1.2t mk 3 clio whos the tech heads on here...

  Mk3 Clio dynamique SX
Guys / Gals

What is the deal with the1.2t clio - i have at th moment a replacemnet pannel filter, bailey dump valve, exhaust, im in process of fitting a boost guage.

What is the deal with the turbo, what size is it? how much boost? can it be tweequed or replaced?

All comments and dvie welcome.... :D

  Megane dci 130
All I know it isnt very big. Havnt a clue how much boost it develops but you can probably shop around and get a bigger one in the future.

Im well on my way with my TCE, ITG panel filter, (I have a bolt on open filer too and will see what the difference is) Sebring back box, powerflow from down pipe, bailey dump valve, trying to fit the boost guage now... hmm...

On the to do list is 25mm spacers, lowering, brake lines and calipers, mocal, maybe intercooler...

on the turbo it look like you can tweeque the boost (bear with me i have not owned a turbo car before) it has that dial thing... if you know what i mean, it doesnt look that small a turbo for a 1.2... but im wondering if a reggy 5 whirly gig will fit...

i would have thought ppl would know more about the TCE... i mean a 1.2t is great on milage and not bad at 100bhp... i would think guys would be looking at turbo upgrades etc etc...

Tbh mate its an awful lot of trouble and expense to do the mods your looking at doing, as well as losing lots of value from a new car. Thats why people havnt done it.

But if you want a unique car then why not go for it, its your car, money, hobbie etc..

I'd certainly be interested to see how much you can tune it up to.

Also one thing you havnt mentioned is a remap. I'd be on the look out for someone doing them as they will give the easiest gains.

Ktec have one in development so it shouldnt be long.

I have the mocal off my VTR so just need pipe work and mounting place. My very good mate ownes a garage so all work is free... i just pay for parts and usually he will get me them trade. I get a holiday too as hes in Wales... gives me a chance to tinker with the car and get out on my bike lol.

at least... the brakes will have braded hoses and drilled disks i quess. The saxo had 206gti brakes that worked well.

I dont want a fast car, one that handles well and is nippy... perfect. (im saving my recliners and Luke harnesses for later.... ) so a 1.2t suits well....

The car new was alomost £14k 07 plate with all the extras. Its worth £5-6k now.... so losing value isnt a issue lmbo.

If you want a big power then your going to have to think about chnaging the intercooler also the injectors will need upping soon i'd bet

You could have got a 197 for that money!!

TBH power modifications on the TCE seem to defeat the object of owning one inf the first place.

If i wanted big power i would have brought a second hand civic engine and dumped it in the rear of the saxo! LMBO or something else as wild as that.

My bad.. it is a £14 car new once you add all extras on - i paid nowhere near that for it.

making it a nippier better handling car doesnt defeat the object - that is the objective. A little more torgue goes a long way in a nippy little car. :)

Anyway the debate is not what do you think, or what would you buy or do... i want technical information so i can base my decissions on that.

All you need is Coils, Braided Lines when they appear on the market along with Discs and Pads and your set....If you want more grunt buy a Good IK not an Open one.....

Almost there, clutch and gear box/ratio can be looked at eventually im sure. Making it a little lighter will do for the moment.

where can i find tech info like turbo size & pressures etc etc??
Have a look for marking on the turbo itself for starts

How much power is big power to you? Injectors have there limits and safe limits.

Big power to me is 180 - 200bhp in a small chassie car like the clio - saxo corsa type. 100 - 130bhp with low down torque is enough imo.

I wont trust the greese monkeys at Renault, They can just about manage to hand me the right parts that i order for the service intervals LMBO!

I will look on the turbo, thank you, what am i looking for when i do, as i presume im not looking for T20 or T25 etc. things are never that simple

sorry for the delay in reply, ive been on Hols.

Find someone good and helpful and ask nice and you'll find a lot of helpful people working at Renault.

as for spec hum depends on what your power band etc is 1.2 is a small engine so you'd ber looking at a small turbo.

IMO though I'd be looking at a new engine for more power.

ull be able to get about 150 with out doing any major mods like internal work or changing the turbo n stuff. theres a re-map system avabile which will take it to 133 with out any problems. then if u cnage the induction kit ul get another 2 or 3 hp. change the fuel u use to around 99% octain and it'll help by 1 hp if your gonna be picky lol. changing the dump valve to a stiffer spring wil help reduce the lag and also improve the responce. the turbo produces 8 psi on overboost in 2nd gear up but is restricted to 4 psi in first. also if u change the wastegate to a adjustable then ull be able to free up a few more horses with taht as there will be a increse in boost pressure. if u dont fancy doing all of there then y dont u jsut get either the 3.0 v6 from a clio v6 sport and drop that in the back or if u really want to be differnt get the 3.5 v6 from the espace lol

the baily dump valve i have is from my mates transit cossy! lso the spring is fairly stiff already. Who does this remap?? thats more like it thank you for the info!

Anyone with a rolling road and the Facilitys to do Remaps.....comon sense is it not ??

You may let any fudgepacker play with your car, i tend not to though.

Do you know which "rolling road that has the Facilitys to do remaps...... comon sence is it not", that has delt with this car and mapped it to 133 previously?

can we keep it constructive please.

  White Sti Hatch
Na i dont let any "fudgepacker" near my car mate so dont try start your shite.....

No i dont know who as delt with a TCE before but i can guarantee you any reputable Mapping company can get it to that figure if its even possible...

  Mk3 Clio dynamique SX
imo any remapping company can ruin a car really easily. Id rather deal with a company that has remapped the car beofore or has relative experience. i.e Power Engineering are great for fords and jap cars, not so good with french or european cars.

This is why i asked the quesion who delt with the 133bhp car.

there's also a easier way to remap the tce engine with a plug in. its a unit that simply plugs in in-between the spark plugs and the main ecu harness. ill try to find the name of the company u can get them from. there quite pricey at about 300 quid but they do work as i have had 1 fitted to mine before. this method also means that no warranty will be voided as it takes less than 10 min to install and even less to take it out and the ecu doesn't no that its there. if any 1 is interested in this message me and ill be more than happy to help you out. its the easiest way to free up a few horses with out doing any major moding. when i had it fitted to mine i took it to my local garage that has dyno equipment and remapping facilities and had a before and after test. it was putting out 95.9 hp in standard. 105.2 hp with waste-gate adjustment. and also with the additional ecu it put out 139.1 with standard dump valve that leaks like hell atm as the spring is worn out

Hense why you dont go to a Ford/Jap specialist to get your French Tart remapped...........

Do you mean its like "blue fin" for fords? Is it a piggy back chip? What companies did you deal with?

  Clio lll Dynamique SX TCE
peek torque in standard was 143 nm, with wastegate mod was 173.5 nm and with the ecu upgrade is was 192.1 nm at 3900 rpm. plently of pulling power if you ask me. especially as its a 1.1(2) lol

  White Sti Hatch
Not bad for a small engine and a tiny turbo. Anyone know what the Engine/Gearbox is good for ??

for a small engine thats impressive!

the gear box will handle up to 140 ish before having trouble with oil n stuff. had mine at 128 couple of days ago and it was only doing 5 k on the clock too. it still runs as sweet as anything too

i think for it to last, we cant wind it up past 130bhp by gearbox is a little sticky when i give it the beans and double clutch.
