i am going to tell them everything now....

You learnt your lesson then by the sounds of it. My insurance wants like £135 to lower my car and thats by no certain height so i could just put it on 15mm springs or slam it to the ground on coilovers :S

every single mod declared on mine, i dont need any hassle from an insurance company. Plus ive got like for like so everything will be replaced should anything happen

  Golf R soon...
All mods declared on my policy with Greenlight, all I was charged was a one of £25 to change the policy details!

I must admit I was going to risk it but I've had a quote from brentacre insurance (as advertised in PFC) and they said it doesn't matter what I do it won't go up, as long as I don't go mental on the engine.

Thats fine, but what happens if the accident is big and you're in hospital and the police take you car away. You'd be seriously funned!

Standard ftw if you cant afford to do it properly/dont want your pants pulled down by insurance companies.

  Ex-172 owner. Now a Mini!
I had quite a heavily modified car many moons ago that got hit hard from behind. It had different wheels, big brakes, carbon fibre bonnet, lowered, engine mods, exhaust etc etc. Hadn't declared any of them at all and the insurance company got the car fixed without so much of a mention of the mods. That was with Churchill...

Wouldn't do it again though because the worry at the time of them not paying up was unbearable!

  Weeman sucks ****
ALWAYS declare EVERYTHING.

only a fool doesn't.

true. i have declared the lot. some things cost some don't. most of the charges on mine was because of cost to replace, not performance. and that's only the coilovers as they're 700 odd quid.

oddly enough, the buckets and 4 point harnesses were no extra.

don't give them a chance

I declared mine as lowered on renewal... saves me £25 admin fee if I ever decide to actually get it lowered at a later date lol

you can bet your bottom dollar if it was a total loss they would have not paid out.

There are a few minor mods i'd personally not bother with (side repeaters etc) but I'd declare lowering springs.
