Jimbob's Black Gold 182

Thought it's about time to start a progress thread for my 182, since I've had it a couple of weeks now :

Pictured next to my Corsa, which it will be replacing...although I've got to admit I currently prefer the look of the Corsa, that will soon change hopefully with a couple of mods!

Little quick bit of information :
Black Gold 182
Full Fat
42000 Miles
Full Service History
Recently had all belts done at DTM

Pretty much standard, besides a fairly loud exhaust system - Decat and 2.25" straight through system (which currently needs new mounts sorting out!)

Worst thing is I actually haven't had it on the road yet, but will be hopefully within the next couple of weeks!!

Currently unsure which path to go down, Either keep it fairly original being its a original low mileage example, or do my own thing...

Did my very first detail on the car today, well infact it's the first time I've actually done the full works - clay, polish & wax

Quite pleased how it went overall, couple of things learnt and which I can improve on!

So took a couple of snaps whilst the sun was still out :

Currently looks like a 4x4 with that much arch gap (tbf the wide angle lens doesn't do it any favours haha) but I've got some Cooksport springs sat in the garage waiting to go on this week hopefully, so no big deal for now!

The sun does a good job of bringing out the gold :

I feel this cleaning lark will become all to common with a black car....especially since I live in the countryside....What a bloody stupid idea getting a black car was!!

Car looks great, although it's not blue lol
Oh don't you bloody start lol

Still wish I went Arctic Blue ngl, but the chances of finding one as tidy and low mileage as this we're extremely slim, especially as I was starting to get impatient haha

If I lived in town I think I'd stick to the black, as it does look lush cleaned...just not gonna stay like that around where I live!

Right, sorting the exhaust out was tonight's plan, and made good progress

How it is currently :

ecaaf307fc5517356971274e3de54489.jpg

And how it will look :

c0df6a353139520d6dd478443178ffe6.jpg

It'll all be welded up tomorrow and mounts sorted, but I'm just currently deciding how much I want it to poke out :

Think that's what I'm going for, but I can always change it at a later

That looks really tidy is that the original cup splitter I see? Really want to replace the skoda one for a cup but don't think il ever be able to justify the cost

Thanks buddy, overall for a 10 year old black car I'd say it's in very good condition! Obviously been looked after

Yep, original cup splitter fitted, which is a perk! They are stupid money to replace, when you think you can get skoda ones for not much over £10!

Definitely looks in extremely good shape. Very rare to find one that is in good condition and with low mileage.

Any tips for the exhaust adjustments you are doing.

That's why I went for it, was really after Arctic Blue but one coming up as tidy and low mileage as this was doubtful

I'll admit it's not perfect, there's a couple of stone chips on the bonnet, the odd small scratch here and there, but I was very impressed for a 10 year old car

I reckon someone with the correct detailing knowledge could bring it back really well, and get rid of the majority of not all, as they all seem to be surface marks, nothing deep

Regarding the exhaust, I'll get some photos up later tonight once we've got it all as I want it, but it's looking promising as we got it looking like this without too much issue :

edee99049d3a2e10283e9879e0ab3a11.jpg

Just want to make the bracket coming off the exhaust more secure by fitting a proper mushroom tip hanger

I know, Iv seen them mentioned at well over £100, so doubt il ever get one tbh! They look so much cleaner though, really finish the front end off nicely!

Definitely looks like it's been looked after, good job with the exhaust as well  what kind is it, any idea?

That looks great, so much better than a corsa C lol.

BG is my favourite 182 colour, I was looking for either a bg or an arctic when I was looking to buy.

It's a custom made exhaust made by a company in Lancashire

If I'm honest for £360 I'd be fairly disappointed - just the fact one of the exhaust hangers has come off (hence why it was so low) after only 6 months. I've got to admit though, it does sound amazing!

I'll upload some more information regarding what we did at a later date, but here's a couple of photos for now :

Haha, it will be once I've got it on cooksport and some other alloys, not a massive fan of the standard ones tbh

The Black is growing on me, I've got to admit, after seeing it clean and just now in low light - It looks bloody amazing, if I'm allowed to say so myself haha

Unfortunately a iPhone doesn't show it that well, but I'll get some better snaps when I've got the DSLR on me[/url]

That last shot it looks bloody excellent, BG isn't half mean looking from certain angles. Currently in the process of collecting parts to re-do my own exhaust, it sits ok but that's only because it's bodged with cable ties in the hangers for now, bugs the hell out of me knowing it's like that even tho it looks ok haha

What condition are your standard alloys in?

I'll briefly explain what we did, as on the phone now and it's not the easiest - new hanger was welded on, then fitted to a tigersealed exhaust mount after people recommending it a lot, I'll admit it doesn't look the prettiest but certainly does the job, besides who will actually see it?!

5645e74752c887c59d0d6eabe52c9849.jpg

Then towards the back of the back box (opposite end to the tips) we welded a new bar/hanger on so it sat a lot better and won't slide out

6532a5bdeb37d471691624c211e758a4.jpg

Cable tie is just there for reassurance, doesn't need to be there but just felt happier with it

Overall Tom, fairly good - but I'd be lying if I said they were mint

I'm trying to look in the photos to see if I can see any marks, but I'm struggling haha

I'm sure they do have a couple here and there, I know the one on the rear right has a slight scuff

Few little things coming along on the 182,

Fitted some Cooksport Springs, which have helped get rid of some of that massive arch gap, and I'm hoping they may drop ever so slightly more once all settled

Managed to break my phone so can't even look at past photos to compare the difference, but definitely looks better! Yes by choice I'd like to go lower and get some Coilovers, but on the roads I live on it's just no practical!

Here's a decent quality photo now the exhaust is all sorted, I realise that my exhaust trims are a different colour before someone says haha! Half tempted to order some carbon fibre ones...as I've got a bunch of Carbon Fibre goodies on there way to me as we speak...

Thinking some wheel spacers wouldn't hurt now it's slightly lower, but I am after some Cup Turini's then I'll see how they look

Also have had some Michelin Pilot Sport 3's fitted to the front two wheels, read good things about them so hoping they'll be ideal

Oh, and attempted to fit some Heko's which ended badly, bloody windows wouldn't even get close to shutting, and I fitted everything properly and never had any issues in the past with Heko's, so have just stuck them in a corner of the garage in a rage of defeat

Fitted a bunch of Carbon Fibre goodies - Grill, Front Badge, Rear Boot Badge/Catch, Rear Bumper Trim and Door Bullets

(Please excuse the dirty footwell, it does have a mat on top of a mat, so it's not too bad haha)

For those wondering why the bonnet is up - I put the battery on trickle charge whilst I was doing it, after Henk's instructions do keep advising you charge the battery, thought it would be best to stick to them

I've literally only just started it up, but the idle does seem a lot better! Hell of a lot less lumpy, and just more consistent

I'll give it a test tomorrow on the way to work, and see what I think....but so far I'm impressed!

Stunning photo's. I definitely need to get the carbon trim on mine going! Out of interest, are they genuine or dipped/wrapped? I'm debating wrapping as tbh, it's a Clio and who's going to notice unless they're bang up close?

They're dipped mate - as much as I'd like real carbon, it's just not worth the extra to me, as you say it's only a Clio

I don't particularly rate wrapping, but these new wraps coming out do look more realistic I'll admit that

What sort of price did you pay? PM me if you don't want to discuss on here, that's fine.

Thanks for the kind words all, means a lot!!

Look on eBay... I've got real carbon mirrors, and a rear wiper delete in real carbon, very very smart, love the car dude BG is s great colour

If I'm honest buddy, carbon mirrors I wouldn't be keen on, just purely for the reason being I live 7 miles from a main road, so I'm stuck with country roads and hedges, and if it got marked by a hedge it would be gutting!

Unless they're going at a bargain price....hint hint haha

Also like having my rear wiper tbh, always useful when it rains

Went to my very first show today, which was Cruise Culture in Carmarthen

Went with a bunch of mates, and we even managed to win best stand which was a treat, didn't really get many photos of my Clio tbh, as there was a lot better cars around to take pictures of haha

There is about twenty photos (which are still uploading currently)

No major changes but a few little touches here and there :

Got a secondhand Powerflex Dogbone mount at a good price, so fitted that

Very impressed with it and it's definitely improved the feel of gear changes, and I don't notice hardly any increased vibrations (which was partly why I was keen on buying on secondhand, hoping that it had already worn in as such)

Treated myself to a few bits from the ClioSport.net Shop, so I'm doing my bit for the forum now haha

As you can see I bought a fair few stickers, as I was slightly undecided on which ones to go for!

Also bought myself a Renault F1 Team sticker off eBay and fitted that to the front, which I'm well pleased with!

Been ages since I've uploaded an update, no major changes to shout about unfortunately - been waiting for a set of Turinis for ages but everyone seems to be asking stupid money!

Gave her a bit of love today as she was filthy! Joys of owning a black car living on country roads...

Only gave it a sponge and rinse down using my normal 2 bucket method, really need to work on my drying technique as I'm getting far to many water/dust marks but I was fighting against the sun today! Annoyingly I forgot to get any Plastic Trims Restorer on the splitter, so it's looking a little grey and patchy...

Still got a load of bits to fit, such as Carbon Exhaust Trims, Carbon Rear Wiper Surround, Battery Cover, New Engine Bay Bolts, etc

Finally got a bit of good news!! Managed to pick up a set of cup offset Turinis on Sunday, got them at a bargain price but they do need a refurb (which I knew before hand)

I thought I might as fit them...and I've got to admit the colour is growing on me!! (I'll also admit that I've photoshopped some of the kerbing out just to give a better view of the wheels)

Now I'm in two minds do I get them refurbed in the same colour, rather than going anthracite (which was the original plan)
Wanted to try something different like Gold, but feel it won't look right

Although after having them on for a couple of days, to see if they grow on me, I think Anthracite is the safe bet :
