Off to the ring end of May, bit concerned about the random bogging/misfire yesterday so will try to daily it a bit before hand to see if it rears it's head again. I had just swapped from BP to Shell, don't think that would cause it.....

Took it to the office this morning and was fine.. Not had any EML lights or anything like that yet.

Always the way. But atleast I am giving myself a fighting chance by changing all of the common issues........... is the idea, anyway.
Yeah best way as you can only take the previous owners word that things were done. And they were probably taking the word of the previous, previous, previous owners word as well. Old cars!

I lent my old BG 182 to a mate so he could come with us to the Ring and he didn't spend a penny on it, and i hadn't even started restoring it at that stage. He constantly broke down and if he wasn't in my car, we'd have fookin left him.

If it helps me sleep better at night then it's money well spent aye.

Atleast I'll have a properly maintained one in great condition. Rare these days, as you know.

Well, I still think they're bargains and worth spending money on. I bought my i30N for £32,000, kept it for 6 months and sold it back to my company for £25,000. That's depreciation for you.

Send me the old injectors and I'll ultrasonic clean them and stick some new filter baskets in if you want to keep them as spares.

More financial reaming 😵

Seemed like a good idea just to replace the lot.

Mick @ Diamond found air leaks around my inlets and map/air temp sensors so advised I changed them along with the o rings for the sensors. For the sake of £20odd it makes sense.

Exhaust leak, fixed.

I’m really surprised by the difference adding the flexi has made. It’s removed a good amount of resonance through the car. There’s also no rattles or knock anymore.

Also quieter in the cabin in general.

Car feelings like it’s fuelling better now as well.

Win win!

That’s a brilliant addition, as Ive added a engine mount insert and a polybushed exhaust mount I have a hell of a lot of vibration through the exhaust system, will look into something like this as it should cure some of it 👍

Removed the inlet and fuel rail guard.

Genuine injectors, but some look to have seen better days.

IMG_9111.jpeg

This one in particular looked pretty borked !

IMG_9112.jpeg

Shiny shiny

IMG_9113.jpeg

Fitted up.

IMG_9114.jpeg

Old plugs. Again, genuine. And not in bad condition to be fair. Replaced anyway.

IMG_9115.jpeg

New inlet gasket.

IMG_9117.jpeg

Fitted new leads and Valeo coil pack. Not sure what the one on it was, says made in England so maybe Lucas perhaps ..

IMG_9119.jpeg

Cleaned throttle body as it was pretty minging.

Off to test drive now and hopefully not break down!

What a difference!!!!

It’s like a different car. At the top end of the revs it’s not much different, but the mid range and throttle pick up is like a completely different car now! It’s soo much smoother.

Wasn’t my favourite job to do tbh, but I’m mega glad I did it. What a difference!

Looking for recommendations.

My milltek sits a bit low for my liking, what have you guys used to bring this up or adjust this?

(Old pic but still valid)

Bit of a rush to get the car finished in time to depart for the Nurburgring on Wednesday morning. I've been flat out at work and not had a great deal of time to get the last bits sorted.

This weekend to do's:

- Gearbox Oil (Redline).
- Gearbox Dog Bone.
- Lambda Sensor.

Should all be sorted Sunday.

Hopefully all the refreshing and maintenance I have done will result in a reliable trip....

Plan is to head to Reims, then on to the Ring. Me and a few mates are there for a week for some down time and have a house rented out. Should be good with a great bunch of mates, all from motorsport. The group consists of me in the Baguette, a highly modified VX220T, 718 GT4 and i20N. I am very likely in the slowest car lol. Maybe I should have taken the Aston...

Anyway, looking forward to it. Not been to the Ring since before Covid and it'll be the first time I've really leant on the Clio, so hopefully all the effort and expense will bring some smiles.

I reckon you’ll have a better time in the Clio than you would have in the Aston, plus, you’ve spent the same amount of money to upgrade this blue b*****d as the aston cost, i’d be fucked if i was taking the show pony😂

Been interested to hear how your mate gets on with the i20N.

My 172 doesn’t feel any slower than my i20N so I don’t think you will far behind him if at all.

His is mapped mind. Which will likely make a pretty big difference.

We shall see :)
