I'm surprised you could remember what the original reg was after all that time?.
What's the car worth as a standard trophy do you think?
I couldn't remember... thankfully the DVLA has these record things that keep tabs on stuff like that! :) :p

It's hard to say what its worth will be as standard. It won't be a mint low-miler but it will be a perfectly good Trophy complete with its original Recaros, Sachs dampers, etc. I would like to think somewhere in the region of 5-7k but I will evaluate once it is all together and running again. :)

May 2019 (continued) - A Brief Reunion

Another update? Yeah - you're really being spoilt at the moment... :p

Yesterday I was passing by Mick's workshop hence decided to drop off a few bits that will be used to put the car back to standard. Any excuse for a natter and a brew. After half an hour of whinging and putting the world to rights (we are both old men after all!) thoughts turned to the car and what was needed to get her back up and running, ready for the next owner. I also took the opportunity to grab a few photos.

20190517_update01.jpg

There it sat with the gold engine bling and it's heart sat on the floor beside it! The car had so much potential... but also required far more investment to make it happen. And, of course, such a high-boost build was always going to need a significant ongoing spend and maintenance schedule to keep it running. I'm not going into the figures but it was getting silly; it had gone past ridiculous some time ago.

20190517_update02.jpg

As mad as it sounds, it was actually good to see the car again. I've seen it only a handful of times in the last 5 years so it was good to be reacquainted and to acknowledge that it was time to get it sorted and for someone else to enjoy. As you can see in the pic above, there is a rather nice spec engine that hasn't even been run yet and an equally good rebuilt gearbox with a new LSD in it.

20190517_update05.jpg

As gutting as it is I think the engine will be pulled apart and the components sold. It is unlikely I'll find a buyer for it as a whole. The components within are brand new and should appeal to someone! Likewise, the gearbox will hopefully appeal to a few people too.

20190517_update06.jpg

The bottom end would be ideal for a low- or high-boost setup but the turbo is too big for a low-blow. As you can see, my setup was ready to go with 4x EGT sensors (which were to be fed to my ECU and used to monitor the running of the engine, and shut it down if necessary!)

20190517_update07.jpg

Nice and shiny.... and unused. :(

20190517_update08.jpg

Er... it's a gearbox. I don't have anything else to add here. :p

TTV pulleys, billet flywheel, fuel system - the parts list goes on. I just need to try and recoup some of the costs / losses and look for a fair price on the Trophy when it is running and MOT'd. No doubt about it, it will still be a sad day when I do say that final farewell. It's strange how you get attached to things. Even so, I already feel a s**t load better in myself and it has also pleased Mick and my missus. FLOL! And quite a few others no doubt.

Many thanks to Mick (Diamond Motors) for his ongoing help and support and to Marc, Sam, Graham, Tim and Alex for help with sourcing parts so far. I think the big-player parts are pretty much accounted for now.

Finally, I had a viewing and test drive of a potential new car today and will hopefully post more on that very soon. Right now I'm off to relax. It's been a long day and will be an even longer few days! Both sad and exciting times together.

Cheers!

Such a shame you can't enjoy it as a standard trophy after so long owning it, but I do get it.

Almost feels part of the Cs furniture ?
I do think I could enjoy it again as standard mate, given a bit of time and a few drives out along my favourite roads. Alas, I've made a decision and I want to move on regardless. I'm confident someone will take it and have a real nice hot-hatch to enjoy for many years. I just want it to go to a good home and an enthusiast who gets what these cars are about. :)

Inevitably the time comes when it is time to throw out the old and bring in the new. Or words to that effect. ?

Gutted Andy, but glad to hear you're in a happier place about it all. I still remember you taking us all out in it at Llandow. Was probably a good 2 hours before you got to sit back down in the pub! :ROFLMAO:

Re: New car. Rover SD1?
Hahahaha, yes! I got more miles in that evening than I did on the trackday the following day! :) FLOL! Happy times mate. Lovely cookies, too.

Rover SD1... who told you?! :)

I reckon he'll struggle to let it go. Shakedown run and he'll be hooked all over again. Let's face it, people have come back to Clio ownership twice in the time since @SharkyUK last drove le b*****d rouge!
Some people more than twice mate! LOL!

It is over with Trophy #165 - decision made. And I won't be going back (honest!) Sure, I might enjoy a final drive once she's running and MOT'd, but that will be the final hurrah and goodbye for us. Onwards and upwards. :)

This is a real end to an era on this.
When it was running it was lovely and really sums up my time on CS as one of the most memorable cars for me.

But i am glad you have made a choice and picked a new car :)

Hopefully someone enjoys the Trophy as much as you did previously and i reckon you'll be back in it soon. You will have the engine in and then it will bring it all back, then you will keep it.

Always happens.

:) Mate - thank you for the reply and kind words. I am still saddened that it never reached the intended goal but it has been one heck of a journey. Just looking back over this thread... wow, I can't express just how appreciative I am of all the replies, help and support I've had along the way. It is genuinely touching (no, not in that way!) Thanks for following and - yes - onwards to the replacement. She's a bit special, too, and I will post up in an hour or two when I've had my late dinner!!!

I can definitively state that I won't be keeping Trophy #165 and that she will be finding a new home. :) It is a solid car and will be enjoyed by the new owner (whomever that may be). Many thanks - wishing you all the best.

I was so sad about this coming to an end.

Until I saw the replacement.......
?
Hahahaha! Yup, I'm in love with it, too. Update incoming later (hopefully) or very soon. ;)

May 2019 (continued) - The Replacement

I'm sure I've said it a million times before... but it really is strange how things can work out sometimes.

I'll start by saying that Trophy #165 will be sorely missed. It will always have a little bit of my heart because, contrary to how the majority of this thread may have read, it really was a cherished and loved car. When it was in good health it was a sublime drive on the roads I enjoy. It was pretty damn good on track, too. I will miss the playfulness, the quirks and the 'character' of the car. But I won't miss the heartache and the wallet-emptying journey I've been treading for the last few years. Thankfully it is the good memories that live on stronger and those are the ones I will absolutely remember the most. Related to that are the friendships and expanded social circle I've enjoyed through owning this car - and will continue to enjoy for many more years to come. I've met some incredibly kind and generous folks during my time here and I very much plan on hanging around. Heck, I may even return to Clio ownership a little further down the line.

I will continue to post updates on this thread until Le Clio B**tard Rouge is back to standard and running again. :)

However - if you'll please allow me to be so forward - I would like to introduce you to the Trophy's replacement. Right now I'm still a little high on excitement and adrenaline as I never thought I'd get the opportunity to own one of my dream cars. I've not eaten or slept properly since I had the viewing and test drive last Saturday. All I will say is thank goodness I put the holding deposit down to secure first dibs on the car as it has had a LOT of interest, and for good reason. Here we go...

20190518_update04.jpg

It's a Porsche Cayman GT4. And - importantly for me - it was the absolutely right colour and spec I was looking for. It's a 2016 model, in MINT condition and only 1699 miles on the clock. I still can't find the words to describe it; it is epic. A whole different level.

20190518_update11.jpg

I took the near-on 300 mile journey to (as stated already) view and test drive it last Saturday. It was just sat there in the showroom waiting. Wow. Whist I was lost in the moment and taking it all in (especially the sound of that 3.8l engine) the missus was in the door and into the 918 bucket seats.

20190518_update02.jpg

20190518_update03.jpg

The car has various options and upgrades in addition to the bucket seats. Upgraded audio / media system, satnav, carbon fibre pack and various others that I can't remember due to excitement.

20190518_update06.jpg

Obviously, on the test drive, I couldn't drive like a madman. It didn't help that the entire area around the Porsche Centre was awash with roadworks, contraflows and speed restrictions. Even so... within 200 yards, I knew it was special. I won't bore you with the details but, quite simply, it was stupendous. It was a little strange with folks moving out of the way to allow me by, something I've not experienced before. :p I don't know how I managed to keep it cool as I was giggling like a little girl inside. The responsiveness of that throttle, the sound, the sheer agility and balance of the chassis - and all at relatively low speeds. Epic.

20190518_update08.jpg

My missus absolutely loves it, too. Everything about it. Thank goodness I have a petrolhead for a better half, eh? The look on HER face when it fired up into life and when she was sat inside. Perfect.

20190518_update10.jpg

Right now I am still struggling to find the words. Porsche have been amazingly accommodating in both their services and arranging to get the car delivered direct to my doorstep for this Saturday. I can't wait; it really can't come soon enough.

I'm sure there will be many more photos and stories to tell with this superb machine. But that's for another thread ;) This thread is about Trophy #165 after all... :)

@Sir_Dave - awesome buddy. Thank you. Your help was key and invaluable.

My very best wishes,
Andy

Well that's f**king awesome :love: oh and can I have your lsd gearbox for my cup
Thank you mate :) As for the gearbox... I may have a buyer lined up already! We spoke briefly earlier about it but didn't get chance to finish the conversation. If it doesn't work out then I'll get back to you straight away fella.

Wow, what a replacement! The Wales weekender will be a bit different in that!

Never met you but really pleased to finally see something positive come out of all this.

Incredible! So chuffed that you’ve come out the other end with a positive!

I think you should get some trophy side skirt stickers for the porka ?

Very sad to hear you've given up with the Trophy but wow what a replacement! I'd have chopped it in myself if that was on the cards!

One of my favourite drivers cars at the moment. Very good choice.

Welcome to Porsche ownership. You simply cannot beat them for driving pleasures!!

All i can say its that its been a pleasure.

The day i collected my first Porsche, in Guards/Trophy Red naturally, was one of the best days of my life.

So to be a part in making that happen for you, after all the issues with #165, genuinely makes me so happy ? ... ? ? ? ? ?
