just pranged my 172...

  Suzuki SV650
...into the back of a big merc people carried mpv thing. Scratches on his bumper will polish out and be resprayed easily.. However..

Mine is in need of a new bonnet, new front upper grille, and from what I can see, maybe a few engine bits?! I don't know how bad it is underneath the bonnet...

He was waiting for someone to turn right, was very sunny, I didn't notice his brake lights come on, was too late for me, even abs didn't save the day... Should have bought a cup....

Any advice on this? Am looking to NOT go thru insurance with this! (Yes, I do have insurance thou!)

Ahh accidents will happen. Just as long as your ok, car can be fixed. Get a garage to check it out and see what is damaged

Is my car suspect to theiving b******s now my bonnet and engine are 'fairly' accessible? The bonnet alarm has been unplugged cus the pin doesn't get pushed down by the bonnet.

The guy just called me, he reckons that he's taken it to a garage and they have quoted him £500 to spray the rear bumper (silver) of his Merc ML 430...

The plastic cover (in the centre of the bumper) that comes off, has also broken, this is apparently included in the cost...

I know Mercs are expensive, but this seems silly. I said I'll call the guy back tomorrow, as I originally said I don't want to go thru my insurance as I want to keep my NCB's, but if its going to cost that much I might have to!

doesnt sound too bad a price imo as i would imagine its quite a large bumper on the ml, although may be as well paying your excess and getting yours and his car repaired for less, do some insurance quotes with a fault accident and see what sort of cost it will add to your premium next year. id imagine its going to cost you approx £1000 to repair yours and his car, id doubt very much if it will cost you £1000 inc excess and premium rise next year to go through insurance.

you try and fins a garage who will do it for cheaper than £500, as for your car only thing i can see the problem is the bonnet, front panel looks ok from what i can see, if not then you can fix your after fixing his Merc,

ouch, unlucky bid..must be gutting!!

may have to think about going through insurance though if its going to be £1k+

If you're not going through insurance he has the right to pick and choose whatever garage he likes, so really he has you by the curlies.

Personally I'd go through insurance as he's likely to want a courtesy car too while his bumper is being done which you'll also have to fund.

Personally i'd just go insurance on it, less hassle and you both 'win'.

My front intercooler thing (is that for the air con?) is bent, as the frame above and in front of it has pushed it all in. The bumper is also a bit cracked. The lights are scratched but the NS one is a bit loose as the top mount on it has cracked a tiny bit. So really there is more damage than I anticipated. Its stuff I can get away with for now, but come the time I want to sell the car, its going to really hurt the value of the car.

Excess is £250, but I'm not sure if there are any other hidden costs.

My insurance with Greenlight is £555 with 3 yrs NCB and I'm 25. Its going to rocket.

Thanks for ur advice thou ppl.
