Cup handling/suspension RUBBISH!

Right, had the Cup a few months now and everywhere I read says how great the handling is and that "it'll beat anything in the twisties"!
But mine just doesn't seem that good!?
Just had all new Proxes and doesn't seem to have made much difference!
It make's that horrible squeaky noise on full lock and when going over speed bumps and the suspension just generally seems crap!
Any advice people pleeeeeeeease?? :hail:

For a start dump the toyos mate . I had t1-r's and t1-s's on my 172 and tbh in the wet they are sh*te .

Can't believe how much better the grip on the Exaltos are wet and dry . The cup suspension on my 182 is miles better than the suspension on my old 172 , but i have to agree , some people do seem to think that because you have cup suspension there is nothing to beat em in the so called " twisties " lol ;)

Yes, the standard cup shocks and springs are a bit crap. I'd invest in something else, I have H&R coilovers on mine but a set of Apex springs would help quite a bit.

As for your squeek, it's a common issue with the top mounts. The hole where the strut goes through probably needs grinding out.

T1-R's Should be much better in the dry than the PE2's!!!! Who cares about the wet!!! No point in driving fast in adverse conditions imo.

Std cup handling is A+....No offence intended here, but are you sure it's not you? Mayb your not used to it yet. Took me a while in all honesty.

It's a LOT better as standard than most cars in it's class.

But it's by no means perfect, but as MrBilly said, some decent tyres will drastically improve handaling, F1s for me ;)

  BMW 330d :)
I find there is a fair bit of body roll on my 172 cup as std. Would lowering springs reduce this by alot or would coilovers be much better? Also doesnt lowering the car wear out the driveshafts quicker?

Cheers

Don't about that fraser. They certainly redce bodyroll massively, mine feels awesome and considering how much less travel there is with the H&R's they soak up the bumps aswell as the standard bouncy cup setup.

^Nah, Lowering may wear your shocks. But ur best bet is to update the shocks anyway.

Agree toyos in the dry are not bad , but that could be said about lots of different brands of tyre . In the wet they are sh*te and i care about the handling in the wet just as much as the dry , don't want to be tip toeing around bends like some old fart sunday driver ,lol ;)

The pirelli p6000's i had on my 306 were pretty good , wet n dry imo .

Are you confusing grip with handling?

Tyres affect grip levels...but only altering the balance of grip available from front to rear could you say they affect handling.

I think the Cup handles really well, sure it rolls a huge amount when you really load it up in a turn, but that emphasises the weight transfer which is so important in these things to make rapid progress.

And I wouldn't say there's anything "crap" about the springs and dampers...they're friendly and very, very easily exploitable :D

Car only goes as fast as the driver.......

Std cup suspension is very good compared to other car std suspension. But there are great improvements to be had upgrading to H&R / Bilstein / leda's etc.

But thats the case with everycar....

Have to say the Clio with sus mods is a very very quick cross country and track car (well in the dry at least)...!

Maybe it's a case of me expecting a little too much but years ago I had a standard(ish) 106 Rallye and that felt miles better! Grip isn't really the issue it's definately the sus setup. This squeaking noise that all Cup's suffer from? Is that something Reno know about and will fix? Would it be a manufacturing issue and thus be free???? (Hold your laughter!)
What's the best way to get the Cup up-to-standard in the handling dept.? Spent over £1k already in just a couple of months so starting to lose the faith somewhat.......someone bring me back from the brink of Honda or Ford..........(I hang my head in shame for saying such a thing!)

Yeah most dealers should know about the suspension issue. Hope you find a good dealer with the knowledge.

If you want a quick and cheap change then get the apex springs or eibachs.

^ Can't comment re. a 182 setup or 172 cup but I've always thought my standard suspension setup on my full fat 172 is utter s***e to be honest, now at 33k miles Im sure the rear shocks are dead, am about to go after-market and lower
I have found the Exalto PE2's much better than the original Conti's though, especially in the wet

To be fair Mark, it's all apart of a bigger picture. Grip is directly linked to the Handling of the car. But you are right in what your sayin. There a mass of variable which can alter the grip levels of the car (ARB, Struts, Suspension, Coil rates and rebounds, Pressures, Tyres) These all inturn affect the over all balance and handling.

So is the only way to get things cooking to chuck yet more cash at it?????
So the answer is uprate the suspension and get it to Reno to get the knocking full lock issue sorted. Can anyone that has actually had the full lock work done at Reno tell me what I should be telling them so that they actually fix the problem rather than just stare at the car for a couple of hours? Want to try and know what I'm talking about.....

  Weeman sucks ****
Just tell them what you wrote and they should sort it. Say you've got the common fault of a rubbing shock.

As for handling better, yeah a bit of money will transform the car. Coilovers easily add 20bhp lol.

Yep just tell them the suspension is knocking and you need the strut top modification. If they know anything at all they'll already know whats required when you tell. them. At the same time ask them to check the suspension, because apart from the tyres you've bought nothing else should cause the problems. Also set your tyre pressures to 34psi front, 31 psi rear and see how you go. Good luck, and get some Continentals next time.

Cupster

I have just had the full lock knock sorted under warranty. all they did was undo the top mounts and grind a bit of metal away - I think. I thought I was gonna get greif but they sorted it straight away.

Handling wise I have just put on Apex 30mm springs with my standard cup shocks and fitted two new F1's to the rear. B.I.G improvement mate. I had 17's on my previous cup and they were on toyo's. Don't rate them at all though. Also check your tyre pressures. I run about 32 front and 30 rear.

What if the manufacturers warranty has run out??
Will they still do the work? If it's a production fault it shouldn't matter how old the car is right?
Cupster, you've had it done....has it made any difference??

  Weeman sucks ****
If it's out of warranty then they'll probably charge you but tbh it's not a lot of work so if you can find someone that knows renaults get them to do it.
