I used a very long screw driver and leavered it up.

Will give it another go. I guess it needs some brute force ?
Good work Brigsy. I need one of those guns. Couldnt get a drop link bolt off today and bet one of those would crack it straight off.

They are a godsend on some jobs mate. Ive just sold the sealey one in the pic cheap as have upgraded to high torque dewalt impact wrench. I have another sealey one here that needs a battery if you want it for nowt.

Good job done, I need to do a clutch on the van I think too, pedal is nice and light get I'm getting quite a bit of judder when pulling away.

Cheers mate. Its made a massive difference to the drive as there is a hill right near the house, which made the engine feel like it was going to fall out every time i done a hill start on it. Clutch plate was well worn around the edges so assume original. The clutch fitted is a gsf special, Exedy brand. First time i have fitted jap parts to a french car lol.

Looking for a clio van for work at the mo, yours would be ideal
?

I'm tempted to get a car and convert my van parts over mate, it's £250 a year to tax!!!

Changed the turbo on Monday for a used ebay £40 special. No pics as oily as feck diesel, compressor housing seal was on its way out and leaking oil onto the cat and into the boost hoses making it a bit smokey on boost, and siren noise on spool indicating out of balance. I fitted the turbo 25k ago and it was a gumtree £30 special so cant moan.

Easy job took a couple of hours, cleaned oil out of boost hoses and pcv whilst there. Performance has improved a little, faster spool, better mpg and no smoke. Ready for use for work on the 23rd April ! Its looking a bit unloved so going to hit it with the da on bank hol weekend weather allowing.

I used to love my wife’s old dci80. On the back roads around my way you can just keep your foot planted and throw it into the corners and still maintain high 40s mpg ?

Noticed a fair bit of black smoke on turbo spoolup recently..initially i couldnt really be arsed looking into it, air filter is new and it was acceptable enough for 143k. Anyway got up early today and whipped egr and boost pipe off, not looked at either since cleaning both when i got the car.

Egr still clean, no oil just a bit of soot..prob because it gets a good flogging quite often lol

20190419_074105.jpg

Boost hose well caked up with oil and s**t and quite restricted due to leaky compressor seal on old turbo, never thought to look when changing even though plastic boost hose was coated in oil which i cleaned up when changing turbo.
20190419_073648.jpg

Dug out the oldskool Mr Muscle for the job, and a bit of brake cleaner to clean out and raked out inlet/egr body as far as i could get
20190419_074544.jpg

Seems to be a lot cleaner on acceleration now and goes a little bit better. Adjusted the rear shoes whilst at it as pedal/handbrake was a bit long, the self adjusting mech is s**t on the drums and never works right even though it is free and not seized.

Took a daft hour and job done. Going to hit it with the D/A over the weekend as paint looking a bit unloved !

Had a spare day today so dug the d/a out and give the clio a once over.

Fallout remover early doors whilst temp was low, blasted off, snow, 2 bucket wash, dry. Clayed, taped up, quick correction with an orange hexlogic & CG V36.

This removed quite a few swirls and scratches, did not go too mad though as no paint depth gauge and just a quick once over as it is a 15 year old daily driver with 145k on, 75% of the swirls have gone though looks miles better. I think it would need a heavy cut with a wool pad to make it mint, for a novice im not attempting that.

It was a little bit marry after this, not too bad though so give it final polish with a white hexlogic and CG v38 which refined it nicely. Finished with a coat of Collinite 476s, applied it with the d/a and finishing pad which worked awesome and effortless, first time ive used it to apply wax. Trims gelled and tyres blacked, should stay looking nice for a while now.

Good work Brigsey, looks great.

From the sound of things you work bloody quick.

Cheers mate, steady away and chipping away as been slacking over winter lol.

Started new job this week, basically i do property surveys which in the old job had a company van (68reg Kangoo). New job has quite an increase in pay but need to use my own car so pressed the clio into daily use, ive done the graft on maintenance bits so should be reliable enough for an old car with the Kangoo 172 as backup if it goes tits up. Currently looking for a clio dci van or fiesta tdci as could do with more room for ladders etc but will keep using it for the interim.

Interestingly on the first day, one of the admin lasses asked if i own YR54LZJ. I was expecting bad news - that it had been wiped it out or its on fire in carpark or whatever, then she says her dad owned it until it had 60k on the clock and traded it in. Failed every mot on suspension components (the truth) she used to fly over speedbumps in it and asked if it still smokes black when booting it (yes lol). I knew it was a local car and did not expect to bump into previous owner, especially as new company is big 1500+ employees. Small world i guess.

Mpg has been great this week as doing a few motorway miles, 63-64mpg all day. Filled up on payday, £57 of shell derv which showed 720 range, its dropped a bit due to a few miles in the pic. These 1.5dci's are epically cheap to run, and just making money all the time as 45p a mile for business use.

Really like this, great colour and looks nice on those wheels.
You wouldn't think it had so many miles or was so cheap!

Cheers mate ? it drives great too engine still nice and healthy, uses hardly any oil or nowt. Lass at work could not believe it is on 144k now.

Bit of warning on the van mate they are expensive to tax I can't remember the total as I nearly fainted and done mine by DD so I pay £22 per month.

If I was you find one in the scrappies, remove the rear Interior plastics, half bulkhead and the floor then get the window panels colour coded and convert your car! I'm looking for a nice 80/100 to do that with mine

Converting the current dci to van is an option to be fair. Ive been looking at the later campus vans and they are euro4 but still £140 a year tax, so not as cheap as the cars.

Had a small issue yesterday, booted it up a slip road and noticed power was down and sounded like a hairdryer under the bonnet..i was expecting the air temp sensor to have popped out but when looking the new boost hose has split at the joint. Cheap thin replica plastic shite ive asked for my money back, less than 500 miles of slow ish driving since fitting.
20190517_185124.jpg
Have refitted the original hose which is a bit deformed but seems to be sealing ok this time round, its a b*****d of a job to get the oem hose on properly.

In other news have given up looking for a tidy van and the higher tax puts me right off. Purchased a pair of van panels and looking for a dci with aircon to fit them to. Hard to find a decent dci now a lot of shite about and absolute messer sellers. Going to view one today local ish see if its any good.

I fancy doing a sport replica dci van with a/c, dont tell the mrs this one is supposed to stay stock for work haha. Will keep my eye out for a bulkhead, thinking nice rear seat delete carpet. The boot is choka with my gear for work at the moment in the current one, pop up ladders the lot. Cant leave nothing on show as parking up in some places that are quite rough sadly.

Dci's multiplying now. Been sniffing around for one for a couple of weeks just to hammer for work. Criteria was air con and preferably not much rust and less than 200k mileage. After looking around found a couple of low'ish mileage dci 100's but the sellers were absolute cranks.

I dont mind travelling for the right car but they would not take extra pics or give info saying "its emmaculate" or "just view it" when you can clearly see a bit of damage on pics took with a potatoe which show nothing. These were cars around the 1k mark or higher too which is top dollar for a mk2 dci. One of the feckers started giving the mrs some slaver when she asked for extra pics, he got the backlash off that haha. The daft thing is i only wanted pics of rear arches and would have given him an easy sale if it was decent at around 1k, so feck him his loss.

Anyway a spares or repairs dci65 came up in Mexborough which was only 80miles away..car sales place and the seller was decent on the phone, honest so went for a look. £395 tested until October 107k and a/c.

Goes down yesterday afternoon, gets to the place. Quick look round and condition is acceptable, a few bits needed but no biggie. Fired it up and starts no bother, airbox and engine cover rattling like feck but apart from that not bad. Rev it and loads of black smoke out of the exhaust.

Fella asks if i want a test drive so take it a few miles. Pull off the forecourt and its slow as f**k. Looked behind and comedy amounts of black smoke "rolling coal" would describe it well. I did think about turning back at this point but kept driving for the comedy factor to see if it would go bang. Revved it up to 4k in 2nd which it made slowly and totally fogged the road out behind me with dense black smoke. It was absolute gold, seller did not care we were all laughing. Coolant temp stayed ok but felt like no boost pressure at all even though the pipes were all on. Im my mind i had an idea it would either be blocked egr/inlet pipe, totally dead or seized turbo or injector. I did not worry too much about the injectors as engine was smooth and no hesitaition, even though it hardly made 50mph 3 up. Seller says previous owner had owned it since 2006 and just traded in as its been sluggish for ages lol.

So gets back to the car yard and stuck £250 offer in as chuckaway car and chuckaway money if it turned out to be total scrap. Seller says £300, i say £275 and then we settle at £290. Half a tank of diesel in and 300 miles on the range so if it makes it home itll be a free journey making the overall price slightly cheaper.

Quick insure on the Cuvva app for £8 and set off home. Its bellowing out s**t loads of black smoke on throttle but plodding along..good job i dont mind driving scrap cars. Got Radio one dance anthems on blasting away and turbo is whistling away from what sounds like a boost leak somewhere.

Get on the a1 and it makes 70mph eventually but wont go up the hills slowing down to 50mph. I notice the throttle pedal is really stiff so just start flogging it down full throttle and bellowing out black smoke everywhere, not caring if it goes bang or not as next place it will be going is the weigh in yard if it does ! Wound it up a bit 80ish, hold it there for a bit noticing that the engine is indeed picking up a bit of power and less smoke when we were near wetherby services. Start toeing it a bit on and off the throttle and its not running too bad but still quite smokey on throttle.

Stop on the a19 and bang a cheap obd bluetooth scanner on and torque app to check if it had any boost. Flog it out of the services and see 15lbs boost so we have boost pressure, and its actually going alright as the mrs is following in my orange dci and its on par power wise. Get near home and the smoke has really settled down, its quite acceptable just a but laggy. Can only assume it had never been given full throttle for ages and very coked up.

First pic with the orange dci

Got up today and nice dry weather so give it a once over as just abandoned it last night.

First thing was to pull egr and inlet pipe off, egr was indeed blocked up but blocked on the solenoid side wierdly ? A bit crusty around the penny but not too bad. Can see somebody has been there before albeit years ago as airbox mount is broken, which i repaired with a self tapper and silicone hose, and fit the lid properly as not even clipped in.
20190519_081731.jpg
20190519_082048.jpg
20190519_081728.jpg

Inlet pipe is clean'ish, but full of exhaust soot can only assume egr has been stuck wide open at some point, poss yesterday before i flogged it 80miles home.

Puts it back together and it stumbles into life with a cloud of smoke but settles down to a nice quiet idle with fixed airbox. Bang clip on and scan for faults, nothing sinister and reset egr adaptives and cycle it a few times can hear it clicking away.

Me and the mrs both take it for a flog around the block, its like a new car no issues at all just normal dci a little bit of black smoke if you rev it hard but its getting cleaner all the time. Air filter is bad so a good service will probably sort it. Inside is cleaned as totally grotty.

Overall not a bad little thing, needs a couple of bits doing but drives great, looks to have new discs and pads up front, new drums on rear, no rust, everything is greased all hinges etc. Its been loved yet unloved its strange, but took a gamble and it will do.

Project van is a go'er ?

Snagging list, goal is to spend as little as possible but do the essentials

Service first, bosh the cheapest oil in i can find and run it for a few miles, drop as current oil looks like its not been changed for a long time. New air filter, decent oil and filter, diesel filter, new pollen filter as had to bin current one as blocked and looks to be the original one as Renault stamped !

Poss new battery, current one started lazy yesterday, its marked up Delphi and Renault branded with oem part number, cant be the original surely? Fired up ok after a run but seemed a bit lazy after ign on for ages with clip on, but not went flat so could wing it i guess

Cambelt and aux kit, it looks like its had a belt on before as red coolant and gates aux, aux belt is cracked so not great.

Monitor oil leak, oil all over top of inlet and turbo, cleaned off today not sure if rocker cover gasket leaking or spilled oil from a top up? Nothing dripping underneath just oil all over

Fix aircon/regas, low pressure so prob leak somewhere, wont cost much from the a/c specialists down the road. Took the megane 225 there a couple of years ago and they done a class job for next to nowt.

Engine mount, looks like dogbone and gearbox mount aren't too clever, and possibly top one too. All cheap enough

Fix passenger side window, reg checks out ok looks to be wiring fault. Goes up but not down, tried spare switch no joy. Dont care too much about this though as prob only be me in it

Paint and fit van panels in rear, tint rear window, chuck rear seats down or away will see ?

Cheap dab radio, as i fecking miss the one from my old 68reg Kangoo, and itll be getting quite a bit of use

Apart from that massive list drives great, seriously straight and tight for a clio lol.

great buy! EGR is perfect too that's what you want, not clogged obviously but, sooty but no oil!

love that colour it will look mint as a van! hopefully this will spur me on to find one to reshell my van!

would look good as 1*2 panelled rep. ?

Well aye, will see if funds allow some paint in the future might get bumpers on it.

Cheers mate (y) i dont mind the colour at all. Egr was dry as a bone just pure soot, quite pleased as was expecting turbo to be well on its way. As soon as the oil is changed ill give it an italian tune up to decoke it and go from there

Love this thread. Our dci is a cheapo car, it has broke down many times as an injector is playing up. we keep saying we will sort it next time but never do. I'm keeping my eye our for a dci 100 for my daily so not to rack up the miles on my 182.

Cheers mate (y) the dcis just keep plodding on they are great little cars for the dollar. Dci 100 would be great, i was looking for one myself, better gearbox and better mpg.

Give the Blue dci a basic service today. The oil looked like it had not been changed for a long time, filter had rust spots on the outside lol. Bought a cheap gallon of euro car parts special offer 5/40 fully synth to stick in for 500 mile or so then dump it for decent stuff, new purflux oil filter and fram air filter. Engine sounds great with fresh oil, nice and quiet, runs good. Can hear a bit of turbo whistle on boost so need to have a good check round to see if any boost leaks.

Also changed pollen filter as the blower was asthmatic at best, even worse than the usual crap clio blower. I think it was the original one
20190524_153557.jpg

Reset trip earlier and epic mpg as usual, not had to put any diesel in yet still running about on what was in when bought. Overall seems to drive well, will need shocks up front soon and the crappy arb outer links doing but apart from that could use as is, cant argue for a cheapo car.

One thing ive noticed is the handling is pure barge compared to the orange dci, the eibach sportlines and pilotsports are epic for making progress day to day, this nearly fell over taking the corners at the same speed as the orange dci
20190524_183829.jpg

A lad came round today to measure up some windows on the house, he asked if i have a renault fetish haha, drive is looking fairly busy i guess ! Need a few backups for when they all break haha.

The flamer van looks awesome @MattRS182 id love to do a sport van but need the dci mpg.

Had a little chav chuck a bottle at the blue dci lastnight so its sporting a small dent in the drivers rear qtr now. By the time id seen the cctv he was long gone and he best count it as his lucky day i never got hold of him. Cant have f**k all these days.

@Brigsy My first car (clio 1.2) had those blue/black seats! Brings back memories. And renault slating aside they really are a good car for what you get, all the little problems and work required is hardly a big deal and once you know all the tricks working on them is quite easy, sometimes anyway!

The clio2 is an epic car for the money. Ive been using my orange dci daily and done 500 miles this week already, 64.4mpg its running on fresh air, handles good, goes well enough and not a bad place to be. Cant ask for any more really for a cheap motor !

Small update from last weekend, got given a sport grill for free so fitted to the Blue dci
20190530_200450.jpg

Pic of said dent, still highly annoyed but thenback end of the rear qtr has an old man style rattle can painted bit, so will prob get the full qtr blown in.

I wish I had a mrs like yours @Brigsy

Mine moans at me when I have 3 Renaults on the drive. She gives me horrible looks as if I've just shat on the drive and started rolling around in it??

Its took a bit of graft but shes a Renault hoarder now. Wont let me have a beavertail recovery truck though still working on that :cautious::LOL:
