JonC219's RB182Cup

And it will come back looking like this;)

IMAG0894.jpg

Not yet Andrew :(

Just got a few bits together for a service in a few weeks

I'm a bit sidetracked by a 205 at the moment, thinking if turning it into a track car...

Jellis_182 It's running a bit more than that now. But a common mistake is to think they're 182bhp from factory. They're actually 182ps which is about 179bhp

And these engines vary massively in power output so 175 is quite respectable :) and the torque I was happy with as most are around 145/150ft.lb

Hope this answers your question mate but thanks for the comments!

It's 184bhp odd now isn't it!?

Update:

Right little bit of catching up to do.

My 182 hasn't been in the best health for a while now since I did all the work to it last year in the engine bay. Had suspected it to be the lower inlet gasket leaking causing a misfire and for the poor starting when warm.

Changed aux belt, guide and tensioner whilst I had everything off and changed the PTFE gasket to standard...

Glad I did it now as I noticed this when it was off :S

Whilst I was down there I decided to put back the small arch liner deflectors that sit next to the lower arm as I didn't like all the crap being thrown at the belt whilst driving.

Then went to the annual Surrey RR meet on Saturday as organised by Jon ( Saner ) on here

Was a good turn out and Martin ( v800mjh ) turned up and ran his 135i which gave some impressive results ;) think you should bring it Saturday to be honest mate :p

I know Kyle ( Kyle 86 ) was well happy with his 172 Cup pushing out an impressive 191bhp, think the only Clios with more power had ITB's? Correct me if Im wrong!

Wasn't the best result unfortunately. I was hoping for at least the same as last time with the addition of matched inlets this run.

It looks as though its running too rich which could explain the starting issue as well. So Im going to borrow a set of injectors from Martin as I suspect mine have finally had enough:quiet:

Did a bit of tarting up on Sunday...

And finally Martin brought along his old dash top and alacantara door cards for me :D so the door cards will be going in once I collect the rears from Bedford and the dash top will be a bit of a side project as I plan to make a gauge pod and flock it

Just a few more odd jobs to sort out then Bedford Saturday! :race:

JonC219

Jon, were you after an MSV/Caged bolt in rear cage? I seem to remember you popped up in a thread to buy one, but it had sold (to me).

I'm selling my Trophy and never bothered fitting it in the end. You interested before I chuck it up for sale on here?

Bit of an update...

This year is all about trying to save so doing small but effective modifications/fixes to the 182

So next job that needed tackling was the cheese front sill jacking points. Having seen the thread on here using a bit of box section I got to work :)

No before's but they won't be bending now

I also swapped the old Powerflex EXH008 mount for 2 EXH001 mounts with the holes pre-moulded. Took a gamble as I wasn't sure if the exhaust was going to sit right but its's perfect now

New mount:

You'll see a pic of how the exhaust now sits in a minute. Much improved.

Whilst I was under the car I swapped the old U-bolt exhaust clamps for some posh Mikalor clamps ;) even though I'll be the only one to see them at least I know they're there!

Should be fun! Not...:banghead:

I also got 4 new injectors after the mess of the rolling road day and it starts on the button now

Hoping to get it on the rollers again at the end of August just after a service and find the missing 7bhp

Cheers, Jon

After pictures of the detail...

I didn't get any during pictures as I just wanted it done! Likewise none of the swirl marks close up but they were not good.

Process was complete decon the day before so Iron-x, Oblitarate, clay, APC all over including shuts etc and 2BM with AF Lather and Halfords sheep skin wash mitt.

Then drove it to my work and gave it a quick once over with the pressure washer to get rid of loose dirt on the way. Inside and taped up then used the rotary with 3M fast cut and 3M yellow polishing pad. Then used the DA with the 3M blue finishing pad and AF Tripple.

Topped with Tough Coat and plastics/tyres dressed with Carpro PERL (really like this stuff, can be used on so many things!). Glass Rain-X'd and exhaust tips shined up with AF Mercury

So pretty happy with how it turned out :) only bad thing is it now shows up all the car park dents/chips in the paint that I hope to get sorted this year when funds allow :(

Also gave the engine bay a quick once over

I also finally attached the 197 RenaultSport badge. Back end looks so much better for it IMO

I like them a lot as they blend in with the anthracite bullets/wheels and darker wing repeaters quite well. My mate didn't even spot them til I pointed them out

Quite pic heavy, but it was due some decent ones really

Next plan is sort the wheels out after the fail of the DIY refurb, and some much needed tyres :S

Mikeyjp cheers mate, done a few more bits to it now! Changed the brake ducts slightly as I wasn't happy with them ...

I managed to do a bit more to the Clio in the last few weeks. Thought I'd give the calipers a fresh coat of paint and detail the arches, looks a lot better under there now.

I also took a hacksaw to the brake duct trumpets in the fog light recesses. I prefer the more subtle look without them stuck on the front.

Finally got round to putting the 200 style RS grille badge on the front of the Clio, only took 10 minutes of thinking, another 10 minutes of cutting and filing and it was on and secured with a discreet zip tie

I also removed all the stickers as I'd had enough of them, just need to get a CS sticker for somewhere now and that will do me. (Kept the wing repeater stickers though)
Added these under the bonnet for jokes but doubt they'll stay on there for long

If the weather stays good it's getting a good clean on Saturday then a full tank of Vpower :D Then enjoy it over the weekend!

Cheers

By looking at the workshop where you work, I don't suppose you work at Whitney Barn do you?? I use to work in the one next day that the car sales own. Small world!

Car looks good btw!

Nice build mate. Enjoyed the read fella and looking forward to your updates

Cheers mate  Got a few more pictures to add so going through them now!

Alright Danny, that's right I worked at HSC next door but left at the end of November last year! You weren't the one with the other RB 182 were you? You must know Connor as well then, he works at HSC now and I'm good mates with him.
Cheers bud it's looking a bit different now though

looks stunning

Ta!

UPDATE
So it's been a long while and various things have happened since the last time I wrote on here...

Went on a track day or 2, first being Bedford GT (don't know why there wasn't pictures before)

Also had a spin in Mother's brand new S5, pretty sure it had 1700 miles on the clock when we took it out, if that!

It was fun for a bit but just too easy even with all the ESP turned off and the chassis and engine in 'Sports' mode so didn't stay in it long. Plus I cooked the brakes :tongueout:

Then I got some 172 Cup Turini's refurbed in anthracite (baaaaa) and shod them in ContiSport Contact 2's as I think they are brilliant in everything I've thrown at them. Somehow didn't get pictures of the car on them in the few months they were on though FAIL:weary:

Took them off in November and fitted the tyres back to the knackered 182 Cup wheels that really need a refurb, but these have become the winter hoops
I'll be getting some Yokohama AD08R's for the Turini's in March and they will be the summer wheels.

I did a track evening at Brands Hatch mid September. First time there and thought it was great fun, Paddock Hill what a corner! So much different driving at a circuit with elevation change instead of flat like Bedford. Will definitely be going here again this year and I want to do Donnington as well if I can afford it.

And shiny new:

Pedal is a lot better even though they still need bedding in so happy once again :grinning: will be swapping the pads out for M1155's when I go out on track for the Season Opener at Bedford.

I also tackled my leaking selector seal once again, HATE this job.

Oh yer, and I also replaced the heater control panel for one that hasn't got all the paint chipped off (can just see the new one in the above pics)
Whilst it was all off I replaced the bulbs for white LED's which look a lot better than the OE orange ones
Got a blue LED conversion to do which I've had for months so will need to tackle that at some point

That's pretty much it but will hopefully have a steering wheel related update next week. Current steering wheel is on but there's wires everywhere as I've got something special planned and I've been playing with the electrics :fearscream:

Cheers!

Lovely car! Are you coming upto Bedford?
Yes Olly and a couple of mates are coming as well.
Got a new toy so wanted to at least do the Opener as I might not have a chance to do many track days after that

I was going to pop up to Jamie's whilst yours was in but work got in the way
Cheers for sorting out the thread title as well :)

  Merc A Class
Just bought myself an RB 182 so this thread has been great for some inspiration! What colour are your brake calipers (or link to said item)? They look a spot on match!
