BIGASH/FF-Racing X85 Clio Cup Racer Project



Sorry for the lack of updates as i've had family issues as my mother almost died but we got her to the hospital in time to get here into the operating theatre.

Anyway i managed to get back on it again and finished of the inlet ports and look into valve shrouding more, just need a old head gasket if anyone has one? also just need to know what the bore size will be when done?

Thank you, This head will be the most modified 172 head i've ever done. I have a few combustion chamber modifications to do too so i look forward to see what it will do.

To unshroud the valves I assume you mean?

James will be able to get one no dramas off one of us. Not sure if I have one but if not mike@mwm or dan@sjm will have.
 
Finished of the exhaust port today and started the combustion chambers

Its hard to tell in this photo whats been modified but anyone with a keen eye will see whats been done

You might see that the combustion chamber has been flattened in between the valves, a bit the the inlet valves near the top and around the bottom of the valves too

CNC heads don't do much to the combustion chamber. I have one of there heads sat here in my workshop.

The head im doing for BIGBASH is tailaroed for his spec. CNC ones are just copy's if the same head over and over again.

Is this to go with the solid lifter and cam kit I sold him , if so it will be interesting to see how it turns out , is it going short stroke / larger bore or staying standard ?

Not yet no Ian. Just doing a quick build to get some nice numbers and will then see if I want to do big engine build. If I did then yes would be long rods, steel crank etc :)
No this is just for a fairly basic spec temp engine I think Ian.

Is lee going to lob the donkey round too?

Well I'm not sure how I'm going to beat a trackday like that ever again. Was one of if not the best days I've ever had in the Clio. The car was faultless and got a real hammering all day. It felt like I was on track most of the day!

On arrival I was quite dubious as it was nearly all GT race cars and I could see me sitting with my indicator on all day. This didn't end up being the case and managed a good split of being overtaken to overtaking.

Got lots of videos including when Tom Chilton was in the car, only the last session of the day the cameras battery had died so no footage which is a shame as it was probably the best session.

Epic day and I wish they could all be like that :)

If Carlsberg made track days....

Did look like an awesome day mate. Some lovely motors there. Bet it was good fun being the under dog and actually over taking a few cars!

Would have come down to watch if work wasn't so s**t at the moment!

You just had a relatively basic engine in with a gripper diff, or did I understand it all wrong?
