We do the Wilwood kits which are available in 2 different sizes for the Clio. About half a dozen cars on here are now using this kit and everybody is giving great feedback.
The 1st kit uses standard 259mm discs and the 2nd kit uses 280mm discs. PM me for prices if your interested.
Cheers...
All Clios have been called Lutecia in Japan. Even Mk1 Clios were available and you do see the odd Williams and 16v come up for sale over there.
You also see very low mileage Gt Turbos as well as all the other mundane Renault stuff.
Yep, the discs go straight onto the hub and essentially we use the same caliper for the 280mm (172) discs and 259mm Willy/16v discs. The Dynalite calipers themselves are slightly wider than the ones we supply/fit for the standard size disc.
Although, you can use the G88 discs, its not...
I assume its when you back off the throttle it pops out of gear? As Jonny says, the most likely thing will be the slop in the engine mountings causing the engine to rock and the car will jump out of gear. I dont think the tightness of the linkage will make much difference though.
It could...
If the diff was worn they generally make a whining noise that will steadily get louder as speed increases.
A failed diff will make all kinds of clunking, grating noises and also get louder as speed increases.
Could also be a wheel bearing?
Bed them in about 10 mins is the way I do it.
Get up to around 60-70mph and brake hard down to around 10mph around 3-4 times until just on the point of fade.
Then drive at around 40-50mph for around 2-3 mins without touching the brakes to let them cool and thats it. Job done.
Extremely dull cars in my experience. Boat like handling and generally un-inspiring to drive, although the upside (if you like that sort of thing) is that they are quite relaxing.
Engines sound quite good, but not very quick at all. Would come a long way down a car list for me, just behind...
Yep the prices quoted are for a pair of fronts. You dont really need to do much (if anything)to the rear. I use Mintex M1144s on the rear but also run a lot more rear bias than other Clios.
The rear brakes are fine as they are although there isnt any harm in going to a slightly harder pad if...
6 pots are an advantage when running very large discs and you have minimal clearance to the wheel. As they have 2 extra pistons, the pistons themselves can be that much smaller enabling the caliper to be shallower.
In my experience the 2 most important aspects of the brake set-up are the...
The 280mm discs are 172 items. There really is no need for expensive discs with this set-up as its so easy on discs.
I havent warped a set of discs in over 4 years with this set-up because the heat never builds up to very high levels.
Im not sure if 172 discs are available in grooved or...
I run 205/45s on the front of the rally car. Its running Willy wheels and track though.
No problems with clearance and to to be honest, no real performance advantage over 195s.
Omar, how desperate are you? We can have a chat about it at the Sprint weekend.
There are quite a few options that may be available, but nearly £1000 on brakes for a Clio is a bit excessive when you will be able to get a set-up that performs just as well for around half the price.
It all boils down to time and money in the end. But the beauty of using the B18C engine and box as a complete unit, means you also get an extremely strong box with an lsd already fitted.
I dont like drilled and/or grooved discs. They are too weak and warp and crack very easily. On top of this they are also more expensive, so not worth doing IMO.
We havent had any clearance issues with any of the 15" rims we have tried on there which includes phase 1 & 2, Willy and quite a few...
Eagle F1s every time for me. Wet weather performance is simply amazing IMO and dry grip is also good. On top of that its also a very progressive tyre with a controlled breakaway when the limits are reached. Eagle F1s also perform superbly in slightly damp conditions where a lot of other tyres...
We can do the replacement Poly E pads for £50 and Poly A pads for £60, both including delivery.
I assume the kits will fit the mk2 cars if the braking set-up and fittings is exactly the same as earlier Clios and GTTs. We have never tried this though to confirm that the fittings are identical...
Yep will fit behind Turbines no problem.
The Poly A pads really are for serious track work only as they are designed for Group A endurance car racing. Having said that, I use them on the road fine, but Poly Es are far superior from cold and a much more versatile pad on the whole. They will...
We have 2 kits available for mk1 Clios. 1 using the standard 250mm discs (which my rally car runs on) and the other using 280mm discs. Both fit under 15" wheels no problem.
The entry level (same as mine, but stronger calipers) works out at £360. This kit is designed for use with standard...
