Clio 172 1400cc Supercharged

Right then bare with me while I give a quick explanation as why I would want to use a 1400cc bottom end a supercharge it in a 172.
I currently run my Ph1 172 in the Midland Hillclimb Championship in Class A1 (Road Going Under 2000cc)
Under the regulations you can fit a supercharger or turbo charger but that will bump you into the next class A2 (Road Going Over 2000cc) and then you are up again very quick 600+ bhp 4WD machinary.
The way they calculate cc for you car when you running force induction is to multiply your cc by 1.4, so you can run a 1400cc block and super charger and still be under 2000cc and stay in class A1.
So I was considering trying this out but wondering what kind of bhp and torqure figures you could achieve from a supercharged 1400cc block?
Will be used for very limited miles as hilllimbing is on quite short under 1 mile runs so pushing plenty of boost wouldn't be problem.
Open to all comments, cost wise happy to spend a descent chunk of cash on it if it's feasible.

I'm not sure on a Renault 1.4 but I thought some people with 1.4 k-series turbo'd them to around 200-220bhp? Was a lot of money thought, i.e. £10k.....

On a lower budget, 150-160 on a 1.4 k series was achievable.

You'd be better off spending the money (£5k+) on a hi spec f4r motor and any spare cash on some custom ratios and diff for the box.

  ph1 172... Sold:(
Darren. Do you remember at Chatsworth a few years back we were looking at that sprint spec bmw 4 pot on a stand that had a massive turbo on the side of it and I'm sure that was 1400cc... the guy said it was pushing a thousand horses.

I think I do - weren't there several engine variants on the same stand at the time?

What about that rotary'd Mk.2 Escort? Don't the Mazda lumps max out in size to about 1.3litre in standard form? Boosted to hell, they might make a good alternative to this project!

VW's twincharged engine is probably worth a shout, 1.4 with a supercharger and a Turbo, in the Seat Ibiza it's knocking out 180BHP just in stock form.
Plenty of scope to raise the boost and get more power.

Could you sleeve up a 2.0 with custom pistons to get the desired CC, or make a hybrid from the twingo 1.4/1.6 engines?

Change the crank to shorten the stroke of your 2ltr?
Would make it a really revvy little unit.

The fiat t-jet is a 1.4 turbo and in esseesse form is 180bhp, with a decent remap over 200 is possible...

The block used would also have to be one fitted to Clio in a normal production run, so either a 1400 clio block or indeed a sleeved down 2000cc block, wonder if you could just destroke with a change of crank as mentioned above.

Custom crank, rods and pistons to de stroke an f4r,
I reckon by the time it's finished you would be near £7k with management,
Buy a pug 205 or integra type r if you want to be competitive in sub 2 litre production class

Have you considered the 1.2 turbo? Seems the Twingo boys have a simple remap and injector swap to make they quicker than a 172. I'm sure with a bit of strengthening, slightly bigger turbo and some boost it should go well.

But that Head and Block combo would have to have been a factory standard fit in Clio :-(
