Burpspeed - From The beginning

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

aye, but a bargin and alot less roomy than the current one. Might have to break out the black aint on the back tho

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

With fcs looming i needed to get my finger out and get the car ready.

Btw, It will not get washed, unless someone offers to do it for me.

Fitted my new (previously loved) front brakes recently.

Was still on the standard lines at first and they do have alot more initial bite. We'll see how they feel on track and see if i can actualy get confidant to use them properly.

Ive been so busy at work recently and working 12hour shifts that the last thing i want to do is work on my cars on my day off. So I took our Peugeot to a garage for him to do a clutch for me and went to my mates place to fit the braided lines.

I let him do the messy bits and passed him the spanners.

Bye bye rubbery-ness

Hello braidy bunch..........

Finshed the job off with a bottle of Castrol fluid, super dot4 vintage.

Also today the oil pressure sensor decided to play up and has now stoped working all together so it off to my friends at hylton Renault again in the morning to get one before sunday.

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Ah, shame.

You need to work them, try to get the pedal position to vary with pressure - if you've got it sorted it won't.

Until you boil the fluid that is LOL

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Ah, shame.

You need to work them (get them hot), try to get the pedal position to vary with pressure (brake hard and soft when hot, see if the pedal always stops in the same place or squeezes down further if you press harder) - if you've got it sorted it won't (it should just hit resistance, then stop, you increase the pressure, you stop quicker but the pedal doesn't move).

Until you boil the fluid that is LOL (like I did at Bedford - got fresh fluid now though ;) )

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

er, ok. I think ive got it, you'll prob have to run in by me on sunday tho.

i just went out in it to fetch the gf from work and it really does stop well.

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Looking good matey - got the same disks on mine now.
What pads you using? im on DS2500's now :D

Tried to fit my hoses, one of the originals was seized at the caliper, the other at the line - my mate is sorting on Saturday - so i'll have the trip up to the rock to get used to them - eek!

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Looking good bud!

Those lines should have been on my car! just never got round to fitting them :-/

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Held off going for a number 2 to read this - fantastic read !!

Did you find much difference in weight between the road wheels (OZ F1's) and your track wheels??

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

yes mate, track wheels are significantly lighter! not weighed them to give accurate but you can tell when carry them.

Gonna run on the black wheels all the time now, stock wheels are almost sold

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

burp, when you removed the passenger airbag did you use a resistor to stop the airbag light comming on?

/carl

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Got one of these recently coz i refuse to pay the price cup racer ones go for. As everyone knows they are not a straight fit.

IMAGE_683.webp

Only came in one colour so i stripped all the paint off, took nearly two hours off and on.

IMAGE_684.webp

First thing bumper off

IMAGE_724.webp

Next up had to modify the tow eye holder to alow the omp eye to pass through.

IMAGE_725.webp

IMAGE_726.webp

Like so.

IMAGE_727.webp

small amount of grinding needed to get it sitting level on the front.

IMAGE_728.webp

And its in.

IMAGE_730.webp

IMAGE_731.webp

Also coz its basicly bolted to the car it cant be unscrewed and stolen like the cup racer ones.

Bit of modification to the bumper to alow the hoop to pass through.

IMAGE_732.webp

IMAGE_733.webp

And its done...........

IMAGE_734.webp

IMAGE_735.webp

For around £12 and 1 hours work.

To those who say it WONT fit.

No mate, if you cut the airbag ecu loom out the light will go out. There are two wires joined together in it.

hmm i would rather not cut the loom, anything else i can do?

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

no idea mate thats what i did. mine had no ecu when i got it, just a s**t load of wires hanging down

ah ok no problem mate :) thinking about tackling the dash today but wanna get an idea of the airbag first

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

You know if u take it out the passenger airbag it leaves a big hole?

Check my earlier posts, ive got different (non-airbag) dash top.

yeah i saw that lol, may get one of those dash tops later but for now ill live with the hole.

struggling for places to keep my phone/garage remote/keys now its been stripped lol!

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

barron keep an eye on my thread... i should have an answer for the airbag light problem without cutting the loom

jay - good work mate, i don't fancy cutting the bumper so must find another way, could you retap the hole so it takes the bigger thread?

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

omp is a smaller thread.

You could probably refit the bumper once you have modded the holder and pass it trough the bumper hole. then tighten the nylock nut from behind.

Personaly i couldnt be assed with having to remove it everytime i take the bumper off

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

i will be very rarely be taking the bumper off, is it accessible from the rear like justin or is it a pain in the ass also like justin?

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

pmsl^

Not sure mate, cars not here atm. the peugeot isnt done yet so the gf has had to drive down to the gym in it!

Lol, she hates it with a passion!

Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread

Could you not heli coil the thread ?

Having said that all you need to do is make up a thread reducer on a lathe.

Just a small collar , internal bore tapped to the omp size and the o/d would need to be threaded to the size of the renault tow eye using a dye.
