I also removed the gearbox mount cage and spider cage to make sure the spindle nut and bolt was fully tightened.

Annoyingly a previous owner had snapped this bolt in the turret. I'll be trying to weld a nut onto the back to remove this otherwise it's drilling it all out.

This is as far as I got as it came dark really quickly. One of the negatives of working outside...
I too have discovered that bolt has snapped but am unsure of how to remove the gearbox mount?

You can get away without removing it as you can just grind the captive off the back through the wing then nut and bolt it unless it's moved.

There's 3 bolts down there that need removing to access the main mount if your 4th is snapped. Shouldn't need to remove the gearbox mount itself.
If you want to remove it put weight on it through the gearbox and tap it with a hammer

Popped over to see @bloke last weekend to have some black series steering rack and rear beam bushes fitted to complete the Polybush package throughout the car.
It's something I wouldn't have wanted to attempt on the floor due to access and it being a pain in the arse! Thankfully all went well, and all the rear beam bolts came out with no problems at all.

The original bushes weren't too bad, but after 128k I'm glad they've been replaced with something more hard wearing.

Carl also removed the captives that were damage on the undertray and replaced them all round so I no longer have to mess around with cable ties! Thanks again mate!

After mentioning the knocking issues i've been having carl also helped narrow it down to being the topmounts having a very small bit of play in them, but whether the bearings have gone or they just need washers under them is not known. It was also found that the front carrier has worn on the slider pins, so rather than just in out movement it has some up and down movement too. This is causing a knocking noise to occur which is most likely contributing to it overall.
I'll be looking to buy one in very good condition or buy new, depending on price. Thankfully it's only on one side, but I wonder if it's been down to the sliders being seized last year when I bought the car and just wearing out. I was going to try packing it with grease first to see if it made a difference.

Another job I had been meaning to get around to was fitting my climate control panel from a non sport. This is identical colour wise to the rest of the trim pieces and was a relatively easy changeover. Much happier with how it looks, as the old one was all chewed up as they all seem to get in the sports. Much easier to keep clean, and the display even looks clearer than my old one!

Only thing left to change is the satnav top, but as these were never in nonsports, they dont exist! It's not so bad anyway, so i'll leave it.

Next thing I finally finished after a bit of messing around with resistors (Maplins, say no more!) I got it fitted. Works perfectly and happy with how it looks! Bit of a squeeze getting all the wires in and the horn into the boss but I got there.

I have bought an EVOL dogbone to replace the polybushed one I'm running at the minute to hopefully remove some more play, then tomorrow I'm heading up to Keltec for my flange cutting off and either a new flange welding in, or a vband and flexi.

Spotted a cup whilst out bowling, but my car hasn't been washed in ages and is in a state! Found a thin layer of sand/salt behind the petrol flap. No wonder they rust!

Good luck trying to find a say nav screen from any Clio, they’re getting even worse to find now[emoji23] Or can you get one from a Megane or anything like that?

I mean the surround part is tacky plastic. The top dash centre part if that makes sense haha. I'm not fussed it's not really a big panel so not too scratched

Oh aye I’ve got ya! Can’t you use glue remover or isopropyl alcohol to remove the sticky?

I’ll test it on one of my panels if you want and that way you can just strip it off

Great progress again mate, do you find it's a lot harder/stiffer now when driving with all these black series bushes - bet the handling is much improved however! Nicely done with the climate control panel too!

To be honest, it's not that overbearing! It's fairly hard, but I think that's probably down to solid engine mounts/topmounts and bilsteins rather than all the bushes being black series.

Makes sense that! Yes was forgetting for a sec you have the Bilsteins, that would make it harsher anyway!

Took the trip over to Keltec today to get a quote on removing my manifold flange and getting a vband and flexi welded in but they were pretty expensive so I didn't bother in the end. I just got them to buzz up the backbox brace as I had noticed when doing the polybushes that the welds had cracked.

I managed to buy some very good condition exhaust trims and gave them a few coats of satin black a while back. My old ones were melted and broken so these freshened up the rear nicely.

I then spent around 5 hours machine polishing the car with some heavy cut Menzerna compound to remove some of the swirls in the paint. I'll be looking into some different compounds and pads to use in the future as I would like to remove some deeper marks but for now it's better!

I took lots of pics and they look the same as the last ones because that's where i wash my car. Need to get into some new environments!

i used the menzerna when i used to do a lot of ally polishing, was bloody good stuff.

Are you using the Meguiars or similar microfibre cutting pads with the DA?

They'll give you the best cut, a lot more than foam.
I've no idea which ones I have! My mum got this as a package with the compounds and da from cleanyourcar. Had orange, blue and yellow foam pads. Do you have a link to the best ones for cutting?

Looks cracking that mate. Good job. Desperate to get mine back out. Tempted to book a week of work and get my dad round (retired mechanic) and blitz it in a week. Haha.

Sooooo. On tidying my DA away I just realised I've been using it on setting 1 all this time. 😂

I've used a rotary with speed settings before but just presumed the DA was constant. Hahaha 😂😂

No wonder it took me forever... going to buy some decent pads and try it on 5 next time instead. I did wonder why I was having to go over the same area multiple times lol

Live and learn! I'm happy to say when something goes wrong or I do something stupid if it saves someone else doing the same as me in the future.

Appreciate the kind words mate! Really want a wheel refurb as one of the 2118s has a slight pink twinge to It, proper odd.

No problems, wheels do look great, I keep looking at 2118's but not managed them yet, maybe this year :smile: would you stay anthracite or go a different colour?

I'm almost tempted to buy some brand new ones and sell the 2118s on as they seem to have a high used resale price! Might be cheaper than me getting them refurbed... I would have to factor in tyre removal and refitment.

They do hold their value well, the anthracite are what I would go for if I was getting some, like you say they don't seem to be that much more expensive new. Think my Williams wheels cost me about £450 to buy rough and refurb, luckily I had some tyres all ready to go on otherwise it get's expensive quick
