BF4 isn't all about the kills. You need to do other stuff, resupply/heal team mates, capture/destroy objectives etc. Compared to later levels the earlier stages are a piece of piss to rinse through. Don't forget you get activate boosts that you have acquired from Battle Packs too which boost the XP earned by 25%/50% for an hours play time.
I realy liked the first gun you get in the assualt class, my most used weapon I think.
I'll be on a few times this week if anyone want's to add/join in any games im in then feel free Rhino16v (I don't have premium though so don't have access to all of the extra map packs)

Na there's no perks or anything, you get to chose a specialisation though, when you go to edit a class it's down near the bottom. The one I usually have is the defence specialisation, defence goes up 10% when hit in the chest, suffer 50% less suppression and there's a couple more bits but I can't remember. Normally small things like sprint speed increased by 10%, 50% more ammo etc.
Note you need to be in a squad to get the full benefits from this, the little green bar above the minimap shows you how much squad points you have, once that bar is filled you are able to use all the things in your specialisation at once, so when it's only a quarter full for example you may only get the speed increase, not the ammo, chest armour etc.

As Liam says, you really need to join a squad to get the most benefit of perks. If you can, pick a class and stick with it for a while. You'll die a lot initially, but you'll soon start to get the jist of the class and where it's unique abilities can be really useful. BF4 (above all other BF games before imo) has a very, very high proportion of engineer players. Their class drinks ammo and as seen on this thread alone, many people complain that squad mates do not drop ammo enough. Get the ammo bag as soon as you can and dish out that ammo - you'll get points in no time.

Yep engineers with carbines is awesome if someone is stocking you full of ammo - it's a lethal combo!
You have a fair bit of BF experience under your belt though which is a major benefit. Although in saying that I've had it since release and I'm level 27. I've missed pretty much every double xp weekend though as I mainly get to play evenings midweek
If you are not in a decent squad then play Conquest, you can just about get on playing alone in that (although it is much better playing as a team), plus if you capture/defend plenty of positions you'll start to level up pretty sharpish.
Just don't go all COD/Rambo running around hoping to come face to face with someone, get a few shots off and kill them then run off somewhere else. It simply doesn't work like that in BF. (although I do tend to end up doing that a fair bit myself lol)
I think I posted it in here quite a while back but my very first go on BF4 I joined a game right at the end, got in a tank, drove it for about 30 secs, didn't kill anyone or achive anything, got blown up and died. Game ended and I leveled up lol

This is true, going for objectives and the like ranks you up massively.
I'll check later but I hope not I had about 5 including a 100% and a 50% one!!!
Are the new maps available for 360 Premium members yet does anyone know?

Loving the reboot of the old maps, they have done so much more with them, Can take the crane down in Gulf of Oman, Blow up the tower (don't be under it when it goes) and now have a huge wall on Caspian Border, Metro now has more than one route between the flags and what I saw of Operation Firestorm it plays really well and great fun blowing up the oil lines. 10/10 for me.

Basically I found out why it was taken ages to rank up...it was because it wasnt ranking up. I thought it was weird the guns i'd already unlocked disappeared.
Apparently its a common issue? I had to connect to around 5 different games before it would rank and give me my guns.

For premium members only (I think) if you go to the store you can unlock all DMR and secondary weapons for free. Finally got the magnum - that with a site on was awesome in BF3.
Only had a go on Oman and Firestorm last night - wasn't massively keen on Oman (I never was) but Firestorm was good fun. Looking forward to trying Metro again - although I thought Locker was an improvement over that anyway.

The best skill system was the one in Halo 3 as you had a level and a ranking - so each game mattered. You have a skill level on BF4 but it doesn't really mean much in a game - would be good to have some ranking system which used it more (unless I'm mistaken it doesn't play a role - I could be wrong as it seems like a missed opportunity if so!)

^^ I swear battlepacks give you attachments for guns you never use. My Type 88 LMG is fully tricked out but I have never used the darn thing!
Quite often the case yes, but then sometimes you try a new gun out and are pleasantly surprised you've already got a few bits on them.
I am level 56 and have only used about 7 or 8 guns so far, I tend to use one until it's maxed out then start a new one which has a totally different profile so I've got a gun for most situations.
I still need to upgrade a decent sniper rifle but I haven't found them very useful when playing Conquest and tend to use a DMR instead

There are so many things they could do to assist flyers. At the moment only the Littlebird is effective at doing anything air to ground. The attack chopper is a flying barge and just gets pelted by the MAA/Stingers/Stealth Jet etc. ECM/Flares feel absolutely useless and getting hit by a missile then nose diving into the ground are commonplace. So much rage!
Below radar would be great to bring back. But another huge problem are the maps, there is nowhere to hide or run too if you are getting mullered. Except spawn I guess.
But I hear anti helicopter mines are going to be introduced to make it just that bit harder for anyone that wants to fly haha.

Whats 3rd person mode? Hardcore you just explode into a burning wreck irrelevant of flares, ecm, fire extinguishers or even mid flight repairs.
Vehicles are stupidly weak reloading takes far too long.
A 3 use system before reloading for air defence would be brilliant imo
