The Gaming Thread (General Gaming Jibba Jabba)

After changing things up to smash out Halo Campaign Evolved (which wasn’t too bad, but not fresh enough to keep me interested once I’d completed a run through), I’ve gone back to grinding on Grounded 2. There’s been a quite a few decent updates so it’s been good to go back to it and have new things to work through.

If you’re into to crafting/survival games it’s definitely worth a go. I played the first one a fair bit, but didn’t get anywhere near as hooked as I have with this one. I worked out I’ve already spent nearly 450 hours on it…which is quite embarrassing really… 🤦🏻‍♂️ 😂

I’ve recently dabbled with posting a few videos of my base builds on TikTok and seeing as I have very little social media presence, some have got quite a few views already.

For anyone who might be interested, this is my favourite “quirky” build:

And my main base (which is constantly changing/expanding, so this is a bit outdated now):

I can't decide what to play at the moment! I have quite a lot of newly installed games taking up SSD space and haven't started any of them! :ROFLMAO: The big three are currently:
  • Witcher 3 Remaster
  • Gears of War: E-Day
  • Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
It's like when I sit down to watch Netflix. I can't decide what to watch so end up wasting an hour flicking, then don't watch anything. 🫣

Do what I usually do, scroll through all my games and then boot up Metal Gear Solid for the 100th time 😎

Emulation is dead. Long live recompilation.

I played this on PS2 and absolutely loved it, but it felt very old when I emulated it a couple of years ago. This recomp fixes everything! Mouse and keyboard support, adjustable FOV, support for multiple resolutions and render scales. It's witchcraft!

Found this interesting.

Particularly the fact that modders are managing to reenable the locked out features on GT Sport which Sony shut down years ago.

Also now being able to play the old Forza’s on PC.

But most importantly getting the delisted Sony exclusive DriveClub working on PC is a great feat. It’s such an underrated and awesome game 👌

I believe a few here have played Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

Did you use a controller on pc or just use mouse and keyboard (if not on a console)?

I've just downloaded the game and was wondering if it's worth getting a secondhand Xbox controller.

I used a controller pal, was perfect for me.

It's in my top 3 games of all time and hands down gets the number 1 spot for soundtrack.

Brilliant, all I needed to know!

Only started it up and played for a few minutes after downloading but graphics and sound were excellent!

Just need to finish Cyberpunk first..

I used a controller but M+K is probably fine tbh

Nude Expedition mod is pretty good though 😂

Tried it on Game Pass when I had that free with a new broadband deal. Not my bag, but I can see why its been popular.

I think that's one of the good things about games overall. I thought Control was utterly brilliant, but I know people who were meh about it.

I've always been a fan of Final Fantasy games, the only thing I'm not sure about is the dodge/parry timing thing. Apparently it's quite necessary but reminds me a bit of Dark Souls games (they are definitely not for me).

Probably get a Ps5 controller, as I'll inevitably end up with one for GTA6.

I tried a couple of times to play that game and just couldn't get into it and I like turn based/jrpg style games.

Currently trying Persona 5 Royal as that's free on GP and supposed to be one of the best JRPGs ever made.

Urgh.... You were 0.02 milliseconds late for that button combo. So now you stumble, get hit for 42% of your health as a counter attack and now have go through a 2sec unavoidable animation of reloading.

Tend to stay clear things similar to this, like the plague. I don't think my RageMeter could cope.... :P

The dodge/parry timing is pretty unforgiving, but it's very satisfying when you nail it. There are mods to extend it, or you can just switch difficulty if you're getting particularly frustrated with a battle. Once you've got your eye in it's not too bad though, you just have to memorise attack patterns for different enemies.

Honestly I always hated turn based combat but this game somehow made it enjoyable.

As other have mentioned, the sound design is fantastic. Not as good as Sheepy, but it's up there 👌🏻

(You should definitely play Sheepy by the way)

A bit late to the party...

I love this game. One of my all-time favourites. My number #1 for this particular genre of game. I have played through it a few times now and would recommend the Xbox controller on PC. It is perfectly playable on K&M but I found the frustration a lot less on hard difficulties through using the controller. It was a lot easier to be consistent on the harder battles. And there are a couple that are absolute hoofw*nking bumblec*nts. Even if you try it on the easier settings.

Do you mean "Sheepy: A Short Adventure"... the pixel art game? It appears to be worthy of a look!

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll just see how I'll get on, learning attack patterns sounds awful, but if there's a story mode with relaxed play style I'm all for it.

I'm not very hardcore in games, usually play more to enjoy story and design.

I do like watching other people get absolutely punished though. When I lived together with a couple of mates, one of them played Super Meat Boy, brilliant to watch after a couple of beers.

The opening story broke me, and still does! :ROFLMAO: If you get stuck on the harder enemies, it is quite enjoyable to go back and annihilate earlier minions with your new found skills.

If you don't go with the PS controller get a G7 Pro 8k from Gamesir. It's hands down the best controller out there but obviously it won't work on PS if you plan on using it there.

With you there. I'd rather have 'fun' manipulating spreadsheet columns in Excel.

If Batman Arkham Origins was a physical media install for me - I would have thrown it in the bin. Arkham Asylum and Arkham City were brilliant - as was Arkham Knight so far (effectively the 4th title in the series). But Origins was obsessed with attack patterns and nanosecond button pressing to the point that it put me off completely. Rather than get to a boss level and think about how to defeat it - this was more of a lesson in patience of 'can I die 26 times over and still have more steps to learn?'.

Even a mate of mine who love s**t like this, gave up on it. Patience for agonising game design from a different game studio can only go so far. Thankfully, Rocksteady returned for the last installment.

i have looked at Clair Obscur Expedition 33 a few times, but just don't think it will be my cup of tea.

I am plodding through Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, it's not a bad game, but quite long winded, and ashamedly i have modded it slightly, as above the combat is pretty harsh and unforgiving, if your split second out blocking some c**t nails you with a long sword and your lose most of you health, also at the start of the game you can't swing your sword more than twice without running out of stamina, life like i know, but for casual gaming... f**k that, so now i can swing my sword loads of times but i get nailed by a long sword and lose most of my health.. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I've just put two hours in and even with keyboard and mouse, it's not as bad as I'd anticipated. Assuming these are basic, easy enemies with only a few attacks, but perfect dodging is alright, parry a bit of a learning curve.

Already lost on all the stats and upgrades but the story is going to be one hell of an emotional rollercoaster😂
