Have you got a build thread up somewhere? I see your constantly buying nice parts so figure they must be going on something?

Slowly reading through other members project threads and its bad news as all of them leave me with another part in an online basket somewhere

Both of these f**king headaches are mine 😂

Looking fresh!

Yes no spring compressors required for fitting but I learnt the hard way you should not take someone's word for it that the car has been fitted with sport springs when removing them.

Que a horrible metal spirally snake of doom fired into the air at 2000mph. Luckily it didn't hit any of the neighbours cars but it was close.

Dont know how i missed this thread.. Great work and I absolutely LOVE the attention to detail.

Can you tell me with what did you spray intake manifold? Kinda want to do the same thing to mine, as it looks awful.

Cheers

Cheers mate.

I scrubbed them down in the sink using all her cooker cleaner then acid etch primer.

Silver is this

Darker grey (which I only got because silver was initially out of stock but ended up liking the contrast)

Seem to both be metal loaded to get the colors and both cure to a very hard nearly 2K like surface which seems durable. Both cans have also lasted for ages!

Haha, yea i'm paranoid about this after a bloke at work knocked one of his front teeth out when the spling compressors let go and the spring did him good. Black eyes and everything! I think he would have preferred it if it had just hit a neighbors car 😂

I'd love to do this sort of refresh on my car but if not want to drive it if it was that clean underneath! Amazing work, it'll definatly be a keeper once finished👍

Thanks Oss! No its definitely getting driven!

This was my RS Turbo when nearly done and it took all the fun out of driving it! So the goal with the Clio is just to get it clean and as protected as possible ready for using.

Next level concourse that Escort! Clio is the same type of attention to detail applied. Good stuff!

Great work so far!!

I wouldn't worry about the abs rings, the thinner ones will work by themselves if you get them lined up correctly.

Great thread. I’d love to be able to do this kind of stuff as mine’s not very clean underneath.

Clio is (other than engine bay and the occasional snapped bolt!) really easy to work on, like you can get the rear end stripped down in an afternoon and I'm seriously slow at it, I think Im 1 tea to 1 bolt. Its quite satisfying to do as well but ends up costing far more than you would ever imagine. I said i would spend a grand on it and I think im up to over 2k now just in parts.

Amazing work rob. Id love to do this to mine if i had the time/patience.
Your neighbours must love you.

Thanks very much Iain, didn't really expect anyone to take any notice of the project and chuffed that anyone has spent the time to look through it!

Neighbors are alright but all of them are boring so say things like "Why didn't you get the garage to do that" Admittedly the car has been outside in the air for months now haha so I wouldn't be surprised if behind closed doors they curse me routinely, they were probably all looking up the MOT expiry online and then I got the 6month extension.

New rad in - can't find the pics of it actually in in but it is!

Once the rad was in I gave the engine its first start in several months, fired into life without complaint - no exhaust on the car yet so pretty loud but seemed happy.

At this point I should have just finished and enjoyed the car - I was begining to rush to get it running as the MOT was due, however Boris gave it a 6 month extension (cheers mate!) so instead I turned it round and started taking things off the back end 🤦‍♂️

A few pictures of the general condition

Rear shocks are genuine Renault ones and only a few moths old so they will get a clean up and put back on

Beam out, heavier than it looked but carried it round into the garden.

1599143791084.png

Heatshields off next

1599143817413.png

One above the back box is going straight in the bin.

Got the exhaust mount brackets off, fairly scummy - so will give them a dip to see if they can be saved. One has a broken bolt so will have to extract that with the welder

1599143975548.png

Then onto some scrubbing with TFR and a jetwash

Same for the beam

Bought one of these and set to work on the beam - really impressed with the grinder

Bushes out

Here it is basically totally stripped

Once again, forgot the pics - probably had epoxy covered hands. The beam got a high zinc primer, then brush applied epoxy mastic 121 then a liberal coating of dinitrol. Came out looking good, surface finish suits the aims of the car (ie not perfect but functional).

Whiteline bushed ready to go in - good deal on these at driftworks

Beam ready to go back in after being rained on

Thanks James - I may still do that however they came out 'ok' after a dip plus some grinding, welded up a crack and then epoxy coated them. Basically I should have just got some nice stainless ones and saved the time

Should be mint then really.

If i ever need to touch mine, i'll be going the stainless route for the sake of £40-50 whatever they are.

Another great update. Majority of clio II on the road will have that type of surface rust on the underside rear beam and exhaust mounts. I'm sure there will be a restoration parts market long term when more people start trying to save these cars. As values for the good restored ones will creep up surely.
