172 -> 182 should I do it?

  Mégane RS 225
I got pretty temptating offer from local Renault dealer.

My 172 is in good condition, cambelt just changed, 2002, approx. 50K on the clock.

That 182 is M.I.N.T, 2004, 25K on the clock, few extra luxuries that my 172 don't have (cruise control etc.), 1 owner.. no cup packs though.

Both cars are almost standard.

Is it really worth it? What are main differences between these models? 10 bhp and dual exhaust, anything else? Wider track?

Is the 182 much better to drive (of course i'm gonna try it first, just want some opinions)..

Or should I use that extra money to mod my 172? I can probably get an exhaust, intake and remap for that money, maybe headwork too..

Thanks for help!

dont bother if not got cup packs imo, spend the money on yours, and you just had your cambelt done as well so imo dont.

Can i ask what they offered you?
I went with mine, on an 02 plate with 23k on.
The 182 was a 55plate, cup packs and 8k on the clock up for 11k.
They wouldn't give me a price untill i totaly agreed that i was going to have the car.
How could i agree with out knowing what they were going to give me for mine...nobs!

By the way, the answer to your ? is i would. thier is nothing else on the road in my price range that i like more.

mij29,

I don't think it is useful to compare dealers offers because I live in Finland.

Cars are cheaper in England. :(

For example new 197 costs here 32000€ which is £22000, so used 182's are between £12500 - £15500.

I'd stick with your 172 if the 182 hasn't got the cup packs tbh . When i went from my 172 to 182 with cup packs i did notice that it handled better and gripped the road better , obviosly part of that is down to the Michelin Exaltos which imo are better than the contis fitted on the 172 .

Depends, I like to get a better car everytime I change (although I didn't have much say last time so hence 1500cc's to play with..).

172 to a 182 seems like a bit of a sidestep rather than an upgrade, and it's not as if your car is dead. If you just want to change for a newer model fair enough. I wouldn't though.

Don't bother if the 182 hasn't got the Cup packs and you haven't had any problems with your 182. For all you know the 182 is a "Friday" car and has been returned to them !
