Launch Control

Can this be fitted to a cup - and any cup owners out there - ar you having serious difficulty getting a good launch - I find first gear pointless - you simply cant floor it for wheelspin and second gear you have to accelerate gently which obviously cuts down your sprints and therefore bad times! Even third sometimes - need launch control or traction control - any help guys and gals?

My fiancees 1600 16v gets away from me from a standing start simply because she can get all her power down aided by the 17 inch rubber! Embarassing trying to keep up sometimes! Shes probably reading this with a smirk on her face...................

think i showcased this racing that cup @ pod, killed him off the mark and he was doing over 90mph when he got level

now who would have believed me if i came on and put a post up saying i beat a cup to 90 in a 1.6 saxo, would have been good enough to give me a victory on the road as traffic light grand prix rarely get to those speeds

cupsize, i find the exact same problem in williams.

i was looking at this launch control system yesterday in demon tweeks catalogue.. not bad bit of kit for £130ish if it works.... does it work similar way to traction control off the line?

i tend not to race anything off the line coz i know ill just wheels spin in the first 2 gears b4 i get going!

That sounds cheap mate - do you thin K-Tec have anything available - its a real bugger this wheelspin malarchy!

i never really had bad traction issues with the williams in the dry.found the spin quite easily controllable. occasionally id do a burnout when i didnt want to buton the whole its ok

youve already got one, look in to your footwell just near your left foot, hey presto, one traction control device! :p

That seemed to be partially because of a sh*t driver though mate.

You must be letting the clutch out to quick or dumping from too high a revs, at the end of the day if road testers are getting around 6.5 secs to 60 you shouldnt be that far off. Having 17s wont help, it might have more initial grip but it would make you slower overall. Get some better tyres if youre that bothered.

not nsure if K-tec do any launch control systems. might be worth ringing them.. they may be able to sort something out

just looked on omex webby.... they have rev limiters with launch control switch which can be mounting to dash/steeringwheel/gearknob.. and its £87!!

telford.

its a nice system that.. but i think it costs more just to get the wheels sensors put on the non ABS, than the system itself

Launching is all about practice... its well hard to do properly but get it right and your laughing all the way to the next traffic lights

I get decent launches about 50% of tht time in the dry... in the wet no chance.

I find holding about 2500 revs then dumping the clutch and putting my foot down once the speed has built up will toast most people..

I had a good go at testing launches on CarTest once Id got it setup as spot on ass I could, and after a load of trys dumping the clutch at about 2000rpm seems to do the best at getting you off the line (at least in my 172) and when I went out to test this for real it really done to the trick, good little proggy that :)

I find it easier to gety a decent launch in the the willy than in the 172. The spread of torque in the willy is more useful and allows for quicker lower rev starts. The 172 never seemed that keen below 4500 revs and a bit too keen above leading to dead tyres and bad launches for me!

http://www.fastchip.nlwww.fastchip.nl do a chip with built in launch control/full throttle gear change capabilities, but seemingly only for phase 1 Clios . Someone on this thred mentioned a rev limiter/launch control for about £90. More details please!!!

Rob - on what? 172 or Willy?

Craggy - some of us dont have the magic touch when it comes to launching. I like the idea of traction control....just need to find a suitabley low priced system (eg: NOT racelogic!)

OMRLCLC
Rev Limiter Clubman with Launch Control
£ 87.75
The Omex Rev Limiter Clubman and Rev Limiter Clubman with Launch Control are high quality microprocessor controlled units. Both offer extreme accuracy by using Omexs acclaimed incriment and decrement buttons and LEDs. Both rev limiters offer an extremely smooth rev-limiting action and a user selectable hard or soft cut option. The Rev Limiter Clubman with Launch Control also has an auxilliary rev limit which is operated by the supplied waterproof switch which can be mounted on the steering wheel or gearknob. Set seperately to the main rev limit, the auxilliary limit is used at the start line to prevent wheel spin or the engine bogging down enabling very consistent results. Both units are suitable for use with 2,4,6 or 8 cylinder single coil engines using points, electronic ignition or an ECU (or 4 cylinder DIS ignitions in the case of twin coil units). However, niether is suitable for use with CDi ignitions.

BTW, how the feck would I go about fitting this sort of thing. Is it like £90 for the product and £100000000000 to fit as usual?

I agree with craggy - learn how to launch using the correct power - itll save you a fortune!

Rob - "My view is if you cant afford the best dont bother at all" - so why are you driving around in a 1.2 Clio? ;)
