Wow

This is the devils car alright!! Madness to think of the constant niggles with it!
Fast running out of patience mate! LOL!

Please tell me that's only coolant.

Just spotted the rag on the header. At least it's not a massive problem.

Dude, sorry to see that :(

As Rhys said, is it coolant?

Oh no............??
Sorry - yes, I did mean to post up that is was, thankfully, coolant. Prior to setting off it had been topped up with oil and coolant and by the time I'd pulled up it had boiled most of it off. Luckily I always carry fluids around in the boot these days.

Thanks mate. I've had some incredibly supportive people getting in touch offering help and loans of their cars. What an utterly wonderful bunch of peeps I have been lucky enough to meet! :)

Obviously it could have been a lot worse but I'm just so fed up and seem to be overreacting to everything regarding the car right now! It just won't give me a break and feel like I need to vent more than the coolant header tank did earlier! :( I can't put into words just how thoroughly fed up I am with it at the moment. I've even managed to scratch the rear bumper after reversing into my parents fence at a family funeral a couple of days ago :( But I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to not give a toss.

Mind you, it was quite funny. My good lady and I just abandoning the car and jumping out as all of a sudden the front end of the car was engulfed in white! We couldn't be sure if it was steam or smoke and thought it best to get the hell out of the car foremost. It made the traffic jam we were stuck in even worse but hey-ho, s**t happens.

The list of things to fix gets longer and time to enjoy the car this year before the winter draws in gets shorter. In all truth it looks like I won't be enjoying it until next year now (if I don't crush/burn it before then).

Sorry for the vent. Just totally fed up.

Andy, if you want your calipers re built then send them to me.

Ill fit a Big Red seal kit and send them back, just pay for the parts and ill do it for free mate.

That way you will have a pair of rebuilt calipers for not alot of money.

Offer is there mate. x

Bloody hell dude, you're not having much luck with it at present. :(

Now that is a seriously tempting offer mate :) I'm not happy about you doing it for free though. Despite paying for the parts it is still your time and know-how so would be happier to send you a few beer tokens at least.

Exactly mate. I couldn't agree more.

Surely it shouldn't be running that hot? Or is there a problem with it?
No mate - it's normal and there's no problem. It's surprising how much heat a high-compression NA build generates. Especially stuck in a traffic jam and in unseasonally high temperatures of 25 degrees in south Wales! It just needs a better radiator.

Cheers Tom. I won't lie - my patience is running very thin at the moment! And yes, Scott's a star :)

Cant believe your still having trouble, do you run a none standard radiator?
It's a VW Polo radiator fella. The standard item doesn't fit with the setup I've got hence the smaller Polo rad. It's fine for pure track day cars but not for everyday use where there's a good chance of being stuck in standing traffic. To be honest, it's not usually a problem as traffic isn't something I worry about around my place. I just got caught out in a freak traffic jam today and couldn't get out of it.

Thanks for the offer mate - but I think I've got the bearings covered. If not I'll give you a shout. Truly grateful for the offer kind sir :)

Give u a nice ph1 for it  put you out your misery...
Don't tempt me young man. LOL! However, I'm going to push on and get this damn thing fixed if it kills me. Which it probably will. Remember, "T" is for Trophy.

(p.s. Thanks for offer of help and car loans... I am genuinely grateful).

park it up, take a break and come back to it mate! no point in getting stressed with it. :)

i've learnt my lesson with my dci over the past year or so... many a times ive felt like smashing it into a million pieces.

what radiator you running now?

I was only joking mate  Just being cheeky... lol

In all seriousness, it's something I am looking to do over winter and may call on your expertise if the offer stands. Of course, i would pay you for your time and skills, cheers Scott :)

Cheers Tom. I won't lie - my patience is running very thin at the moment! And yes, Scott's a star :)

Stick at it mate. It will be worth the stress when it's working and your hooning around the Welsh roads once again ;)

It seems you have no shortage of people willing to help you out, but I will just echo those comments and if there is anything I can do, just let me know.

Andy i want to help mate.

Get your calipers off and get them sent to me, ill take them to work, strip, clean them and re-build them. I don't want any money mate, im a great believer if you do good things to others then good things come to you.

I did mine about 3 years ago with the Big Red kit and i also replaced the caliper pistons, been fine.

But I've had an 18 month break from it pretty much...! ;) Of course, I hear you and understand what you are saying but I just want to get it fixed. And, as you've seen, the response from people and the offers of help has been incredibly kind; hence I'm considering taking up some of those offers. I've pretty much resigned myself to there being no more trackdays or 'spirited' drives in it this year and will probably just take the time to get everything 100% on it. At least I know the engine is sound. Although I was a bit worried earlier when it overheated. Thankfully the head gasket, etc. seems fine :)

I will - I've got too much invested in this car really; tears more than anything! Thank you for your offer of assistance, too. Top man! :)

I don't doubt your work at all mate - I've seen your Clio ;) Give me a day or two to get things sorted and I'll arrange to get the calipers over to you. We WILL discuss payment/cost though; even if it means I owe you a favour down the line. :)

I feel your pain Andy.
More so than most I fear Tony :( Any news or progress regarding the Burpspeedmobile?

Sounds like cuddles are needed all round.

I like cuddles.
Cuddles are good. Big manly ones always go down well. :)

Sounds like a trap....

Andy, has @Luke been near this at all....?
I'm willing to take the risk this time! :)

As far as I'm aware, Luke hasn't been anywhere near it... or has he? Hmm.

Valve marks on pistons, not a good sign I believe!
I'm no mechanigineer but I would agree with you. :( Sorry to hear that and of the ongoing dramas. I'm missing your race updates, pics and vids to be honest. I know that sounds selfish but c'mon, sort it out :p (Good luck!)

Brilliant thread this, just seeing the amount of people willing to help is outstanding.
Agreed mate - there are some top people out there and I can't speak highly enough of them :)

I was going to post in here saying that there was a slightly bigger VW rad for sale in the forsale section the other day but you have already ordered a new one!

Good luck getting it up and running again buddy!

I can come and give you a hand this weekend if you like.

Got to do 500 miles to run my engine in so visiting you would help me knock a couple of hundred off :)

Or... Car Tuning - sometimes you wish you had gone to the correct specialist in the first place. LOL! :D

Well mate, I've got no plans this weekend (as far as I'm aware) and you're certainly more than welcome to head over. I can't guarantee having any parts or what have you arrive in time for the weekend but we could always strip down the sticky caliper, check the bearings or whatever! LOL! Just remember, I'm not particularly good with a spanner. I've only just figured out how a screwdriver works. :)
