Clio 172 vs 106GTI etc etc .....

Hi

I am trying to workout why some other car owners (esp the 106GTI for some reason!) compares themselves to the mighty Clio 172....

I love Peugeot GTIs and have a 205 I race. However, without being too technical, how can people say for example a 106GTI is "as quick" as a Clio

The 106GTI has a power to weight ratio if 126bhp/tonne while the Clio 172 has a ratio of 166bhp/tonne. (950kg vs 1035kg)

Apart from superior aerodynamics, gear ratios, driver skill to change gear quicker(!) how could a car like the 106 keep up..?

There is no shame if a car is quicker, I just wish people would be realistic...

Because the 106 GTi more often than not makes more than their standard claimed 120bhp.

Mine for example was standard and ran 133bhp @ 6930rpm.

So that was 146bhp/ton and 0-60 in 7.4.

Having owned both i can honestly say whilst the 172 is marginally faster in a straight line, there would be nothing in it on a sharp tight twisty stretch of road.

140bhp gti/vts, stripped & weighing 850kg = 165bhp per tonne.

Cammed gti/vts at 155bhp (lets be honest most are, it only costs about £400 lol) = 185bhp per tonne.

Same/more than a a 172 ... ;)
