clio 172 quicker than type r civic!!??

  clio 172
On the weekend i dorve through whitchurch in bristol and a type r pulled up next to me at the lights, i dont normally race but he was reving his engine etc etc. Anyway my clio 172 beat him, but only slightly probs a full car length ahead.

I know this could be down the driver not being very good, but anyone who buys a type r should surely now how to drive slightly well.

Also it deffinately wasnt a type s because the 172 can leave them for dust.

Any ideas, because on paper they are 0.3 -0.4 secs faster to 60.

No difference. Had a few runs with Riz, him in 182 me in 172. No difference at all straight line. Sadly my ancient 306 rallye can pull a slight gap.

pls dont take offence guys but use the search button, this comes up every day lol

its down to how healthy the car is and the driver

one is not quicker than the other

This has been done to the death. There is a gnats c*ck between them until triple figures, where the CTR will probably pull a gap. Everyone knows the clio after a 100 is like Jade Goody running the marathon!

i've had one real run with a type r a few years back. he had an induction kit and S.Steel Ex. i pulled about half a cars length from 20-80. then he gained it back.

the driver must have been poo! got a 182 and a type r and its defo quicker! which i dont like to admit as the type r belongs to the missus!

I had a play with a type r the other day the clio was faster up to about 80 then he started gaining I let him past just before triple figures but he definately had an advantage at that point.

my ctr when standard used to be exactly the same as my mates 172 cup. and we tested this about 7 or 8 times in the early hours of the morning with no one about. and we drove each others cars as well as our own. this was up to about 80 and then i used to start pulling away.

in my experience though the cup is noticeably quicker than a full fat 172.

p.s 0-60 between 2 fwd hot hatches there's not gonna be much in it. even now my ctr is considerably modded and i wouldn't destroy him from a standstill due to traction. maybe half a second at the most. my car is probably around the 6 second mark (be lucky to get a genuine sub 6 second 0-60 dash). and the difference on the road with ordinary drivers who don't wish to buy a new clutch every month is like someone said, 'a gnats c*ck'
