LiquidYellDan's 182 Thread

Didn't get the car finished this weekend as hoped. Ran out of time unfortunately. :-(
Completed whole front end and drivers side rear:: shocks, springs, top mounts, spacers, discs, pads, hoses.

Rear passenger old discs, pads are off and spacers fitted and springs in.
All hard work done now, the stubborn bolts etc have been removed.
Just need to fit the rear passenger new discs and pads, shocker, check the caliper over and fit the braided hoses in center section for rears.

Have left the car in my dad's garage and he's going to finish the last corner off for me ;)
One of the ends of hand brake cable had started to fray slightly so he's also changing rear cables too.

Will just have to flush new fluid through with him when I collect the car next weekend. Not many pics were taken :( will try and take more next weekend though.

One of the top mounts had begun to perish and the one rear wheel bearing was totally shot and grumbling. So a job worth doing.

Finally got round to fitting the spacers, discs, pads, hoses, shocks, springs, top mounts, new handbrake cables and b fluid change! :)

Top mounts are superb!
Fitted mounts and am amazed at the difference!! Totally transformed steering feel and response. Car feels so much tighter. My std ones had begun to perish a little too.
No real difference in ride comfort or noise. Slightly louder road noise on rough roads, and i mean slightly!
Absolutely worth fitting.

Car is sitting nicely but have rubbing issue on rear arch :( rear drivers sitting about 5mm further out than passengers..... Their same size 15mm both sides. Is this normal to have slight difference in width?

apologies for the dirty car :p
Would a geo setup correct this discrepancy? I'm looking to do one this week.

So with the springs and strut mounts you wouldn't say its any harsher ride? I'm in need of replacement top mounts and the car needs lowering in a big way I just don't want it to be too harsh as i'm getting old :p
your car does sit very nice on the spacers and springs ;)

Really sorry, haven't even looked at my own thread in months!
Springs aren't much different, a tad bouncier maybe. But a 182 hasn't exactly got a soft ride as standard so the difference is minimal comfort wise.
Solid top mount do make it sound and feel a bit crashier over rough roads, but for the tightness of the steering and turn in feel I think it's worth it.
Guess I should do an update while I'm here... :p

Did my first ever full detail on a car.
Usual procedure everyone uses.. .
Snowfoam is fun

Snowfoam, wash car,tri x, clay mitt, menzerna 2300 cut 2 passes, then 4000 grade. Using up last of my mer wax to finish.
These are before and after machine polishing, can see the reflection of the lamppost is much sharper in 2ND image.

Believe it or not didn't take any other 'after' pics apart from this crap one.

Haven't done anything to the car for a while. Decided to tart the engine bay up a bit. It needs tlc....

I used halfords vht paint.

I actually wanted the cam cover and fuel rail guard silver and the top of inlet grey/anthracite. But they only had silver grey and black. So did it all silver for now.

It's a big improvement but still want the inlet a darker colour. But it'll do for now [emoji106]

Had a brilliant time, and a great first track experience.
Had an issue with a knackered power steering pump. Was solved by a new Renault pump and fitting kit by Dan sjm. [emoji106]

Pics courtesy of Andy. Thanks again. [emoji5]

Small update. Had 4 new Renault front anti roll ball bushes fitted recently. Definitely a job that needed doing!

Jobs on the to do list over Christmas.
're paint engine darker colour.
Paint calipers
Paint exterior plastics satin black.
Maybe a quick machine polish too.

Haven't done much to the car of recent. Mainly just clocked miles up and maintenance.
Had all belts done at Two Techs in Dartford Kent. Great service there, recommended! [emoji5]
Have moved house since last update, so now clios on a bigger drive and have access to a garage for any potential polishing/maintenance in summer [emoji41]

Not too much of an update. Bought 4 barely used nankang ns2r track tyres with intention of buying 15" alloys to fit them...

Ended up buying wheels and tyres anyway in the end! Oz f1s with toyo r1rs fitted

These will be used as summer tyres/alloys with the hope of an occasional track day. Need to source new center caps though. 400 for 4 alloys and 8 tyres works out quite well!! [emoji41] [emoji106]

Really want to try the wheels on the car, but it's still a bit too cold!

Yeah. Looking forward to getting them on. Have ordered new set of center caps as 2 are missing, gone for a carbon OZ set instead to suit the anthracite better.

When weather warms up I'll put these on..... if I can wait that long!

Lovely car this, with some good mods and work put into it, glad to see it's going to be out and about on track more :)
Cheers mate. Not as much work as I'd like though to have done to it [emoji5] still have loads of small bits I'd like to do.

Just took delivery of a poly bushed dog bone today and would like to get the scenic gear lever mod too.

Will fit those 2 the same time and take the washers from under seats while im there, lower the height till I get some aftermarket seats in [emoji41]

Will need to paint the calipers silver before fitting the f1s, will look real crap with rusty calipers [emoji14]

Trackday within a month or 2 hopefully!

I'm doing Anglesey in July if you fancy it, with Javelin :)

I have just read this thread from start to finish an I have to say that it is a lovely car that you have :).

I shall be intrigued to see how you get on with the NS-2Rs. I have just bough a set myself for the weekend toy. Which compound are they?

And your still awake? [emoji3]

Thanks mate. Should have some more pics this weekend with the F1s fitted on. They look great.

Could do with 're writing the thread and thinning it out a bit.

It might be a while before using the ns2r as I already have some toyo tyres on the summer/track wheels.
When they wear out I'll fit them. To be fair I haven't checked the compound, sure the guy said their medium. They were a good price so just bough them regardless of compound to try out [emoji14]

I shall be intrigued to see how you get on with them. The T1-Rs IMO are a grippy tyre but not one which lasts long and also a tyre which has soft sidewalls.

Those F1s are looking the mutt's nuts it has to be said!

Did you get the rear alignment sorted?

How do the spacers affect the cars handling?

After talking to various people it's fairly normal for there to be slight differences in the arch gap.
I've had it on Hunter system twice and they've not mentioned anything, the rears fixed anyway so no adjustments to be made.

I fitted the spacers and all suspension at the same time, so didn't really get to see if they made a difference. Will probably be taking the fronts off to fit the wheels, so will see how it feels then.
If I take the spacers out I'll probably need to 're align the car again.

I never flat back paint. I've found the best way I have found when painting with cans is to let the primer dry and then sand then to spray the colour wait 5-10 mins and then go straight over with 4 coats of lacquer. Seems to work best that way.

I'll try that next time. How many costs of colour do you usually use, 3?

Would be a lot quicker doing it that way too.

Generally yeah two or three. I've done it so much now I can usually do it in two with no runs.

I sprayed my old 106 GTIusing more or less the same method as you have been using before but the results although good were never great as the lacquer never seemed to "work" and would most likely run.

With this method you just have to kind if judge how much lacquer to use although I reckon 4 coats is enough. They say the stuff you buy in cans isnt as good as in guns hence the amount of coats.

I did a walk through guide if me spraying my spoiler if you can find my progress thread. That came out VERY well. Next can job I do I reckon will be perfect. Barring the odd specks of dust of course.

I forgot to mention I then wet sanded it a few days after to make sure it was fully dry with very fine wet n dry (think I used 2500) I then polished it by hand.

Its been a learning job. My bullets were the first and they are nice but dont have enough lacquer on. My badges are good but again should have used a tiny bit more lacquer and my spoiler is dope but could have used more sanding when it was dry (guess I could still do that if I wanted)

Cheers for the tips.

Need to 're do my front badge. Has 2 or 3 chips now, partly due to it not lacquered.
Few other bits I can do too. Will be quicker using your method.

Paint brake calipers is first on list though. Have a tin and fine brushes ready to go.

  172
Yeah I need to do my lower grilles as doing the main one made such a difference!

One more tip. I know people say dont paint when its raining but seeing as we dont have extractors is sort of a dust preventative as it cleans the air so to speak. All my spraying was done under my car port.

Also my front badge has a stone chip in it now can thank the audi r8 coming off the slip road for that the b*****d! Use plenty of lacquer just watch it dont run!

Nice car too btw! Its the reason I even commented as it looks so good...I kinda got sidetracked lol
Thanks buddy. [emoji106]
Thanks for tips!

Yeah, I want to paint all my exterior plastics satin black to freshen them up, the calipers, few interior bits, some engine parts and 're paint the inlet manifold.... looks awful in the bright silver!

Would like to change seats, steering wheel and gear shifter too.... But need to buy stuff for new house and focus on a new car for the wife. [emoji17]
