Stealthy clio is no more.. Head on crash :(

I love both the legendary 4wd beasties..

And the rwds too.. S15s, supra, skyline, rx7

It's just insuring an Evo or a skyline isn't happening !!! Prodrive scoob with all the trimmings actually comes out quite reasonable!

Collarbone aches n still all bruised up.. Really hurts if I move in the wrong way.. Still might need surgery on it.. Really hoping not I'm s**t scared of operations and it leaves a bloody big scar!

Tbf my back and neck is worse though.. Real bad whiplash and all my muscles feel like they've had a workout!

After the crash I've realised that I managed to crack the pedals with my feet and bend the metal omp dished wheel one one side quite considerably!!

regarding the back aches and pains try get some Naproxen off your Doc if you havn't got something already, they helped with my back when i had a bump back in april and just try keep moving about etc or your muscles will start to cramp up etc which is even worse

Regarding the Prodrive Scooby... Surprised the insurance differences between that and the Evo! Must admit I'm an Evo man myself. Hopefully will be the upgrade from the 182 in the future :)

N surgery ain't that bad mate! In fact it's kinda enjoyable when you go under in a weird way! Had 6 ops in 5 years n its always fun trying to stay awake ;)

N that's quite a hit with the wheels n pedals, hope everything heals up fine and the other half's doing alright. If thinking about the whole situation ever gets you down just think how much worse it could of been n how lucky you are! Works for me :) Jon

haha well il know tomorrow either way... fingers crossed...where i can avoid being hacked up i will lol!!

police came round today to take a statement as they're interviewing him tomorrow.. nice guys..he had worse injuries than i knew tbf.. not that i will be losing much sleep because of that

they said they have watched the video over and over and both cars get air there is that much force

its looking ever more likely that this guy might be uninsured too :(

not sure what that means for me yet.. my insurance wont give me a hire car..potential to lose my no claims and im not sure how im going to go about claiming for my car/injuries too... maybe I wont be looking at such a decent payout il be lucky to be put right!

b*****d :( :( i feel like ive been robbed! just as i got my car how I wanted it after ££££'s and years of work.. I have an assesment for a job next month in suffolk that ive been waiting 3 years to get.. and then this...!! where it looks like i will be without a car completely..my insurance will go through the roof due to no NCB and miss out on a new career

i know im lucky to be alive.. but god this suckkkks!!!

you can claim for injuries through the (M.I.B) motorist insurance bureau but unfortunately not your car, mate of mine got hit from behind by a jeep which then took off and this is what they had to do

  Stealth 438'd 182
f**ks sake! :dapprove:

My thoughts exactly

Think I'm gonna have to go through the MIB etc I may also be eligible for criminal injuries compensation or CiCA or something

Still I think my best bet is to 'lawyer up' and let them sort it out!!!

update:

spoken to the hire car company who I wont name.. first person I spoke to in head office call centre ridiculously unhelpful and cranky definitely needed to get laid..started trying to tell me about data protection for a reason she couldnt be arsed to speak to me.. (a whole load of crap (trust me)... sounds like she just heard the term being banded about and thought she'd quote it at me a few times and hope I got frustrated and went away..)

it worked...

rang back got through to a local branch who were brilliant.. they passed me on to the branch which initially hired the vehicle who again were spot on sympathetic and gave me all the information that I needed quickly..

bottom line is.. he isnt insured for the purposes of the police etc

for me the car and everything else I am told that I will still be able to make a claim against their insurance as normal and then their insurance will then claim from him directly
so thats a bit of good news.. should mean i keep my NCB etc after all!

also phonecall from the police who tbf have been spot on and definition of a prompt and effective investigation here!!.. he was interviewed and charged today, remanded in custody and will face court probably after the weekend where he will most likely go down the steps for it as he was wanted on similar offences already..

I will provide a few more details i.e what he was sentenced etc after the case has gone through court

went to see a specialist today about my collarbone who said my break is sitting on the fence for surgery.. its up to me.. there are pros and cons of both.. either way wont be perfect and either I will have a lump or a bloody big scar on my chest for the rest of my life.. isnt hurting as much now which is good.. but we're both still feeling pretty sorry for ourselves.. tori is getting on alot better too and can kind of walk.. hobble about a bit now.. bless her! we look like a right couple of cripples!!

glad to hear the police are actually been helpful and the likes good to hear you's are both recovering aswel as can be i this situation and brilliant that you can claim for your car mate that's good new that cos of some tosser you wont lose your NCB

It's a joke when they get a driving ban as I'm sure the majority drive without insurance anyway!

  Stealth 438'd 182
He was breaching a 6 month suspended sentence anyway so I would imagine he will do most of that.. I don't know tbf ..!

You might want to take some legal advice, though I would be wary from the outset of the type of firms that offer no win no fee deals then tuck away in the small print the percentage of any pay out that they take as their fee. I would have thought your insurers would have a legal firm affiliated to them to deal with items like this.

You essentially have three different claims here, personal injury to you, the same for your girlfriend (pretty lady btw!) and then the claim for your vehicle.

From experience the last one can be sorted out quite quickly, as for the other two, you are in those for the long haul I'm afraid. It should all go in your medical notes anyway but keep track of appointments, their purpose and outcome. Don't be shy about keeping consultants and your GP about the pain and discomfort you are in, it all gets logged and looked at by those who will be paying (and trying to pay as little as possible) your compensation.

Don't accept a final settlement offer until you are pretty much mended again - I had an A4 hit the back of my last 172 back in 2005 at a set of lights, the guy fell asleep at the wheel, hit me at 30 & I shoved a Passat on to the junction.
I spent the night in A&E, two weeks in a fixed collar, three months off work and about a year in constant pain living on a hefty dose of Ibuprofen (600mg a time, which duly damaged my stomach lining), Dihydrocodine and Tramadol.
Even now I can't go on roller coasters or fun fair rides as my neck gets sore after five mins (8 years later).
The underwriters contacted me in the week after the incident offering £1400 compensation, my insurers legal guys eventually advised me to settle when they got up to £5000 about 18 months after the incident.

  Stealth 438'd 182
Thanks dude I already have that sorted
My car was a s**t payout even after refusing the first offer as they took my excess out till they can recover their costs from the other insurer..

As for the personal injury stuff I have a very good solicitor looking after us :)

I'm aware it could take a couple of years and documenting absolutely everything..!

Thanks for the advice n sorry to hear that you're still suffering :( sounds nasty!!!

Had an accident recently, car hit me at a junction. Insurance paid out for my car but took of my excess of £450 even tho it wasn't my fault. Called them about my excess to be told they have had no information from the third parties insurance about excepting liability, yet I have had a letter in my possession for 3 weeks says they have accepted liability. The lady was a little shocked on the phone, just told them to stop taking the piss and deal with it.
They drag it out longer than it needs to. Hope you get the money you deserve but end of the day some things are more important, like your health...

  Stealth 438'd 182
Oh god yeah I'm aware they will drag it out..! It's took them a month and a half almost to pay out for my car!

Still now I have that sorted and I've got a new car I'm not too fussy!

hopefully mine should be pretty easy to prove liability and they can't really argue its not something that anyone needs to have a ponder on because it was quite clearly all his fault haha the fact he is now in prison for it too should help!!

.. In theory..!

  Stealth 438'd 182
But yeah I agree I'm just so happy me and the misses are still here..! It's not all bout the money.. But it sure helps ;) haha!

  FF Clio 182
Yh lol exactly I just awaiting my compensation for my accident, that should take couple weeks and for my excess back. I asked why they charged me it, there response was we don't know who was at fault. I said to the bloke on the phone it wasn't my fault and in a smug attitude he said well how do you know that, I was like umm well because I was parked! He was like oh umm ok! :)

yeah..one of the scariest moments of my life to date was seeing her slumped over.. air bag smoke in the air.. broken glass everywhere and blood coming from her nose and mouth... genuinely thought she was dead.. certainly put things in perspective alright.. I've known her for about 7 years and we've always been close friends but in the last month prior to the crash we started seeing each other.. after the crash in hospital asking a girl out on a spinal board was certainly a new experience but she thought it was romantic.. certainly made her smile anyway.. well at least I think it was that.. could of been the morphine?!!

anyways looking alot better now:

cheers mate, appreciate this but unfortunately I have a solicitor already on the case now, although she's struggling getting a letter of claim out apparently as shes finding it difficult getting the details of the other driver from the police which I find hard to believe.. all she has to do is request the accident report book surely!

meh! hopefully I will be getting an interim payment when she can start the process as its been hard being off work my overdraft has taken a pounding!

thanks mate, we've been doing well.. my collarbone didnt need surgery.. my bones are still sitting on top of one another but they've kind of fused and started to grow new bone inbetween.. apparently this should be fine..! back and neck still hurt from time to time too but its all seeming to be heading in the right direction

I wouldnt be too fussy about the cage.. but the bucket seats and harnesses definitely!!!

This is the new car.. for now..

I really miss the clio.. if somone offered me a swap for a 182 with ITBS/Cams I think I'd find it hard to say no!!!!

That being said this thing is lovely.. no rattles.. comfy.. still quick.. build quality is unbelivable and its so smooooooooth!!

feel I should update this for anyone interested:

the loser got 2.5 years in prison and further disqualified for 3 years for a whole host of offences -

posses a controlled drug of class B - Cannabis
Drive a motor vehicle dangerously
use a motor vehicle without third party insurance
drive whilst disqualified
fail to stop for police
aggravated vehicle taking (initial taker) and injury caused by accident.

I am currently trying to get the footage from the police vehicle now that criminal proceedings have come to a close so if I do manage to get it and can do with it as I please then I will try and upload it!

apparently according to the officers you can see my back wheels come off the ground and the car kind of pivots round on the nose.. few seconds after you see me get out and go to run after the guy who hit us.. (not my finest moment but adrenaline was pumping).. then the pain set in and i kind of stop and stumble about a bit lol!

How do you feel on what he got? Obviously yourself having the worst outcome to his wrong doings! As an outsider its definitely a bit of good news!

If you get the video, would be interesting! I take it you haven't seen it?

Good news that, keep us updated on how the claim comes. It seems mental that when something like this happens it's hard for you not to lose out!

For the list of offences, that sentence is pretty short though. Mental.

aye, il let you know as things happen but I imagine its going to be a long protracted process for the claim side of things and I shouldnt lose out in the long run but for now I am definitely worse off! Its cost me a fortune so far and alot of recovery time, not to mention completely destroying my pride and joy!

tbh I'm relatively happy with that sentence even though I believe there was actually more offences put to him than that in court (I think he was wanted for something else too).. it is a long time to spend under lock and key at her majestys pleasure! certainly not somewhere I would want to be..! I think people always say 'thats short' but I think in reality it must be really really boring inside and time must stand still some days.. you cant exactly enjoy a day down the local park or go on holiday haha!

I havent seen the footage no it was just described to me by the traffic officers that were surprised to be actually having somone to take a statement from after that!!!!

It's started off from a barn find.. its been parked in a barn next to a tractor for a few years hardly moving at all.. the battery was about to explode when i got it.. the paint was awful and there was a population of spiders living in it

its a 94 3.0 NA so I got it pretty cheap but it has good milage and no rust.. its a second car for me so I can afford to work on it and have it off the road for periods of time.
