Ford Racing Puma #160/500 (Déjà vu)

Re: FRP #160/500

Gally put just the other day in a ST thread lap times mean nothing to him ;)

Re: FRP #160/500

LOL Oh Kev x

Hows it feel compared to your last one mate? I haven't driven one for donkeys years, I do remember them being very fun!

Can you PM me price? I'd be interested to see what they go for - Really looking forward to seeing what you do with it :D

Re: FRP #160/500

As much as I love the FRP I still can't believe that, a heavier, less powerful car out handling the worlds favourite FWD chassis? Come on lol

The DC2 doesn't seem to do all that well in a couple of reviews, in some mags they like to slate it and talk rubbish.

Race? :rasp:

They never slated any of the cars in the test. The 3 were brilliant but every mag including this one...

I think you underestimate how the Frp handles and grips granted Pembrey is a bloody tight track.

If the Frp have been 15-17k or something on release opposed to 24k I truly believe the motoring world would be waxing lyrical about like they do the Trophy/DC2 etc etc.

It's alright, the FRP isn't as good at impressing girlfriends ;)

Looking forward to future updates.

Would like a go in one of these, I think it would be right up my street.

I always urge anyone who hasn't had a good shot it in one to do so. Sadly the presumption that's it's just a Puma (no bad thing) doesn't do it any favours as imo it's so so much more.

Indeed mate. Would be great to see what you think of it!

Re: FRP #160/500

Does it have any rust dude?

Are you planning to have it in the same sort of state as that dude who has a progress thread on pistonheads ( the one with the seriously clean one)?

Re: FRP #160/500

I think it's the same one that is on DW, it's actually a Cat C.

Erm possibly but I highly doubt it due to it being my daily. If I do decide to put it off the road which is a possibility as I have plenty of storage then it would be restored and I know my Dad would love to. We'll see, i'm in no rush. It does indeed have bubbling on the rear 1/4s but that's to be expected, it's how you deal with it that matters.

I've forgotten how much fun it is buying nuts, bolts clips etc for hundreds of different bits around the car, clips that have probably never been used/ordered from Ford in years. Oh and 40% discount helps.

More pics tonight possibly once it's being worked on.

It's all in the detail mate. It makes the car.

Need a better title for this thread. I'm uninspired.

But better than an Integra? 2 seconds better? Come on even the biggest fanboi wouldn't go for that :rasp:

It's odd, my mate text me last night, saying something like, "Just pulled up at the girlfirends, guess what was on the end of the street, FRP in the reg..."

Spooky!

Re: FRP #160/500

I'm guessing you're claiming Top Gear lied then? I'm not sure I understand the problem to be honest. Is it that unfeasible?

Re: FRP #160/500

I do apologise for going off topic, but yes, it is unfeasible.

I'll make a thread on PH and get the driving gods to convince me.

As you were...

No need to apologise mate. I know you don't know a great deal about these cars and tbf I understand why people would assume those lap times are nonsense.

I'll scan the Evo review from Richard Meaden (issue #16) at some point. He really hit the nail on the head with his review of the car.

No need to wait, just look for his last FRP thread

Flol! <3

Re: FRP #160/500

Kangoosport (Chi) will tell you just how clean that Trophy was when I dropped it off. Immaculate.

I'm hoping in the next couple of years this will be the same.

Re: FRP #160/500

Not sure if anyone's even interested anymore but I ended up finding out who drove those cars in the Top Gear test in 2000, messaged him on twitter and have just had a response lol

Re: FRP #160/500

I think throttlebodies or a tuned ST150 engine would suit it's nimbleness better. ;)

Lols at Daniel. Surely you realise that other cars can be better than your own?

Re: FRP #160/500

Lol, I wasn't being serious Goodj.

I remember doing a bit of research on the engine on these, the normal 1.7 is a Fiesta Zetec S lump tuned by Yamaha isn't it? and then is it tuned to FRP spec in the UK, or is it Yamaha again?

Haha. Arguments in every thread on here. Pretty neat.

Car looks grand Gally. I'm sure I've already said this but I forget in my old age.

Tickford/Ford developed the FRP spec engine, inlet/exhausts/cams/mapping etc etc. Cracking little engine with a similar idea to the Clio 5k kick as it comes on cam in the puma (VCT).
