Forgot to get lots of pictures. Sorry I do kind of suck at these update threads.
But dan@sjm popped up to collect some parts I had for him and instead of taking payment from him for them because my shoulder was knackered I had a couple days labour out of him instead as I wasn't able to do anything myself much at the time.
So he swapped the cams over to 438s along with new dephasor etc and then gave me a hand with mapping it for them although it got cut short by a hydraulic fluid leak on the PAS.
definitely goes a bit better now but this is just not a great engine to start with so I should think it's still not over 190bhp even now, it takes around 5 percent less fuelling for example than me/mike/dan were finding we were needing on cars we've mapped on standard management that have just touched 200bhp.
Fine for now though and I intend to build a new engine for it in the future at some point and fit a quaiffe diff at the same time.
Not sure yet if I will stick with 438 at that point or step up to 422s.
Kind of thinking might stick with 438 as Lesley still wants it to be very much still her road car as well as a trackday toy for us as well.
Shoulder finally healed towards the beginning of this week only to be hit by a fever and sickness which I've now ended up on antibiotics for so although I've had all week booked off to work on my mk1 my progress has been so slow I decided to just do a few other jobs on the RB instead and leave the MK1 for next time I can get some time off.
So the other changes me and Lesley have done to the RB this week are:
KW variant 2 front coilovers.
pure top mounts
pure strut brace
Welded some captive nuts on the coilpack mount as it's utter rubbish how ktec do it with nuts and bolts
and I've converted it to EPAS now as well as we had a hydraulic fluid leak and it seemed like a good excuse to do so.
Had a quick run down to dan's as I picked up some wheels for him and while we were there me and him did a bit more to the map now. I'd not say it's perfect still yet as we ran out of time but it's certainly better than what most people end up rolling around on with these cams and will certainly do till i get the new engine sorted, couple tenths of an AFR too rich in a few places but other than that it's fine.
Chalked up 500 miles or so on the trip to dans and back including popping to my mates place to see his new man cave and visit my minis in storage at his.
Bedford on Saturday then Caldwell the weekend after so hopefully will all stay ok for both.
Desperately needs a dehpasor solenoid seal though. I thought I had one in stock and then couldn't find it. So am hoping to get that done before Bedford as I'm off work on Friday.
The only pictures I took. Sorry
my mate Colin's awesome new man cave, huge upstairs area for the serious stuff and then some car ports underneath for dailys.
SO jealous of it!!!
his wife was going to hire a huge marquee for their wedding and as it was about 8k to hire just for a weekend he said instead he would build a space for it. Then after the wedding he added garage doors front and back on the 1st floor as that way it could still be useful. what a legend managing to get her to fall for that.
Only took him 2 months start to Finnish including time to cut the wood out of trees he had chopped down, makes all those "grand designs" types on the telly look like poofs when it comes to work rate. Epic skills and proper hard working. Fully plumbed in and wired etc too. Only thing he had help with was lifting the bigger beams and a weeks help from a roofer to do the roof with him.
