I had every issue of Performance Car back in the day, like all things though threw the lot out one day, think only Tomlain and Barker from EVO are still in the magazine trade the originals from P/car. I have got an old Whatcar upstairs in the attic with the spy shots of the 3 dr cossie back in 84:eek:

Your snobbery is misplaced ;)

Although with yours being a 3 it's more closely linked to the Renault sales team than Renaultsport ;)

Bought my copy today was a very good read and some awesome pics. Will be buying it next month!

I'd already told him that... but I don't think he's having any of it.

Anyway. I think the Williams and the new Cup, whilst massively contrasting, look f**king fantastic!

Surprised that any Williams enthusiast (or wannabee with a 3...) wouldn't know that Renault Sport developed the Williams albeit without the name as we know them today....some history lessons needed me thinks!

Can't wait for the next issue, really reminds me of EVO, with out the supercars page to page.

Err.....yes it is....it was developed by Renault's sport division ie Renault Sport. its just they hadn't branded themselves seperately from Renault as Renault Sport we know today, until the 172 came out....
Sorry, but that's wrong too. The first Renault sport branded car is the sport Spider which arrived in 1996/7.

Renault sport badge :)

Damn, beat me to it!

I was going to have a look at that Spider last weekend. Its not far from me, but didnt get the chance :(

Whats the point in that?

You just trying to make yourself look like a wanker by trying to provoke someone when they have said nothing to you?

  182 Trophy #274
how do you define 'the best'?

Out of the 3 cars mentioned - 197 cup, trophy and williams.

Trophy is quickest on track
Trophy is quickest on road
Williams is lightest
197 Cup has the best trim levels.

As far as the cup being quicker than the trophy, how can it be. It's the only one i've not driven, the F1 and 197 certainly aren't.

For a start it's 20% heavier than a Trophy and only 15ps (according to reno) more powerful. Ok, better brakes but you need them to stop the bloated thing.

Good read this, as much as I love Evo, it's kind of irrelevant for 99% of us. If they stick to their plan of mainly covering affordable cars it should be good.

Loving the photography as well, seems much more raw (in a good way) than Evo etc, which imo overuses Photoshop quite obviously.

The trophy isn't in the test, no need to mention it imo.

i know, i was reffering to this thread that's been transformed from an informative thread to another 'mine's bigger than yours' piece of tat.

I've just bought a 182 Trophy from Gravells. The dealer told me that 182 trophy is quicker than the 197? Is this true or does it all depend on the driver?

the guy trying to sell the car to you told you that? fancy that ;)

it might be marginally quicker in a straight line, but A-B or round a track I'd be beting against the Trophy tbh, the 197's seem on a different level as regards grip and handling.

The best hatch comment was a slice of humour, who am I to comment on the best hot hatch ever.
But as for the Renaultsport comparision, seeing I have owned 4 including a 172 cup and a trophy, I think I have a right to an opinion on which car I think is superior.

Oh yes i forgot you were more able than somebody who actually gets paid for reviewing cars, why dont you apply for a job on top gear, you seem highly qualified with that long list of cars you have drove.

At the end of the day, why would all the performance magazines say the williams is king of hot hatches if it isnt?

think most mag's put the Trophy as the best ever hot hatch, prob why the willi came beneath the Trophy when evo tested them together.
