Car looks good. Don't think much to the big "Photo" sticker in the windscreen though. Reminds me of Talladega Nights and the Fig Newtons sticker.

So today I passed me BARS rally test for my nat B rally licence. I went to Phil Price rally school in mid Wales. Test is pretty easy. He goes through everything with you before the test. Practical wasn't as long as usual because of the snow but at least that's out the way.

The clio still isn't log booked just yet. I'm not happy with how the cage is fitted on the rear arches. So I'm getting that redone next week.

Me and my brother are taking the both cars to Anglesey rally track day in the 29th of December so I've been buying tyres and even more wheels for the car
IMG_3714.JPG
Picked these up this week as I needed more 7j wide wheels.

Now I've got 10 7j wheels, 4 6.5j speedlines and 4 15" Renault wheels and the garage is full of hankook, Dunlop and Michelin rally tyres. Just need to get them on all the rims

Little update today.

Fitted some camber bolts due to the bilsteins not having a slotted hole for camber.
Rear part of the roll cage has been refitted with new spreader plates. I've also painted the rear of the car and spare wheel well.
New discs and bearings ordered for the rear that will be getting fitted this week sometime.

thought bilstiens were slotted?
I’ve seen some that are slotted and others that aren’t. I’ve set it to max camber at the minute at Anglesey next week so I’ll have a play round with it there. When I had it on track I had a similar camber setting and it handled well.

So I was at Anglesey rally track day yesterday. Car was superb all day, only issue I had was the fuel line popping off mid hairpin but nothing some cable ties couldn’t sort out.
There was a couple of clios there. A white 197 that I’ve seen there before and a blue 182 that a pass at the end on this video. It was the last run of the day so I took my cousins daughters boyfriend out.

After today though I need to diff and a lower final drive, but I did catch up and overtake my brother in his 106 cup car which he wasn’t happy about. I’ve got a few more videos that I’m uploading today.

Looks like fun, but also looks like a hell of a lot more wear on components especially tyres, brakes and suspension over a track day, lol.

I did go through 2 tyres yesterday but it was my own fault. I had hankooks that had been cut for wets and I didn’t bother changing them when it dried out. The front tyres were gone in this video.
Wasn’t to bad on the brakes but I wouldn’t do it on track suspension. The bilsteins were pretty good though

The car is getting msa logbooked tomorrow finally. Hopefully everything is ok.
I’ve bought a composite spare wheel holder. Not sure if I’m going to use yet, but I might bolt it in over the 172 wheel well. I won it on eBay for not a lot so I’ll sell it if I don’t end up using it.

I’ve also picked up a 129 gearbox so that can be rebuilt and a gripper Diff and lower final drive fitted

I was planing on doing a bit on the car this weekend but all I did was try the 2118’s on and take it for a little blast.
The more the car sits on the drive and does nothing the worse the car drives. The dreaded bump steer is back, maybe because the tracking has been knocked out again but on bumpy back lanes it’s hard to keep the steering wheel in your hands.

So plans before the AGBO stages are
- front suspension refresh with new bushes
- car stickered up in my company logos
- MOT
- set of soft and super soft hankook tyres
- front wheel bearings
- service with plugs and leads
- hopefully remap before the 18th of March

Did they not mention your bias adjuster when they came to check the car?
No nothing mate. I’ve heard that rumour too about bias valve going under the bonnet but I don’t see that ever coming in. Every rally car I know has a bias valve inside the car

Not checked yet but apparently it's in the book for this year but reads as it can be anywhere but it it's within reach from the seat can't be adjusted so imagine lockwire etc would be ok?

Need to check though as got one to do over next couple of weeks.

I just had a quick look then and under braking system in the stage rally car section it doesn’t say anything about bias valves at all.

Yeah I can't see anything in the book about bias valves. It would certainly cause some upset, as most cars have them - mine included!

Wonder if adjustable pedal boxes will come under scrutiny too if they don't want things adjusted whilst in a seated position.
Lot of people having to get the new passport type logbook on their cars to avoid having to make the changes from next year.

But if you’ve got the old style logbook and not passport you don’t need to change anything until it runs out. Only thing at the minute you need is fire extinguishers that are in date and artifices. The new roll cage rules won’t apply until you get the new passport when your logbook runs out.

The pedal box in my Escort is an absolute t**t to adjust when you're laying under the dash, let alone in the seat, so I think I am safe from that perspective at least. The roll cage stuff is ridiculous however. I'm restoring an old 90s F2 car and am unlikely to get it logbooked this year, so it's going to need it's original roll cage modified. Yet the bolt-in in my other car, which has an existing logbook (and is exactly the same design as the Clio cage that got outlawed) is perfectly fine for several years yet. The MSA are a strange bunch.

So fitted the cheap eBay wing mirrors. I ended up damaging one whilst I put it on nothing a bit of cheap carbon wrap couldn’t hide. I’m probably going to rip them off on the first chicane anyway

Whilst the wrap was out I decided to wrap the door bars on the cage

Bolted in the wheel brace. Then again played around with mounting the spare wheel

What do you reckon to the PMS sump guard?
Looking at options for mine and it seems OK on paper. I assume the dropped section for the gear linkage is steel and is substantial enough?
I suppose its better than having the whole rear of the guard lower. Did you consider any others?
Thanks.

It’s good, I bought it second hand so it was a no brainier. It fits well but I did have to space a few of the bolts because I couldn’t get it to match the subframe perfectly but it’s no big deal.

I’ve not seen any other make sump guards fitted to clips. Only the pms or diy ones. I think omp do one but I don’t know how good it is

So I’ve been gradually doing little bits for the past week or so now. And I’ve gone one step forward the. Two steps back.

New plugs and leads fitted. Now I have cylinder 2 misfire code. Looks like an injector but that’s the least of my worries.

Whilst working on the car tonight I noticed this........

So this now needs welding ASAP with a strengthening plate welded over that. Was meant to be having an mot tomorrow then oil and filters next week. The Agbo stages is only 2 weeks away now

Only hardish landing is the silly jump at Anglesey , but I braked every time I went over it. I’m going to order some longer springs for the front.

I did put a picture of it on Facebook and a guy with the same gaz mounts as mine has the same problem with the drivers side turret

Interesting. I wonder if the Gaz top mounts strain the body somehow.

Has @Pauleds strengthened his top mounts? His car has done a few events ok. If his has survived, it might suggest that the Gaz mounts are an issue.

  Audi rs3/Clio 172cup
So the top mounts are sorted. They don’t look the prettiest but they’ll do until the engine bay gets sprayed.

Mine and my brothers cars get some decals yesterday ready for the AGBO stages on Sunday.
