AcidicDavey's Liquid Yellow 182!

Lovely car mate nice to see you giving it the love it deserves and needed! Love the touch with leaving the note i managed to buy my project car doing the same thing! It looks awesome in them pictures you just posted!!
Cheers mate, I was genuinely shocked when I got a response as it pissed down not long after I put the note on his (my) screen.
Lovely! I think I need one of those keyrings now :tongueclosed:
Ta, I got my keyring from eBay, paid 99p including P+P from Bulgaria!
This thread makes me love LY. Never really a fan normally
I'm pleased to convert you :)
^^^ blasphemy
Some people eh? :p
Does scrub up well doesn't it  great pics!

Need to take the rear plate off tho and straighten it lol!

Cheers, it certainly does scrub up nicely, the bright paint disguises most of the sins but the front and rear bumpers have some minor marks and annoyingly the bonnet must have been resprayed as the paint is a slightly lighter shade, obviously not done the 2 stage spraying quite right, oh well.

Don't you worry you, the damn plate will be sorted, might mask around it so I don't put it back on at the same wonk haha

I think the plate is fine, it's the car that's wonky[emoji38]. It's certainly a head turner and a shame there aren't more ly ones about for us all to enjoy.

To be fair I'm quite a wonky chap so I probably should have a wonky car hahaha!

😂 was just kidding tho, car looks awesome buddy

Needs to be sorted, got some more sticky pads, (hateful things) so I'll reapply it when I've got a second pair of eyes to hand. Tempted to put it on with Velcro tbh so then I can guarantee it's right but knowing my luck it'd get nicked!

Anyway, finally sorted the exhaust blow, turns out when the previous owner put the decat pipe back on after its' MOT in June rather than sealing it together properly they opted to wrap it in that exhaust tape crap under the rear clamp and the bolts had loosened, less than 2 bloody weeks and it started blowing, deer oh deer!
Well it's sealed nicely now, probably have to do it again in another 2 weeks haha!

It's not always pretty, oh and don't worry there is an axle stand under here too hidden by the front wheel, I'm not that stupid!

Also, on Saturday I replaced the climate control panel. Got a non textured one as I can't do with the stickiness!

Dead easy to change, just remove the radio and mounting cage, undo 2 T20 screws from behind, pull off trim in between radio and climate panel. Also remove the lower dash panel below the climate controls by just pulling up and sliding it out. Now just push the climate panel towards the bulkhead and try and shimmy it out. Only the 2 large connectors on the back and it's out! Dead easy!

It was letting the interior down a bit I feel

I've put a different head unit in since as I don't need a bluetooth enabled unit as I'm an old fashioned sort of lad so put in one I've currently got 'in stock', usually have a few to chose from off the shelf.

I've got some new trim to put inside after I do something with them and I've got a new gear knob to go on, ordered a new gear gaiter too as why not eh if I'm changing the knob?

This evening I tackled another small task being creating and applying the missing front bumper inserts, had some black vinyl lying around.

Easy to swap really, took less than 30 minutes going carefully. Makes such a difference

Don't need a bluetooth jobby me so that sold on eBay for over £55 after costs, result! (As this thread continues you'll all soon realise I'm a tight arse!)
The stereo I put in still has dual AUX and got it for free from a 205 GTi I once had, I removed the stereo from that car as the previous owner had removed the speakers but left the stereo in still connected, go figure?

Great improvement so far

Cheers mate, they'll keep coming

So, since I last wrote an update I tried to clean the interior further using some upholstery cleaner I found in the boot of my 850 R I got (that boot was full of useful tat when I got it, result! See, told you I was a tight arse  ).

It's getting there but I think the car could do with some new seats really as the alcantara on the bases isn't great. I've sanded away all the bobbles by dragging well erh Sandpaper across them but as said the bases have had too many years of bums shuffling on them and don't feel as plush as they should!

The car was rather filthy under the bonnet, we attacked it with what we had, 4 microfibres and some detailing spray and that was all.
Here are some before and afters.

Yeah that's a genuine one straight from my local dealer (Callow Marsh), part number is 8200 071 449. £14.71 including VAT omes complete with that lower fitting frame. They had to order it in and wait for 2 days.

Mine had been glued in as someone had broken them clips by trying to remove it wrong.

Anyway, lets start talking about those centre caps that I started showing a few episodes ago.

I stripped the paint off them and I have a confession, I also stripped some dash trims annnnnnnd ruined them! Bugger! I was using Nitromors and thought I'd try it on them, they were nasty and well they're even nastier now lol, oh well.

So back to the caps...

After removing the badges.

After 3 coats of acrylic primer...

Caps 3 by AcidicDavey, on Flickr

I then went to sand them down with some wet and dry and give them another couple of coats and repeat.

Now, at this point I had to decide what I wanted to do with the diamonds. I wanted them original but some plonk had badly painted them matte black. So I took them to the dealers and sadly they can't order them despite them have a clear part number on them, they said they could only order the whole cap which were £16 something each plus vat so sod that! As I couldn't leave them as they were I could either paint them black nicely or be brave, I choose to be brave...
28514721671_7b4d5759c9_b.jpg
Cap Badges 1 by AcidicDavey, on Flickr

Back to the caps themselves. After flatting down the primer again it was ready for some colour. Now, I had no idea what colour the wheels have been painted so this was some guess work, I had some Ford Graphite Grey on the shelf and to be fair, it's pretty damn close, a touch darker perhaps.

So, 3 or 4 coats of the Ford Graphite Grey then I 'wet lacquered', 3 coats or so.

They turned out great, I'm pretty crap with the rattle cans but I've learnt from previous mistakes it would seem, these are good!

So, the badges. You might have guessed what 'brave' colour they've turned, yes, glow in the da...- I mean Liquid Yellow!

Painting LY I hear is rather difficult, again amazingly (for me) these have turned out well. The paint was very runny but managed to get it on ok :)
Again, pleased :)

I applied 3 coats of the LY base, then 3 of the sparkly lacquer and finally 3 of some clear lacquer. About 30 minutes between coat types. The colour match is perfect! Sadly though I just can't photograph LY very well!

Would rather them in the original chrome but have to work with what I've got.

Fitted in this pic, the colour difference isn't representative, you can hardly tell the difference with the grey really.

Looks bloody awesome in this photo - colour is amazing! Time for spacers and lowering springs...?
Cheers mate.
This car does deserve that treatment but it drives so well as it is currently on Eibach Pro-kit springs I'm a bit worried about spoiling it, my 172 on Apex springs was awful compared to this one! I do keep mulling it over.

I may get some spacers then decide if I need to lower it... I do keep a lookout for coilovers etc!

Sorry didn't realise it was on Eibach's! Heard good things about them, so I'd be tempted to stick with them

I know Cooksports have more of a drop, which is what I've got, and I'd say you'd be more than welcome to have a ride in my car to see what you think of the ride - but the route I'm going it isn't going to be smooth, comfy ride for long lol

They're the black Eibachs, the ones that provide the smallest drop, basically cup spec height.

Just read your thread update, I think if I'm going to take you up on your offer of a ride it better be soon :p

These cars are definitely about performance and handling over looks though, I'd much rather something which looked too high but handled great then something which super low but handled like rubbish!

Hahah yeh it'll all be changed over the next couple of weeks, not sure it's the right decision on a daily which I do 40 miles a day in, mostly over rubbish country roads - but guess we'll find out soon enough!

Dead easy to fit, a cable tie (which is supplied) secures it to the gearstick and it obviously just clips to the console. Simply slide the rear section into place and push down the front clip by the ashtray. It's obvious when it's in your hand.

And cheers, I'm not convinced yet on the caps!

Just be careful, the clips aren't the strongest.

Not convinced by the centre caps tbh. Sort of cheapen the wheels, imo
I tend to agree with you if I'm honest, I'd much prefer original diamonds but these'll do until I can sort something out.
The centre caps look good, maybe the bullets need matching though.
I quite like the bullets to be honest but I'll listen to any suggestions?
Maybe they'd look better if they were colour matched to the wheels? But saying that the text is colour coded to the wheels which is why I think they work?
One thing I can say is that I don't want any yellow on them, that much I'm sure of.
So much love for this! Keep it up
Cheers, I'll try to keep you entertained ;)

Over the weekend I finally fully detailed my little french fancy

All in all a very long but worthwhile task! About 12-15 bloody hours!

My process for those that care...
- Wash with Bilt Hamber Auto Wash Shampoo using two bucket method and two Kent 2-in-1 Wash Mitts,
- De-tar'd using Autosmart Tardis (first time using this, good stuff but quite agressive too!),
- Spray car generously with Iron Fallout Remover,
- Clay car (one panel at a time, constantly folding the clay over to keep it clean) with Bilt Hamber Soft Auto Clay and soapy water as a lube,
- Dry each panel with a waffle weave microfibre towel.
Now ready to polish, I bought a DAS-6 Pro last year and it hasn't seen much use sadly but there we go. I'm using the Sonus SFX 4 part polish and pad kit.
- First then is Sonus SFX-1 Restore Polish with the Restore pad. This car's paint overall has clearly been cared for, even after the basic wash it fells smooth but there were some areas that needed correcting.
- Then SFX-2 Enhance Polish with the enhance pad.
- Guess what, now I applied SFX-3 Final Finish Polish with the Final Finish Pad.
- Once the 3 polishes were used then time for the SFX-4 Paint Sealant with the softest pad. You have to leave it on for some time before buffing it off. I put on an extra coat the following day.
- Tyres dressed with Simoniz Tyre Gel, fairly good stuff and good value, only a tiny bit is needed and the tyres look great for a long time.
- Exhaust tips polished with Autosol Metal Polish.

And there we have it, a lovely shiny car and incredibly smooth to go with it!

The paint was in no way bad, just a few light marks as mentioned, worst was some scratching below the passenger window from presumably damn people holding their arm out of the window!

As you have seen, the car was quite shiny anyway.

Lost a rear tyre to a screw, went to get it repair but it turned out the inside wall was missing a chunk as if it had struck a kerb, must have been one of them pesky potholes! Had to put on a cheap s**t tyre as a temp fix.

I have finally finished them dash trims that I was painting, they have turned out great but I screwed up the sticker application (surprise surprise!), oh well. They serve as a reminded to what colour car I'm driving :p

What do you guys think?

The car looks no different outside, not a lot I want to do to it that I'm prepared to pay for lol

I almost had some explaining to do after I managed to get the seat stuck like this, the reclining handle snapped when I went to put it back, luckily I had a spare seat to nick some bits off!

I sometimes buy a car to clean up and flog on (which is why I have a few as I buy them then don't want to sell them as I fall for them lol), last month I had a nice MX5 which turned out nice so have a pic.
