My Inferno Story...

More progress on the rear end today.
@pure-motorsport spacers fitted, new disc on but the pads given to me were the same shape but the compound itself was different between the pair. Super tight to fit and just didn’t look 100% right.
Straight in the bin they went and a quick order on @George@RTR_Parts web page and a set of brembo pads should be on the way to me soon.
Been lucky with the pads removed tbh…

This is how I’ve left both sides this afternoon while I wait for pads. I need to get some paint for the calipers too but still undecided on colour.

I’ve also secured some more parts…

10mm PMS spacers for the front from @cjgower to run instead of the 16mm I normally would do and a non-res pipe for my Milltek system to hopefully release a bit more noise.

Let’s start this update with shiny new tools… Norbar 20-100nm Torque Wrench 🤤
3F49BD29-A9DE-4B67-BE53-4FA1D168FE06.jpeg

Which after arriving today, promptly and correctly torqued my studs in situ.
6E5C89C0-5FBD-467C-A52B-320D6646CF70.jpeg

Still waiting on brake pads from George for the rear but I have dug out my red paint ready to give the calipers a freshen up of paint. Whilst working today I also drilled and tapped a hole to re-secure the rear arch liner.

Update from Alex at AWMortorworks…
81D91B5B-A31C-4B40-A2F5-EF8A09420D01.jpeg

The block came back from machining today.
Forgot to get a bare photo but core plugs fitted & fully painted. I’ve got a couple of busy days but hopefully get bottom end built this week, head is on the bench fully stripped, lap valves in that, clean, assemble & refit sometime next week, quick process from here.
More updates soon & we’ll plan a date.

Many thanks, Alex”

It’s getting close now… I just want it built so I can drive the damn thing! Planning on getting photos done with a LY & PB 182s which will look great sat together.

Couple more jobs ticked off the list this morning.
De-res pipe fitted…
03DE2B3A-3556-4AED-9E19-FB9E9C6A4C88.jpeg

Which has now led to major misalignment at the back end.
4A8E8F99-C5F2-454A-A48C-1D136D25DA9E.jpeg
The right side sits nice but the left just will not move over at all, honestly thinking about applying some heat to bend it over!
A quick lick of paint to the calipers after fitting my new pads which arrived this morning whilst doing the exhaust
445CFF8D-B1B1-4758-8B40-4A7A57027267.jpeg

Then a quick fit up to see it all come together.
CFD79213-3C77-426D-83C5-EB5BE83CF337.jpeg

To recap the rear end has had…
PMS 10mm stub axel spacers
PMS Stud conversion
New oem discs
New brembo pads
Freshen up the calipers with paint.

Next jobs to do whilst waiting for the engine to be completed will be to fit the stud conversion to the front along with either the 10mm or 16mm spacers, Clean up and paint the calipers and fit the @plees brass bush insert.

Looking good mate. Is that a custom centre section?
Fleabay special mate got it for £60 which good considering it’s up for £94.50 and some others are £100 plus.

I know you were looking for a while which is why I asked! Glad you're sorted. Milltek sounds epic straight thru.

Yeah was looking for ages! They just don’t seem to come up for sale used much.
The BG I had was straight through with a single John Ashley box an it was probably the best sounding n/a Clio I’ve ever heard.
But when I fired up the Inferno I didn’t think that it sounded different to when it had the centre box, probably because I’ve not run it in ages haha.
Hopefully it’ll sound decent when I get it out on a run!

Finished off the front yesterday and gave her a much needed bath as it’s been covered in grime/salt for the past 4 weeks.

Put the 16mm hub-centric spacers on but I think I’ll be changing these out for the 10mm PMS ones I recently acquired as they rub when turning lock to lock. I also need to raise the back up a bit more as again I scrub ever now an then over bumps.

Photos don’t do the colour/paint any justices as it really pops in the sunlight.

You won’t be able to run 10mm slip on spacers with the Turinis. 10mm on the hubs leaves only 4mm of the hub nose protruding for the centre of the wheel to locate on.
The Turinis have a 6mm chamfer on the rear which leaves you 2mm short. For this reason you should only run a maximum of a 5mm slip on on the front with a Turini, failing that, a 16mm is the next size up as these are hubcentric and have their own centring hub for the wheel centre to sit on.

Some idiots will tell you that you don’t need the wheel to locate in the centre and you just use the bolts/studs to centre the wheel but this is incredibly dangerous. The studs/nuts are not there to hold the wheel true, they are purely to stop it falling off.

Can’t you get 10mm hubcentric spacers from H&R?

The OEM cup hub nose protrudes 14mm so you physically can’t fit anything less than that in a hubcentric fitment. This is why most you see start at 16mm to allow some clearance.

Is that different for non cup pack hubs? I may have to drop the front wheel and measure later.
I don’t know for sure mate. I only have Cup hubs so can only go from what I’ve measured on my own car.
A lot of this is outlined on the PMS website too.

A Speedline 2118 for example had only a 2mm rear chamfer so can be run with a 10mm slip on spacer without issue.

I would like some 2118’s but are they not about twice the weight of a 16” Turini?
edit: just seen one of your older posts a set of 16” Turini vs 15” 2118 with tyres is basically the same weight 🤔🤔

Looks like I’ll be running the 16mm until I get some 2118s then 😂

Depends. I'm running RCK hubs which bring the front s out 5mm, so a further 5mm spacer makes 10mm overall and 20mm increase in front track. So yes its can be worth it. All depends on what you're looking to achieve.
RCK?? I’m trying to achieve good handling whilst still looking decent. My coil overs are appalling so they’ll be changed out after the engine is done.

RCK (Roll Centre Kit)
I use the NorthloopCup (Bridgecraft Motorsport) hubs on my car which widens the front track by 5mm per side anyway. If you want good handling, id ditch the 16mm spacers for a start, my car drove awful on them.

So 3 weeks home has passed and I'm back at work for 3 weeks again with the car still not having progressed any further.
I've not had any comm's from Alex since 22/2/22 even though I emailed him on 2/3/22 with no response and tried to call on 9/3/22 with the call going through to voice mail and myself requesting a response from him. I appreciate he is a busy guy with lots on but I must admit I'm getting a bit anxious. I've owned the car since 27/11/21 and have only got to drive it for the 3 weeks before the engine got hurt. I just want to drive it properly and enjoy it!
Am I wrong in this and just being paranoid or am I justified in my thoughts 🤷‍♂️

If his usual pattern is to reply within a set amount of time and then he suddenly stops doing that, then yes i'd say it's understandable to feel anxious. He's probably overloaded with work and hasn't got an update for you. Either that or he's buggered off to Ukraine in which case you're fooked 🤣.

Added - i'd be thankful you get any comms at all. My car went in to a reputable garage for an engine rebuild in July last year, never heard a sausage for a month. Chased it up, got a reply that they've not even started it and they'd stuffed it outside to get even rustier.

Waited another 3 weeks, not a sausage, chased it up, not even started it due to no parts available. 3 more weeks still no update, chased it up and the bloke was too busy fighting the petrol tanker driver to come to the phone. 3 weeks later, not a sausage so final straw was to go in the trailer to collect it, car was still stuffed outside the garage getting soaking and the boot was full of engine parts. Kicked off bigstyle, bloke couldn't understand why i was getting so angry and frustrated. Came to an agreement i'd get the parts, send them to them, they complete the work within a couple of weeks. 1 month after that i got my car back.

Workmanship was awesome, car is unreal now, but comms none existent. At least they were consistent 🤣 I'd even go back now i know how they operate.

Honestly his communication is not great I can never get through on the phone and he tends to email back a week after I send him a message, he is working flat out I think as he has about a six week lead time to do any work. I would say he is honest so don’t be worried just keep being polite but persistent in comms. When I’m impatient or need an MOT I use renotec in Chelmsford which is the next closest specialist I believe but they are pricey.

I know his work is decent and I'm not faulting him for that. I'm just after an update on my engine progress and when i can drop my car off for the swap to be carried out and having not had any comm's for over 2 weeks is all I'm bothered about since I paid my deposit mid Jan.

It is frustrating I am not overly patient with this sort of thing, I hope you get it sorted mate, this thread has had me gripped for a while well done on keeping up with it.

Be patient fella. Alex has a fantastic rep and rightly so, but because of that he is absolutely balls deep in work. If he were to respond to everyone who contacts him right away, you wouldn’t see that engine till next Christmas.

I’ve got a relatively small job I want doing and even that he told me it would be a minimum April 1st before he can get a look at it.

He’ll get back to you when he has something to share I’m sure.
