SM inlet turkish rs2 ish one...results so far

  172 Turbo
It's been in parts since 20th November having a load of work done to it ready for track day on 27th Feb, will just move it from Specialist to specialist until then

yup, it was great to drive beforehand and the lump pf mid range torque was bloody great fun but now you don't notice it missing. i had hoped we could get the torque back up to 155, bit optimistic maybe but no great loss in the scheme of things.

Bloody good numbers there, seems the inlet just needs a decent map. Defiantly something to peak the interest and a nice alternative to ITB's. And luckily I'm only 5 minutes from Chris lol.

  Track 172 Cup
I do keep telling myself I'm not putting much more money into the clio and just gonna do track days and enjoy it lol. Then I seen stuff like this and I'm easily tempted just luckily I'm tight as fook so not as easily tempted to part with my money lol.

  Track 172 Cup
Hopefully as soon as I get mine fitted and over to Chris for a map we will see what it's like mine is a standard engine so hopefully if it's not far of what @bloke got i will be happy and I guess these will be worth it, I only bought mine as it was fairly cheap and hopefully see what gains are like compared to Bloke's.

I got 186 on a standard engine with mine could have had more top end but with a sacrifice to lower end power delivery i think you should easy see 190bhp

I don't get why I read this so often on a simple NA engine, UNLESS, you are takling about cam timing? (though most people are not).
If the cam timing is staying the same..., then the ignition advance and fueling maps at the top end do not have an optimium that is mutually exlusive from an optimium of what you can map at the bottom end. This is EFi, not carbs!
Also with the mk2 that simply phases either fully in or out of VVT, you still get the choice of the optimium engagement points to cover "both" running speeds, this isn't going to 'give more low end with a sacrafice to top end'. Obviously the mk3 has continous VVT allowing dynamic optimisation of cam timing, point still stands true that you are achieving both the best bottom end AND top end in the same map.

I don't know (or give one) about boost, but I believe with wastegates and pressure bleeding you can do the 'more midrange Vs top end' argument, but not on NA. It would take a physical cam timing change either via changing the LSA or moving both cams etc...

/rant

You lost me after UNLESS. I am just quoting what i was told by the mapper. My knowledge on engine tuning is limited hence why i took it to be mapped by a pro. I dont know how and why it works it just does.

This statement was just my interpretation of what paul told me by the way so technicaly its probably wrong as has been pointed out iam sure he would give you the proper reasoning that he gave me but like i said iam not a tuner......

Yeah I understand that mate, but it's one of those common things I see in print on forums all the time and it doesn't stand up.
Paul will (should) know, so I would infer he was talking about cam timing - but that's why I wanted to point out it's not a mapping thing on an NA car, as it's a misinterpreted statement that then gets even further distributed by the masses.
If I had a pound for everytime I read this incorrectly....lol! To be fair you didn't actually say mapping either so not entirely sure why I got on my soap box this time though, probably because I just got on my soap box on a thread on PH...too many e-numbers today I reckon

These are back for sale £800 on ebay if anyone was interested .Just ask him in turkish too add packaging in the box.

Do you think cams would be a good mod with this inlet or would it make the power shift to make it a bit gutless for a daily driver ?

If you did use some cams would you chose a mild cam like the 197 cams or a bit more sporty 438(?) catcams ?

I'm looking at this inlet and the *belts* are due so whilst it's all apart do I chuck some cams in ?

*going to fit some ARP's and a meg pulley when the belts are done, pulley there just incase I go S/C in the future*

  dan's cast offs.
have just stuck billet flywheel, 182 exhaust manifold and cams in mine. off to be mapped again on wednesday so will post results.

am sure it would still be fine as a daily. personally am not a big fan of the 197 cams as they are a bit of a 'compromise' especially for the price they are going for now.

have just fitted another one to a phase 2 that's running standard cams, 182 exhaust manifold and epas. that will be off for mapping on thursday so will have results from that one as well.

sorry, not 182 cams but it does look that way from how i've written it. chucked a set of colombo & bariani in it.

Hopefully get it back and get it on track, fingers and toes crossed for a decent figure on thursday
