nutty car, just got a pm from ben about all this work - serious piece of kit.

really considering it myself, but im tempted by VTEC and Scooby Power.

i have a scoob...........dont bother if you want to do it right.

A strong engine isnt cheap.

VTEC, you know my opnions and developments on that front. ;)

Another update for you guys.

The bodies have arrived, finally!

2 trumpet lengths to experiment with, if i can fit the longer ones in time they they will go, but that is alot of rad modifications and fabrication.

The car will also have barometric compensation meaning he can drive to below sea level in finland (or wherever it is in europe that is sub sea level) to the top of the alps and not have any fueling problems unlike other TB setups.

The cylinder head has also been fully ported and roughed out, all required shapes are complete. I know it looks rough, but the diff a little cleanup can make is astonishing. The fact that flow is only minorly increased shows you how little polishing has to do with anything.

Exaust Before

After

Fully developed chamber pre -tidy up, surface quality does however have a big impact here as you need the right texture to generate just the right amount of carbon crystal buildup and thickness to help the burn, but this is also not polished. Also note the valve seats have been radiused and they will be running a single seat cut, not 3 angles.........a proper variable radius seat will outflow angles no problems, but they are so labour intensive. Takes about 10 mins per seat, which means about 3 hours just to do the seats!

Point me to the post baby!

Ask and ye shall recieve!

Final port and chamber work is done, the head only needs skimming after the chambers have been measured so that face will look perfect. And the guides will be replaced just before the single 45 degree seat is cut as the seats are hand cut radius right now.

YUM, this is a det free zone!

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/10/web/322000-322999/322115_139_full.jpg

Note inlet port wall texture and valve seat radius.........where 3 angle seats cost between 2-5 quid each, this is considerably more and contributes to a total cost of about a grand for this cylinder head.

Symmetry is ultra important!

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/10/web/322000-322999/322115_141_full.jpg

Exhaust ports are a VERY comlex shape with many ridges, humps, radiuses and pockets to make them flow properly. Traditionally people just grind down the exhuast guide bosses and make it look like the second pic, although it looks nicer, it flows less due the the rapid expansion of gas right after the seat....this also flow great in the reverse direction, which is really bad.

Inlet port, tecture looks squibby because Renaults castings arent great and you find carbon and all sorts of crap pitted in there.

And thats that!

Now just the freaking build to do in a week.

not long now mate, surely, so will she be fitted and running for you within 6 days clean?

Lets get a meet organised or something, i need to see this thing move!

Ben - will mehdi need to wear the head in or should he be able to give it a good ragging as soon as she starts?

Cheers

Danny

Danny it should be ready to run already as its spending most of Friady on the rollers on will have a power run on Saturday. Should be ready for Saturday but hitting a few problems in terms of fitting longer trumpets which is what i want, but time/space is running out!

Dannt, if only you knew how much had to be done in 6 days! lol.

Hoepfully it can all be done as i want to fit the longer trumpets as i dont want to drop easy power and torque simply because the rad is in the way, however, if things come to it, itll be more important to get it running rather than fit the longer trumpets, which can be done at a later date.

So is it not having a shallower radiator put in or is the standard radiator being dropped down on the subframe.
