182 Cup v Evo 7 !!!!!!

  Peddled device
No...not performance wise but running costs !!!!

I would love an Evo 7 in yellow so checked out costs etc.It is f***ing unbelievable!!

In two years of having my Cup its done 10k and had one main dealer service which was £196.The brakes are good, hardly any tyre wear and maybe about 36mpg average. Now thats pretty cheap for a 6.5 second car l think.Insurance is £580 per year and tax £190.

Now the Evo...! It needs a service every 4500 miles with fluid changes etc so that could be around £350 each time.Fuel will be around 18mpg so very expensive as it needs super unleaded.Tyres are not cheap and as l would no doubt razz it a bit the brakes, tyres and fuel are going to cost.Insurance would be £850 (not bad really if its a UK car) but the tax is baffling.Even on the MLR they are saying thats it could be £185 or £400 per year!!!
Add in that to get a good 'un l would have to find an extra £3.5k to £4k to buy it and its a mega cost !

But l still want one ;)

are u trying to talk urself out of this here.............do it, as long as u can afford it tho

The service every 4500 miles (not the big service) Is usually an oil change (I think) Which is less than a ton.

I'm not saying that they are cheap to run by any means, bit I think that often they are madeout to cost a lot omre to run than they actually do. Ant will be the man to speak to, he breeds them !

I think that in the next 12 months the markets going to be flooded with Evo's etc that people don't want to pay a fortune to run them. Its this tax thing thats going to make a few sell....but that means cheaper Evo's...and some are cheap now!

Exactly, reason why I'm considering selling mine

Running an evo now is way beyond my reach

I hate to use that old cliche "if you can afford to buy it you can afford to run it........"

Well to be honest mate if its heart stopping performance that doesnt require a service everytime you slap the go pedal then why not look for a 2002 S3 or somthing to that tune?

I suppose its alright saying that but you really cant beat an Evo!

I think in 12 months time you'll be able to get a mint Evo 6 for around £8.5 k....thats a lot of car for the money.Could be that a mint Evo 7 will be around £9.5 :)

Spend the money saved on the car on fuel etc ;)

i think if you want a performance car, for the future, with the Tax, petrol prices etc, people need to start thinking small and light. Elise's, Exige, Caterhams etc are the future of affordable performance motoring in my opinion!

If you have to ask and think about it, you can't afford it.

If it's an imported VII, it will carry a lower tax band due to the car not being subject to Euro emissions regs. FTW.

Buy it by all means if you like rust after 2 years and the build quality of a Kia Getz.

I get them into work all the time for rust and paint defects, especially around that awful fitted spoiler. The thing reeks of cheap tat and I was seriously dissapointed as it's a car I've always wanted. I'm not saying Renault are any better, but I never paid over 20K for my car.

edit: They're pretty awesome to drive though...

I think if you had a budget of 20k for an audi say then you could afford to buy a 12k evo and run it safely without breaking the bank

Just get somthing like a GT-Four. The ST205's are suddenly seriously cheap. Like £3k cheap. Not bad for something that can make 400bhp without too much fuss. They look good, and they're grp 17 ins... :D
