Track phase 182

Wooooo - the ph1 is back on the road!
and my god it's noisy haha!

Got the servo fitted and brakes bled today, and then had a little test drive.

also had time to install my polycarb front windows!

763a5107320eb36e4f4b3a316acab97e.jpg

Few bits of tidying up here and there...

e00339a584b299072f36de3d34911a2a.jpg

So yeah to conclude - the steering wheel is not straight at alll but it seems to track straight... kinda pointing the finger at me not putting my QR steering wheel on properly or something to do with me not connecting the upper and lower dci column on straight...

Also the brakw pedal is quite spongy and more annoyingly the brake bias has diverted itself to a 50/50 split so when I brake hard the rear locks up! I would of thought the cup compensator valve sorted that out...

anybody got any input on those problems?

thanksss

Can I ask how have you fitted your front windows? Have you just glued them into the seal?

So drove the ph1 up to my girlfriends flat in London yesterday, and it drove faultlessly apart from fuckking loud haha

The problem with the Rear brakes are still apparent and I've pretty much tried everything apart from stripping down the callipers. Its really frustrating, as it's quite a simple system, but I can't identify the problem.

The problem with the steering wheel not pointing straight as down the the upper and lower column being misaligned, still not perfect but better than it was.

Some bigger updates on the interior - ive choose to put the lower dash in even though I cut it.. bit of stitching up, drift style yo.

13b90cf9642063c1a749d970e5d6bf46.jpg

To continue with using the lower dash I still wanted a big flat surface to mount switches on, so I cut abit of a flower basin thing, and put that on, see below.

9495993d42330dc0f3c8d4801efded20.jpg

This morning was spend putting on the passenger side door card, and fitting the OBD onto the dash. Haven't got a pic of the door card, but you know the message measure twice cut once. yeah well that didn't happen... I gutted the inside of the door a bit to much, so it doesn't really fit... hehe oh well excuse for FG doors then ey

Accidently gone and got myself some 4 pot brembos... After all this time saying they wernt needed, got them for a very good price with repairs need to the bleed nipple thread, which won't be too hard.

bbd6393bf59cbba6040b1b456f093c79.jpg

So just need to source some brackets, and then have a play getting them under oz f1s...

Few small jobs done today after I finished work
Managed to remove this join that's been annoying me for the pass couple of weeks.

ad98c23feddb914d4a3eff7b0d17001e.jpg

Tidied up the rear loom a little bit more

1dfc37d660fa23a98b611f09df97baf2.jpg

finished it off by relocating it through the panels, with the loom all wrapped up noicee.

Spot that Inlet manifold bolt I dropped... made a noise but didn't hit the ground *s**t* working above gravel worries me.
7b97f44df03e499254a973e1d91f466b.jpg

So still not got to the bottom of my increased rear braking effort - gonna give it a day, and if it's not sorted by the end of the day it's getting ripped out and new lines with bias valve will be made.

I also want to install a hydro handbrake, but reading up on MOT rulings stating you must keep a mechanical way of braking the wheels, there's really not much point of having two in there...

hey ho, FIA battery cut off should be here tomorrow

and still need to sort the alignment of the column [emoji30]

Few little updates again (Sorry common boring start to my updates)

Removed the heater box ready for the 1.2 heater without air con.

Chopped up the standard ac unit to see if I could bodge it to fit, but there was no easy way, and the 1.2 box is pretty cheap

Started fitting the battery master switch and pull cord.

87729217ea309c97ec58bd2edadf53a0.jpg

used the alarm wiring grommet/silicone mess...

And this was the outcome.

Not really happy with the way there so much uncovered wire that could quite easily be pulled while snatching a gear (maybe)
But im happy overall. ...

Now just the fun wiring part, I'm a bit unsure weather I'm gonna follow the standard feeding the live cables through it with the resistor or run it on the earth cable then not have to worry about the resistor, or fire hazards...

or am I chatting s**t.

cheers laaa

Having a bit of a mare choosing picture, but yep this is the finished product.

e218180574a97f02e5edd317a648911c.jpg

Pull cord didn't come with a bracket to connect it to the dash, so chopped up the frame that holds those 6 cd changers, always kept a lot of bits and spares as there's always a chance I will use them again.

Well on this update, I hang my head in shame. I really do. Shame and most of all embarrassment.

I don't know why I'm telling the Internet this, but I feel like you guys should know my absolute failure.

So I got home from work excited seeing a parcel there waiting for me

3b11bff1e1f91b1532761f15f9c0de39.jpg

Woo lightweight battery, so time being the limited factor I rushed on ready to fit it, and use my new rivnut tool.

I decided of a "good" place to fit it was the upright section of the rear bench behind the passenger seat.

Get drill bits ready and then put a small pilot hole in, get the bigger drill bit while putting pressure on the drill it goes through the metal! the pressure was continued to be put on the drill and it goes through a second bit of material...

So does anyone know what's underneath the rear bench upright bit, yep the f**king FUEL TANK.

34475df380544fdbf1014dde8150a033.jpg

So yep, lesson learnt stop being to impatient and think it through before doing it... hey ho, picking a fuel tank up Sunday along with a set of direzzas.

On another note, the set of oz wheels I posted up there, they're currently for sale as I need different wheels in order to fit the brakes, did a bit of research and to get oz f1s over 197 brembos needs atleast 30 mm spacers.

You could get away with 20mm spacers I think and a bit more off the callipers as I tried a F1 for clearance when @Phase1sr was going to fit some Brembos on his Ph1.

They're my old brakes although there were no issues with the nipples when I had them.

Yep he did say he bought them off you, and yep also to confirm that the thread striped when he tried to remove it.

thats interesting! Do you know how much these callipers have been machined by? (if you had them machined that is)

Have a look through my progress thread. You need to take it off the corners like in my photos. You don't need to machine the mating faces at all.

Can't find it bud, I'm on tapatalk so usually a mission - don't suppose you've got a cage for sale? did see you advertised one with no replies?! I'm guessing it is

Firstly I'm surprised I didn't get a lot of people calling me a t**t from the previous update... either you guys expect it from or you cba to reply...

Some big updates to come, and I mean big, but very sad.

I have received a few of my orders this week:
-Copper piping + unions
-Handheld brake pipe flaring tool
-Hydro handbrake conversion (utilises the current handbrake which is connected to a master cylinder.

It's a bit of a statement putting one in a clio, but my handbrake was f**king useless before hand, and when is it ever a bad thing to have handbrake turns on tap? and as I'm plumbing in my own brake lines right pass the handbrake it would be rude not too...

e475311cf7bba1c7944e3b26cc92935b.jpg

Onto the sad news - Reading through @ph1toms project thread got me thinking, that I should probably check what condition my sill are like, how better to show you than a picture:

yep, fooked.

4fe1df09b1a8ed8ceb48a37af17c4b63.jpg

yep and the offside too.

gutted, but every cloud has its silver lining and all that.

I don't want to post what's in the pipeline as it's not fully planned yet or bought.

But it's a black with lots of scaffolding In the back, and weighs about the same as a few bags of sugar.

Another clio doe

Thought I'd start this post with some p**n.
Got this ready to go on the new shell, while I had a modified scenic shifter before, I just always looked at getting a PMS one so bit the bullet.
c94cf24db88873a02871799beda9e411.jpg

Can't wait to get this fitted. Plans are moving forward with the new shell - just need to confirm a finalised price from @pingpong then should be all good to go.

The ph1 has had its engine removed tonight. Got back from work at 5 had the engine packed away in the garage by 730 - not sure why I feel it's necessary to gloat, but it's a new PB for me so feeling chuffed.

Picked up a set of TD 1.2s also, while failing to take a picture of the actual wheels (silver) I took a photo of the 888s that were on there, the previous owner mentioned there were still a track day in them.......... [emoji55]

bc720d97a7a06d27beff895174a89492.jpg

Got a set of direzzas to go on the TDs also. really can't wait to get these on track.

Got bored waiting for gearbox oil to drain... (it was already cracked)

0e55fa003dcea45053ca6b3b378a11d1.jpg

So, yeah unfortunately the updates will be stripping the ph1 again but this time to a bare shell, and then it's off the the scrapy for it. I'm a little bit annoyed that I didn't check the obvious before I put all the effort in prepping it and building it back up.

But hey, it happens - onto better things as they say.

  172 Ph1
Such a shame you didn't notice that the shell was rotten prior .

Your not messing about are you , new shell and engine out already , fair play you done well .

Yep the shell isn't bought as of yet, just hoping he doesn't turn around and say its not for sale! haha :(
Yeahh like to get things done! amazing how much easer it is to remove the engine without any of the pas pipes in the way etc

  330i. E30 Touring.
Shame about the shell mate

Pingpong's shell is a good one, for sure. Definitely for sale too!

Yeah it certainly is although it was fun to do really, apart form the sound deadening...

Aye its a fantastic shell ticks all the boxes for me really, apart from having to get the steering column welded. but thats minor. So just need to confirm a price and a delivery time for it really :)

Well went down to Toms unit last night to view the 182 shell.. and what can I say, it's absolutely mint!
Grabed a few photos as I was walking around, attention to detail is amazing, the interior was a bit dusty but the spray job was really good.

08526eb47526b3f426fa41c2afd9ed31.jpg

The rear loom is all custom with a junction box at the back splitting it off into brake lights etc etc

665b609c03e96b9e02260893b19965ed.jpg

As I'm not running a custom loom on the grot interior I'm just gonna a have to work out what does what and join the originall loom with Toms loom

688445c1e8d2f03c6de458f6d7339eaa.jpg

So I proceeded to talk numbers and I bought it, I couldn't if really said no as the ph1 was rusting away annnd I had already got started on stripping it

73d12447091b0cefce2ae79eefc8c275.jpg

This was definitely a first for me, the unit was awesome so much space, and let's day a good use of tools...

b241450663db451a9c0f165738bf8122.jpg

So the plans are to front end swap the 182 to my ph1 front end - wings, bonnet and bumper.

This saves me having to find a 182 engine loom, headlight loom, headlights and swap over the upper inlet so all the plugs are the same.

I've heard it not a simple bolt on, and the crash bar needs a bit of modifying so we will see how that goes.

Safe to say I'm excited.

That's the ph1 all stripped and ready to get collected. (if anyone wants anything off the car in this picture just holla)

Fuel tank was an utter basterd to get out due to a captive nut no longer staying captive (story of my life with this ph1) Still need to remove the fuel pump but the big plastic screw thing is on f**king tight.

Hey ho, 182 shell is getting delivered Sunday. canne wait.

Helllloooooooow

Welll the 182 is on the drive, getting it off was a lot harder than getting it on, had to lift the shell between the 4 of us haha

8c07a1f55b71fd060e951ec01dc7a47b.jpg

So alot of faffing jobs were done today, sorted out the the dash switch board.

4f85065b064898f31d819ec311018946.jpg

Also the top dash, previously it had a dip where the air bag, but had to cut it out due to the roll cage, but saying that I may have mounted the fuses in the wrong place so they might catch on the roll cage also... s**t.

59466b26143c33d12d788a34cec31662.jpg

Planning on plumbing in a hydro handbrake while still remaining the ratcheting system for MOTs - so I drilled through the push button mechanism when fully compressed then put a split pin through to stop the ratchet activating - for those sick skids and that!

33d78bb9913e1faac545773ad69f327f.jpg

Day off tomorrow so hopefully can get abit more done, but im basically just relying on parts to be delivered for every big job, like gearbox mounts, and brake unions for making my own lines...

@Mash.
I think I have asked before could you get a picture of how you have filtered your front lily Windows?
Have you just bonded them in or have you drilled them at the bottom?

  Clio 172 & BMW 335D
weirdly I thought of you asking that question earlier, so I took a pic.

outside seal covers the bolts.
I see so that acts as a spacer....? Have you just used a nut and bolt or what?
Are you replacing the inside seal or just leaving the outside one on?
Sorry for the questions

yep you can buy plastic spacers on ebay for whatever length. It looks like a thin nut and bolt yep.

yep leave outside seal in as it waterproofs it, and nope inner seal will stay off no need for it.

Brilliant I actually have some little spacers at home I will make them a tight fit and put a screw into them to hold them tight.
Then just seal the in around the top!
