New Nissan DiG-T engine hinted at for next RS Clio...

  260% JCW
Read a story somewhere saying there will be a special last of the run 200 in 2012/13, maybe a 200R like the Megane.

The next Megane RS wil no doubt have 300+ hp so that leaves some good scope for the Clio.

The Clio engine as it stands at the moment is excellent. I loved the hi revving nature of it. BUT...having myself swapped to a 1.4TSI which still revs to 7k or slightly more, I think that this could be the way forward. The mpg in the 1.4TSI is excellent if you drive with a light right foot. I have seen 45mpg on a blip down the motorway. When you hit the loud pedal, then of course the mpg will drop.

Some people have been talking about tuning potential of turbo cars...a revo remap will see the 1.4TSI going from 178bhp to at least 215bhp for about £400. Factor in a cold air induction kit and custom exhaust and you have a very quick off the line. HOWEVER...once you start going down that road, you can wave bye bye to your warranty...and for me, when buying a new car, the warranty is very important.

I watch with interest to see what Renault produce for their next generation Clio. I can't see what is wrong with a tuned 1.6 turbo lump. Remember the early days where it all started for me...Renault 5 1.4 turbo with Raider kit = awesome!

I really, really hope the new RS has a NA engine.

Hot hatches as small as a clio with a turbo are for girls a.k.a. lbrench!

Turbos on R26s are for men.

Dont see how Turbos are the future, they're old technology, superchargers are the future

+1 for 'proper' blowers!

If it's not managed by the spin of the crank, then it's just not right.

Besides, Supers' make a noise that can be worth making, Turbos muffle out an engine and leave you with a non-descript 'pssstch', unless the car is then fitted with a drainpipe exhaust, which just leaves it sounding like it's a few miles away from a breakdown

Whatever! RS should have done the truly manyly thing and bolted in more cylinders! 6 as a bare minimum!

no replacement for displacement... if you're gonna cry about fuel costs, stick an LPG tank in the back ;)

lol at turbos being old. The supercharger came before the turbo ;)

Also I can't see superchargers being the future. In fact they aren't. No chance.

which is a shame, since no-one seems to want to oppose them and sooner or late we'll have a choice between 1-litre turbos or 1-litre twin turbos.

why? Because that's what people are buying.

why? because there's nothing else out there.

Turbos have their place... on diesels

lolz or drive a 1.0 micra.

IMO Hot hatches are simply becoming less specialist, and soon for a true drivers car, we'll have to be looking at more focused low volume cars.

I think some people take it a bit too SRS TBH. Like there are no good turbo drivers cars around? I suppose the F40 is crap as well :D

Not saying that turbos are the end of drivers cars at all, but that imo cars like the entire VXR range, Focus ST, recent VW GTi's, Seat Cupras, VRS' etc etc. are all a bit more mass market than they are focused drivers cars, and I think thats the route the hot hatch is going in general. more about acceleration and straight line speed than about a truely refined chassis.

Ah good stuff.

Maybe start a thread about them? Get some opinions prior to fitting?

Seriously though, they'll look and preform amazingly, no doubt.

Lets just hope the Nissan engine does not suffer from De-phaser problems and fuel injection system faults as Renault have with the IDE range of engines.
Fingers crossed they will be OK.

Actualy looks like this is going to be a good engine. I like the use of a camchain rather than a belt - no more costly cambelt changes. Beehive springs and DLC Coated buckets are also interesting changes. The cam-phasers seem to work the same as the renault ones - using vanes and oil pressure to shift the timing.
