185 bhp 172 ? Happy rollers?

  clio 172 phase 2
A mate of mine has a 172 monaco he has a rr print out for 185 bhp , the car only has simple breathing mods cat back exhaust and panel filter , also runs like its remaped but no proof of this ... Would you say that figure is a bit false ? Jut a bit curious as ive seen a few 172 on here with itbs , rs2 inlet setups and they only fetched 190 .

I expect people will say its a bit generous, however there are genuinely good engines out there that do produce these results on stock/minor mods.

It would not be the first "standard" car into the 180s mate, its amazing how much these engines can vary by.

Millerin on here has over 180 on surrey rolling road, and a peak torque over 160, his standard car was a match for ours with the RS2 when we gave it a blast down the dualy.
Before the RS2 went on ours his was miles faster than ours, both "standard" engines.

Cam timing correct etc, genuinely no obvious differences, its just weird how much they vary by, Ive been involved in lots of other engines for the last 20 or so years and have never seen that sort of variety before!

When I first knew Mike from MWM years ago and he was telling me about these variations I just point blank refused to believe it could be as much as he was saying, but now I have a lot more experience of them I have to agree that it really is.
