Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Had the day at home today so did a bit more with the car, when I was checking it over last Sunday I spotted a little split in the outer CV boot on the passenger side.

I ordered a Febi one from partsinmotion during the week, which turned out to be as much use as tits on a fish, incorrect in every dimension.

So I resorted to a Sealey universal stretch boot from ECP which fits perfectly TBH, obviously I had to drain the 2 month old gearbox oil to fix it, I was planning on putting it back in so I caught it in a clean 3L measuring jug and strained it through a 190 micron paint filter into a new clean bucket

There were no bits of gearbox in the strainer which was nice, but I just couldn't put used oil back in, despite it having only done about 600 miles.

I had 2L left of the 5L bottle of Millers CRX gearbox oil so that went in instead

And I've ordered another litre bottle which should be here Monday/Tuesday so I'll throw that in before I drive the car for it's check over.

After @NorthloopCup made a very realistic suggestion that the damper rod could be bent at cadwell it gave me the fear so I've had that apart today too and thankfully it's perfectly straight.

I've also had a quote from a body shop that comes highly recommended, he's said based on the pictures it'll be £700-1000 to repair the damage and paint the passenger side, or in the region of £3500 for a full respray. Something I'm going to have to have a good think over which way I decide to go.

I've also ordered one of them hot glue dent pulling kits from Amazon which is worth a go for the price.. so we'll see if I can improve the dent(s) myself this weekend.

Oh, and this arrived during the week too...

To be honest the bodywork looks great as is, you’ve done a great job. If you’re still tracking it, I wouldn’t bother getting a body shop. Still cleaner than 90% of 172’s on the road! Glad its minimal.

That's the dilemma, I'll definitely get at least the side painted. I do want to get it on track again but It's 99% a road car and I want it to look nice and be something I can be proud of at a meet/show. I wouldn't want to take it anywhere like that the way it is now
