I've bought several sets of Borg and Beck discs recently and have been impressed with the quality.
One set has been on track, no warp etc, nicely painted/coated too.

Water pumps and thermostat housings are common on 7.5 gti presume all cars use same parts so thats one to be aware of.

Mk7.5 GTi is probably the best out of the Golfs atm.
Main thing is leaking thermostat and weak clutch if you get a manual, although mine didn't have issues with the clutch or any leakage. The mk8's have some infotainment issues from what I've seen online.
Also with a golf, the bottom of the rear arches by sill can start rusting.

I believe so yes. It’s even an issue with the Mk8 too afaik.

Can i ask what made you pick a Cupra? unless your not the right Matt who sold his a little while ago?..lol, i seem to be leaning towards one over a Golf.

Yep ‘‘twas me. I picked the Cupra because it was something a bit less desirable on the driveway than a Golf R which I was also looking at.
You seem to get more for your money with a Cupra than the equivalent Golf too (like an extra 50bhp+ ) but GTi residuals seem strong still.

They pretty much specced out the Cupra as standard but on the Cupra 2020+ lux pack it also had the desirable bucket seats.
I wouldn’t say povvo, but it wasn’t exactly luxurious, they could have used better materials Tbf.

Newest find of bodgery on the £400 A3... Noticed the brake pads were very low when I put new tyres on, I didn't twig the main issue though...
OSF. As it should be. Typical VAG caliper with a 282mm disc.
NSF. Off an early A3/Fabia with a smaller (262mm?) disc...

Folks, please, can the collective brain trust help me, as the issue below is making me go insane...
Hit a pothole in the Passat (B8 2016, 80k miles), a few weeks later the MOT failed on a leaking front driver's shock.
Indi quoted £300 per shock for Monroe DCC. I found them on AutoDoc for £115, so I bought and supplied direct. Fitted, no issues reported, car returned.
The car has since had an enormously increased road noise from the front and a slight looseness to the steering. Particularly notable on rough surfaces. If you drive on the infamous M25 concrete, it's bordering on being so loud, it's unusable.
Returned to the indi, no faults found with fitment or fitting. Also checked by another indi in the NW during a routine service and no faults found. First indi suggested lower ball joints could do with replacing, so I paid for them to be sorted. Noise is still apparent.
We've now fitted OEM VW shocks at enormous cost. The front feels better through the steering wheel, but the road noise hasn't subsided.
A few considerations - it's not had the tracking done. Nor have I fitted new springs or top mounts. But really unsure as to what the hell it could be that transmits so much more road noise from what was reported to be a simple on off of the DCC shocks...
Any thoughts on where to look next, gratefully received.

Trying to decide if I should swap my GTI for a VRS Estate or not...
My mate is getting rid of his Dec 23 Octavia VRS, WBAC have offered him £21k and he said I can have it for the same price. It's petrol with DSG, I have no idea on spec of them, it has heated seats I know that.
Seems a good buy, will only cost me a few k to swap to a car nearly 5 years newer, and one better for me with the bikes but I still just don't think I like it as much as the Golf.
Anyone know much about them? Or have a link to a spec from that era so I can see what it does and doesn't have?
One downside is it's only have one service, on some variable thing and he just took it in when it popped up, but I guess they mostly are these days.
I think the biggest thing putting me off is selling the Golf

My brother had a 20ish plate vrs, dsg. Had no end of problems with it so got rid.

Is it just the Mk8 golf, that was problematic wasn't it, with the 8.5 being much improved.
Maybe best to avoid, there is nothing wrong with my golf, it's just getting on a bit and I've had it ages.

He had an issue with his brakes and once that was sorted, the mechatronic unit shat itself. Seemed a bit of a friday afternoon car!
