I thought the max discs had some special black coating on them that stops rust and keeps the disk looking good?
Although when I had them the special black coating didn't seem to work.
I've not tried the 1144's, but have tried the more aggressive 1177's. I currently run DS2500's - best road/track compromise in my opinion.
Your disks will be fine on DS2500's.

I found that even dropping down to a 350mm wheel there was a noticable difference. It's not all about the outside diameter - the thickness of the rim itself makes a big difference too.
I went to 350mm after driving an Audi A3 sport with that size wheel and thinking how much better it was to use.
