Dismantling F4R Bottom end

  LY 182
you will have to take the lot to a machinist

1-if its already been ground you'll never find oversized shells i cant even find any for mine and its not been ground twice

2-its not as simple as you get it ground and new bearings and bolt the lot back together, its needs its clearences setting, them things you asked about the thrust races also need setting up etc

3- if the bearings spun the conrod will be knackerd it wants measuring with a bore gauge

will cost you more than 2 new engines

the crank and and rods are being sent to stan who is going to measure and advise if its possible

if he grinds it and supplies oversize bearings etc... is that not the clearances done? or am I missing something

  LY 182
yeah if he has both there he can sort it out for you, main bearing clearence and thrust will still need checking though

I understand I can check them [the clearances] myself, what happens if its out?

*if* it's all good, I can then start bolting it back together?

Yeah, if all the clearances are right you'll be fine. While Stan has it, get it balanced too....

Yeah definately as it's been taken apart an ground. It's not exensive IIRC.....

will cost him more as he will need to send the flywheel, clutch cover, and crank pulleys with it too as it all wants balancing in one go

yeah you can check mains clearences yourself with plastigauge, if its out will need journals checking and oversize main bearings

thrust is just levering the crank backwards and forwards and you can check end float with a dti
